I see this alot in college and mostly it's because a) it's for a frat thing or b) the person is just a nerd.
I take it you're not in a frat right?
Ok then, you probably just look like a retard. Easy cure for fashion is just to buy w/e they have at the Buckle. Expensive though, I just bought an Affliction Shirt and Hat today online and it was $106. :-/ The most I've spent on a T-Shirt at the Buckle was like $100.
I do alot of shopping at Rue21 too. If you're not in a ghetto area, then they have alot of nice cheap clothes. I buy pretty much all my pants there, Carbon ftw.
well, so far i have seen good results in the comments i get from wearing it. So, i mean, thanks?
Just remember to not wear socks with your wingtips.

Personally I think it's a little funny when I see someone wearing dress clothes to school on a casual day, i mean if thats what you want to do thats fine, but it is a little out of place. Unless maybe you go to a college where this sort of fashion is normal/frequent?
Personally I just go plain tshirt/jeans/hoodie to school, very casual look and easy to just throw on in the morning.
I say wear whatever the hell you want. I wear steel-toe boots, blue jeans and a white T-shirt every day. I've been compared to a cartoon character in the sense that the outfit never changes. It's been such a mild form of amusement that the folks at the local Denny's I haunt have taken to calling me "T-Shirt" or "White-T." See, I even get a personalized piece of pie.
Fashion is for people without charisma.
Hope you got your things together. Hope you are quite prepared to die. Looks like we're in for nasty weather. ... There's a bad moon on the rise.

That's a pretty broad statement about fashion being for people without charisma. In fact, I would say that the most energetic people I know wear the most outrageous things. Also, I know a lot of people who keep up with fashion and are very social and have great characters. I'm not quite sure were you make your assumption from.

I dunno... seems more like hes using his bad cloths as a crutch.
You don't need charisma to get attention if you look outrageous.
You're being compared to a cartoon character; In what world is that desirable? I'm considered a funny guy, but I don't need to dress like a clown. Keeping up with fashion isn't a crutch; Its an even playing field from when your personality becomes your sole factor.
If you dress well, you're not put into any label. If you dress like trash, you're often labeled ahead of time.
For example, that big muscular guy in the tight affliction T-shirt. 25 bucks nobodies gona think he's funny. Infact most poeple if he told a joke would probably be scared or confused. Likewise you see a guy in bizzare clothing, you see him as weird off the bat, and because of that perception people are going to assume what you say is a joke; even if it isn't always.
So if you fine with dressing the role you want to be, thats cool, but people who dress fashionably generally start off on a clean state and then you have to use your personality to define who you are. When a good looking guy in a jacket and nice cloths comes up... he could be funny... he could be hardcore, he could be anything.
He could even be a boat... you know how much we've always wanted a boat!
Personally, I like blazers and jackets. If I was the Op, I would invest in some good printed T's and V'necks.
Your shirt under the jacket is where you get to have fun. Either layer with a hoodie, or pop on that bright blue Superman T-shirt... Goto a place like Bluenotes (I believe they have the big Nintendo contract) and pick up some good ol mario printed T's. I got one of the old Bullet bill from the SNES; Its done me very well
TL;DR SECTION
-Being unfashionable is a crutch, not vice versa.
-Suit jackets are awesome!
-So is Super Mario.
after 6 or so years, I had to change it a little...
People are too worried about how they look lol. I just wear what i feel comfortable in, if other's don't like it to f'n bad.
I think it all depends on if you care what other's think or not, personally i don't really care if they like the way i dress or not.
I see too many people get stuck in this fashion crap and it ends up driving them crazy. When it takes someone 1hr or longer to get ready to go somewhere because they are worried about what others will think, then i see that as a mental issue =P

Bad fashion is for people without charisma. Duh! Why impress people with your personality when you dress like shit? they'll look at you anyways~
if you want attention, you dress like crap because people will look at you and ridicule your awful sense of style.
to dress decently means you'll blend in and thus, won't be an eyesore or an eyecatcher.
I could give you a whole lecture on why style and fashion is important (*cough cough* job interviews! *cough*), but i'm sure your girlfriends tell you all about it anyways.

Miami Vice says it's okay.

No. If you're wearing a suit jacket you need dress pants, with a belt and a shirt that works with a tie.
The only exception would be going for some sort of steam punk look. Even then you're going to have some of the above to some extent or another.
I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.

it may be OK for now. However, soon you'll be labeled as that guy who wears the jacket.
I work with a guy who does this from time to time

I'm trusting Japanese fashion more and more since they are on top of things and it's generally fine. You might want to add some variety though.

Way I see it, what's fashionable is what's trendy and what's trendy is empty headed. End of story.

Sounds to me like you only own one jacket.

I would have figured the whole thing about him hanging out at Denny's would have tipped you 2 off as to what kind of person he is.
Personally.... those middle aged men who camp Denny's/IHOP/Waffle House have creeped me out since I was little.
