Unsatisfied with my MMO experience. Please help

KoujowKoujow Member Posts: 25

I dont entirely know what the problem is, but I really do love MMOs... yet at the same time I generally hate them. I have been on a quest for the past few months to find an MMO that I would truly enjoy and while I have found some that seem interesting enough to keep me entertained, there don't really seem to be any MMOs out there that I can find that are what I want.

Whenever I try a new MMO, it will have one or two things that I will really enjoy. Maybe this MMO will have incredibly deep customization options, but the gameplay is buggy or feels weird and unresponsive. Or maybe its the reverse where the gameplay is fun, but it seems like there isnt any customization at all and everyone is just a clone of everyone else.

So I am just asking for help in finding an MMO that I might like. (I know, this is a noob post and it will only get more noob from here. XD )

Like a lot of people, I have played WoW, which was enjoyable in certain aspects but overall, this game leaves me feeling the most empty and desiring more.

Champions Online had amazing customization. Maybe it was just me, but the gameplay got old fast. (This is debatable, since I had only the free halloween weekend to try everything out and I didnt get the chance to try a lot of things)

The RvR and Gameplay of Warhammer Online and how they were weaved into each other instead of seperate things sounded very appealing to me, but this time, my college campus' internet blocks WAR, so I will be unable to try it until I return to my parents for Christmas.

EVE Online was interesting at first, since you were literally affecting the entire game with what you were doing, but... well, staring at black space for hours on end defiantly gets boring.

Guild Wars has been ok. It is kind of fun and has some nice customization. Havent played much into the free trial to find something to bitch about. :D

Playing: Heroes of Three Kingdoms
Played: WoW, DDO, Second Life, Diablo II,
Tried free trial: LoTR, Fallen Earth, EvE, Champions Online,

Vanguard has some pretty neat classes and customization where as Age of Conan has some responsive combat but not as good customization but a few unique classes - both have free trials out :)

You are unsatisfied because everything thats being played has already been done before and nothing new is in the process of being made except TOR and Secret World. So with that being the last hope in my book i myself will not be playing any MMOs for an even longer period of time. So the problem isn't you its just that games suck right now.

You might even check out the new Final Fantasy MMO when it comes out.  I've heard some really great things about it and we all know the FF people love customization and depth.

Try Darkfall.  Its not your average WoW/EQ clone.  Some people have tried it, looking for something not WoW/EQ, and end up liking it.

The definition of insanity: doing the same thing over and over expecting different results.

    Yep, Darkfall or Fallen Earth.

Sounds as you need something near a sandbox game, but still you want to mind your own business.

Darkfall will let you care as much as you want, when you want to. No classes, no levels and no xp. Its up to you instead.

I recommend a couple of games, first Runes of Magic.  As you are trying free trials you may as well try the best game F2P has to offer.  As you enjoyed WoW you will probably feel comfortable in RoM however I found my experience in RoM a lot deeper and more polished than my time in WoW.

I'm also fully enjoying Aion at the moment, however there is no free trail as of yet so it may be well worth hanging on to try that one.  I know these forums are full of trolls trying to kick Aion down, however I really like it, as do the many people I play with in game.

Sticking at Guild Wars might be a good idea too, as I had lots of fun there and played it non-stop for years.  There is plenty to explore and it's nice to progress and win based on how good you are at the game and not simply by how high level you are.

Try some of the classics, EQ, UO, etc that still have some dedicated fanbases.

Try something new like Fallen Earth, Afterworld, Face of Mankind, the Secret World

Try something that's like other stuff like Earth Eternal or Aion.

Try something kinda oddly refreshing like DOMO.

Give DDO a try it is at least different and has a F2P option.

Fallen Earth if you like PVE, crafting, adventuring, exploring. Also as a plus, very nice and mature playerbase.

Runes of Magic if you're unconfortable leaving a WoW-like MMO and don't have a lot of time to invest in a P2P game.

Darkfall if you're into harcore PVP. Be prepared to be ganked a lot in the first couple of weeks.

Better to be crazy, provided you know what sane is...

I say take a break. We all burn out on things after a while. Couple that with some lackluster releases and here you are.

If it were me I would go play Dragon Age: Origins and Borderlands for a while. To add some casual fun to those two there is Torchlight as well. All great games.

Dragon Age will definately satisfy the role playing itch too. It is really, really good.

I am down to just Champions right now for MMOs and waiting to see what Star Treck and The Old Republic end up like.
