I don't see why WAR should die. There are much worse MMOs around and no-one is going to shut down their servers.
However I strongly believe that p2p is a wrong business model for PvP (or RvR) games. It's just not viable because customers don't understand what they're paying for. In PvE games people expect a content patch every few months. But PvP stays more or less the same. And many of those who could stay, leave. Just because they have to pay monthly fees.
Aion (US/EU) will probably share the same fate. In fact it's already losing players (down from 4th to 6th place on Xfire) and it's been less than 2 months since release.
WAR should go f2p. GW is a good example of how a company can make money on a f2p PvP-based game. Sell content, not game time.
MMORPG genre is dead. Long live MMOCS (Massively Multiplayer Online Cash Shop).
You can now play for free in T1 with the Endless Trial -> www.warhammeronline.com/trial/ (US) I think that's as close you get to free, I guarantee addiction to all who like pvp though so be wary EU endless trial should start soon as well.
Yeah, I just played the trial and I have to say that I am woefully disappointed in a game whose tabletop equivalent is far superior (even though I just loved painting the models really). It is far worse than WOW, which I have begun to loathe in many different ways, and I have to say that even the F2P game RoM is better than in many ways. Incredibly disappointed!

Table top games will always be superior as there is human interaction, this is just thematically Warhammer not based on the same rule set.

RoM is nice game if you don't like pvp.
This is true on both counts. You know I played RoM for about 2 months and never did get any PvP action at all. Is there any in that game at all...lol?

They have pvp scenarios or something so they can say that "we do pvp" but it's not balanced and has no meaning in the game as the focus of the game is pve.
Very few pvp games out there when you think about it and still a lot of people would like to have one that is good and proper, WAR was about to turn the boat around when they were hit with layoffs, let's hope they can keep up the momentum and get more subs.
I'll keep subbing until SWTOR and hope that my few $$$'s mean that SWTOR doesn't have pve focus.
Nothing. I don't care because I don't play the game. I checked out the trial but it didn't interest me enough to stay. There are those who enjoy the game, more power to them.
I know what it's like to lose a game so I don't wish that sort of fate on anyone, regardless of the game. I find it pitiful to wish ill will towards someone simply because they like a game.

ROm has separate PVE and PVP servers.I would not reccomend PVP at all, because it is the most aggressive RMT game i have ever seen. There is not one aspect of the game that is not targeted by the item mall..not one.
IMO when a developer tries to rape the player base that "is" willing to support them, they deserve to have their game die .It used to be where the community accepted non game breaking ideas to be targeted by the RMT,but ROM goes far over the boundaries by literally selling you the entire game piece by piece at a cost that will blow the doors off any P2P model.
I would be wary of wishing WAR turns F2P the end result would be brutal ,it would become a PVP game of rich vs the poor and you know who wins that game.
