And tell me that people would actually play this game if it didnt have the Lotro ip to it. Its nothing more than WoW clone with the lotro iup attatched to it. Hardly anything to be excited about unless you are one of those dihards who looks through those rose-colored glasses. Atleast the Torchlight mmo will not be a WoW clone.
Gotta pretty much agree, I would play if they did something more to differentiate them self from the rest. While their story system sounds intriguing it also sounds as if its not a major part of the game. It sounds like just another, title chasing, achievement based theme-park with raiding being the endgame. Please tell me I am wrong if I am but from everything I have read (only played open beta, and a few trials) sounds like this is the just of the game.
That's about it. It is the Lotr lore and stroy that people that play like. That is why I started back in beta. The lack of speed in combat gets a bit boring after awhile. I still haven't made it through Moria yet. I left for 6 months or so and came back for Moria. I lost touch with the friends I had in game so I end up playing solo most of the time. Solo with the slower tactical combat keeps me from loging in for more than an hour or so at a time. It gets boring.
I will be going back for the Merkwood expansion because I have a lifetime sub. I just can't handle the giant dark dungeon that is Moria. I need to get back out into the world of Middle Earth. The world they created is nice. But it can only take you so far.
How many people long for that "past, simpler, and better world," I wonder, without ever recognizing the truth that perhaps it was they who were simpler and better, and not the world about them? R.A.Salvatore
I also have a lifetime membership, but have spent one hour ingame in the last year. Why?
Because autotarget games are boring.
Darkfall and Fallen Earth (and Oblivion etc) have shown that an interesting combat model is the minimum required now.
Anyone silly enough to release a new autotarget game now deserves all the criticism they get.
I would love to play my ranger in Lotro if it was aimed targetting and not the wow model.
Playing: Darkfall New Dawn (and planning to play Fallout 76) Favourite games have included: UO, Lineage2, Darkfall, Lotro, Baldur's Gate, SSX, FF7 and yes the original Wizardry on an Apple IIe
I still stop in off and on, I have the founders lifetime sub . I play a couple of days on my spider, then end up leaving. I absolutely love everything about this game, except that monster play is worthless. My spider (which I spent 5000x more time on than any freep I have) is still way underpowered, and my warg (which I spent maybe 1000x more time than any freep) can only solo a noob with no gear or skill. Any freep with half a brain and decent gear can own 1-5 monsters. My second beef about monster play is that you can only capture and do the quests on one map so many times before it makes you sick. I would definitely come back and stay if they fixed monster play. It's fun in low doses, but I'm an addict lol.
I still say monsters should be able to raid middle earth if they capture all the keeps

That's how I felt as well until I played it a bit and switched out the default UI and customized it some. It's pretty different - the feel of the world, the graphics, etc. The questing has too many kill x things, but the writing is far far better, and that's not even counting the epic questline, which is better than quite a few single player RPGs I've played (for comparison, Guild War's storyline is mostly trash, although somewhat amusing in parts). They've done a great deal of research into the lore and it's evident if you read even half the things you get exposed to while playing. It does sound like you haven't played at all.
(And the storyline - epic questline - is definitely a big part of the game, and many sidequests, aside from gather X (sigh, but it works if you ignore them, since you end up doing the kill X while doing something else anyway) ones, feed into the main plot.)
edit: As for world pvp, not going to happen unless it's in specific maps, as currently. The playerbase would riot (lots of casual roleplayers, at least on Landroval).
I would sub to LOTRO tomorrow if they would make changes to one thing.
The character generator. It's so old and tacky. It doesn't have anywhere near enough options, and the final result is a plastic looking distorted blob thing with rubber legs. If they brought the character generator up to date so that I could make a reasonable looking character I would subscribe, and I would very likely subscribe for a very long time, because the rest of the game is very good.
-And you are not playing LOTRO because of that O.o? no offence m8 but you have some serious issues lol <_<
-Ummm yeah right.....imagine the ganking from lvl60/65 creeps lol, and to make creeps lvl from lvl1 like normal chars it would require to expand game in creeps favour which i think they will never do, and tbh pvp in lotro blows.

This is why i dont play the game. But hey each to there own, can imagine for a PVE lover its very good game.

-Hehe yep pve is awesome, tho i can't imagine anyone playing lotro just for pvp, but when you think about it....it would be funt having lvl1 warg-pup and lvlup doing quests and stuff :P and following some good story line with maybe lost book quests or something
I've been playing for about 6-7 months now and I just love it. The graphics are second only to AoC so I don't understand the comment about the DDO engine, at all. The lore and the story are what sucked me in. The housing, crafting, and the community are just some of the things keeping me here.
There are some things that I don't like, of course. The character models all run like they have a stick up their arse. The hair looks like play-dough moldings they just placed on their heads. I hate having to dismount to go through my neighborhood portal and talk to NPC's (this is getting fixed in the xpac). Saying everyone looks the same makes me think you haven't even played the game, though. With the cosmetic system, dye system and barbershop no one really looks a like.
They do seem to listen to their player base. Some of the quality of life issues players have complained about are getting fixed in the upcoming issue. They are adding the new mount system (very excited about this), auto-complete mailing (its about time), and the ability to do some of the epic books solo, if you so choose or can't find a group. Great things are happening in Middle Earth.

Agreed completely. These two things, especially the latter, were a big slap in the face during my trial. I can't imagine that the character generator is a anything but a detriment to the rest of the game Some of the animations are good actually, it's just that the really bad ones (probably half, especially some combat) really really stick out (riding a horse?!!?). The hair is shocking as well, especially if you compare it to how well the facial animations are done. I hope they fix this sometime; they're supposedly releasing a DX11 client next year sometime, so I hope that'll be an engine overhaul that includes some character fixes. Psyched about the horses though
I would actually sub if... 1. They stop using a rehauled old engine that DDO ran on. Eh I cant think of a better MMO egine than the LotrO/DDO engine, The Graphics vs performance is the best in the industry. 2. Group play, is there any need to group in this game ? None because now its being made to solo. Eh there is alot of group content and the changes coming in SoM is only affecting Book1-2 so far. There is currently 22 epic books in the game.. LotrO is probably one of the most group oriented modern MMOs but still d needs alot of work (like a mentoring system ) 3. Be a part of Frodos expedition to Mount Doom. Be able to play the Mordor side. Eh you can play "the mordor side".. If you want more then read the books an understand why you cant. Why would you want to follow Frodo? 4. Needs more immersion, the world is dull and boring. You don't even get chased by a group of ring wraiths. IMO its by far the most immerisve MMO world. You get chased by ring wraith but only in instances because it would make no sense to ahve them running around freely in the orld. Again, read the books... 5. Combat is just average. Combat is a bit slower and more tactical than most MMOs, Some like it some dont, just like all games. If I didn't know any better, all the did was read up on the ip, creat something that might resembled middle earth and slap a pricetag on it. Maybe its time to go back and hype the cartoonish Diablo clone youve been hyping so much...

You sir are a complete idiot. Let us forget for a moment that WoW has been taking idea's from LoTRO since it launched (LoTRO launched that is) and see what you are saying. How well would WoW have done without the name attached to it?
ANY game has to have lore behind it to make it work. LoTRO had and did this, and did it VERY well by working with the Tolkien group very closely.
