My Fear...

I have a sneaky suspicion this game is geared towards the 12 year old kids watching the star wars clone wars cartoons that are out right now and not the people who have been following the franchise for longer.  This stems from not only the art style (which appears to match the cartoon identicially), but the heavy instancing, lack of crafting, I'm willing to bet short leveling curve, instant jump in with friends no matter where in the story line, game.

The game is going to be a "smash and grab" based upon all the info we currently have.  No depth, nothing.

ALL MMO's are meant for 12 year olds. The fact that most of us that play them are in our 20's just shows how immature most of us are. WoW is the worst of the bunch. So what. Incidentally, I'm 33.

    Its called "having fun".

    1. We don't know that there is heavy instancing only that there is instancing so stop blowing things out of proportion.

    2. Many games open without certain things in them. Housing and crafting are two of the things that tend to be added later. Stop overreacting. If you haven't realized this yet, there's something wrong with you.

    3. Your short levelling curve is total speculation on your part which is utterly childish. Beta hasn't even opened yet which means you don't bloody know how its going to level.

Now how about you chill out and wait until the damned devs start to release information before you go making it up to suit your own fears.

This site can never be to full of morons can it?
This stems from not only the art style (which appears to match the cartoon identicially),
And so it begins, alright, the art will differ to anybody a 12 year old to a 21 year old to a 60 year old might find the art good or bad, this could be an attraction for some and it may not be. WoW is very cartoon looking, yet it's crawling with adult players some that act as adults and some that act a children.

    but the heavy instancing
I'm at a bit of a loss here, are you saying "12 year olds" specifically look for instanced MMOs? I mean your entire thread is about the corruption a 12 year old brings, I hope you understand the irony to your entire thread. It makes you a little immature to generalize people for liking certain mechanics/features.
For the millionth time (probably more then that) this game is said to be open world, instancing will be used, should be expected, but you wont be hitting loading screen after loading screen like AoC.
    lack of crafting
I'm not twelve, far from it, "lack of crafting" does not bother me, I really don't care for it and probably never will. However I support it because I know there are people that enjoy it. Here is what I see BioWare doing, Plenty of crafting, not required. Everybody is happy. Well except those that can't live without every game being built for them and them only, funny how most of THOSE people are twice to tripple the age of twelve.
I'm willing to bet short leveling curve instant jump in with friends no matter where in the story line, game.
HAH, and this is a bad thing? The only problem that should be seen with this is if you actually lack friends to play with and have to use leveling to occupy your time. An MMO I can jump in with friends no matter where in the story line? Fuck yeah and /support. But again, what exactly does this have to do with 12 year olds? I understand you're not exactly targeting that number, you're actually targeting any kid. But can you explain to me exactly why being able to join friends in a game and skip all that "WORK" in favor of fun is a bad thing?

From what I've seen so far I have very little interest in TOR. I wish the MMO and Bioware the best but something about a Star Wars MMO turns me right off.

My prediction is this will be an MMO created for fans of Star Wars. Those not much into the Star Wars sceen (like myself) will likely grow bored of TOR fairly quickly.

Bioware is the god of single player RPG's atm but I think they need more then one MMO under their belt before I'll even consider them as a serious MMO producer. Let alone a Star Wars MMO lol

My fear is that SW:TOR will be incredibly underwhelming, just like I found Dragon Age to be.

I'm not here to complete my forum PVP dailies.

I'm sorry, correct me if i'm wrong but how many MMO's had blizzard made before WoW? Exactly who are serious MMO developers? Do you have to have lots of mediocre games before you are considered one? Surely being a respected games developer is more appealing then being a serious MMO producer?

I would not be to sure about that if I was you. I think BioWare is going to build it to appeal to anybody, hardcore SW fans, KoTOR fans, RPG fans, basically anybody.

BioWare in my opinion is the master of RPGs. Do I believe they need more experience with MMOs to pull it off (from my understand this the only way to get experience with mmos)......LOL. Is that why War and AoC was good and WoW was so bad? It's funny, for all the experience SoE had, SWG was never very good.

I always believed Quality over Quantity, apparently some people believe otherwise.

WAR was Mythic's second MMO and we all know were that one went.

I would think that business wise, it makes much more sense to market the game to Star Wars fans than MMO fans. There are a lot more of them.

Not to mention, just the fact they have an existing IP like Star Wars prefaces the fact that they want fans of said IP to play it. Otherwise, it would be an original BioWare IP like Dragon Age. Don't sell yourself short- you have stated fact, not prediction.

Fans of both SW and BioWare will check this out. I know I like BioWare's vision of the SW galaxies more than George Lucas'. That is sacrilege, I know. But I stand by it.

I say let them go for it. If this game brings something new to MMO's, then more power to it. Even just one kickass new concept that future MMO's will copy and implement, will make this game worth it's weight. I'm sure after 50 more games like that, we will finally have the game we've all been waiting for.

I agree with you completely, infact I would go so far as to say this MMO is the most exciting in development in terms of potential because of all the factors surrounding it. I mean look at WoW, even if by now you are sick of the site of it or you are still madly in love, you have to respect the level of success it has achieved. Warcraft, as an IP, had no where near the level of fandom that the SW franchise had and has today. Saying that, Warcraft (pre-wow) and KoTOR are fairly similar products in terms of niche factions within in the gaming industry.

I in no way believe that ToR will be a WoW killer, the term if thrown around too often. Every MMO coming out is hyped with this term: Aion, AoC, WAR, etc etc and the fact is, they just can't because they follow the WoW template too closely. ToR already has a selling point in the way of story driven content, which we already know is genuinely interesting and introcate through the KoTOR franchise. I wouldn't want to guess on success levels at this point, and I don't think the gameplay will differ enough from other MMO's to truely revolutionise the genre (the only way to surpass WoW imo), however I personally have more optimism for this MMO than I have had for one in a long time.

That's how I feel, I'm usually skeptical and my skepticism is often correct. Something about ToR (with kotor, bioware, and star wars aside) looks promising, it could be a single thing or it could be a list of things. At this time I really can't say, it just looks like the MMO I may be playing for years to come. That is of course they avoid everything I find to be the sin of MMOs.

The Clone Wars cartoon is pretty much awesome now-a-days (hasn't been a weak episode in season 2 yet) and as such I have a sneaking suspicion that your opinion is worthless and without relevance.

Why don't you try watching/playing something next time before bashing it.

    BLASPHEMY.

Not many will admit to enjoying the Clone Wars show, I like it to. I think the series has been more about Star Wars then the movies actually. I think people look at it, figure it's for kids then join in on bashing it.  I'll admit I think Cad Bane makes the show great, probably makes up for 50% of my enjoyment with the show.

As far as I'm concerned the Clone Wars TV Show is Lucas's formal apology to the fans for the Prequel Trilogy.

    Apology accepted Mr. Lucas.

    CAD BANE FTW!!!!

I like, considering how much information the dev's have released, that everyone jumps to conclusions. The OP , i would like to know where you got your info from cause you seem to have the inside track on how this games developing. considering all we have seen is 20mins of game play, a few classes, and heaps of interviews about the story aspect, i dont think really you can jump to the conclusions that you have.

I don't think I can even safely respond with what Star Wars is anymore when Lucas is involved. BioWare on the other hand, they seem to get it. Safest bet is to wait till you can experience for yourself. Did you even like KOTOR?

The OP is your typical run of the mill WoW player. And he say's shit like 12year old's, smash and grab, no depth and short leveling curve. I don't know if i should laugh, or at this point feel sorry for him.
