Hello everyone!
I barely ever post on the forums, but the old man here is in need of serious help from fellow MMORPGers and that's why I decided that maybe asking for opinions here could help me...
I recently hit a brick wall regarding MMORPGs: I'm pretty sure I'm completely burned out on the Fantasy-genre... For the past 10-12 years I played mostly that type of MMORPGs (Ragnarok Online, EQ, GW, FF11, WoW, AION, Warhammer, name it) and recently found out, after coming back to WoW from AION just to give it another shot after a couple of months away, that I just don't find anything interesting in that kind of ''Fantasy-Medieval'' setup anymore... Swords, Magic, Knights, Rogues, Mages, Elves, etc etc etc I just can't stand it anymore, and decided to put a big ''no-no'' on the Fantasy-genre after so many years in it... I really need something new...
Right now I have my eyes set on Black Prophecy, Jumpgate Evolution, APB, Secret World, Perpetuum and a couple more titles that are either Sci-Fi, Space Shooters, Post-Apocalyptic Real-World Theme and such (I'm a really big fan of that). But the problem is that they are all further down the road, leaving me staring at my screen and scratching my head trying to find out what to play next..
Can you guys recommend anything good on the market right now, that is NOT anything related to Fantasy, Magic, Elves and such? And don't recommend EVE to me: just finished trying it for the past 2 hours, way too technical and deep, scary lol :P

Lol just try sticking with EVE, think of it as mental training for NASA. Haha anyways if you really can't get into eve i would say check out Fallen earth.
Sorry, but after all the games you say you have tried I would think you should know that you cannot expect to come to grips with an MMO in only 2 hours?
Sort of makes suggesting anything at all very difficult?
Nothing says irony like spelling ideot wrong.
Mental training for NASA rofl!!!!
Yeah I heard about Fallen Earth a lot, but after watching tons of videos and screenshot I'm rather skeptical about the graphics, looks a bit outdated to me (yeah sorry but I like my MMOs to have at least half-decent graphics :P) Well maybe I should give it a try yeah, will take a look thanks
Gyrus: it is the ''point-and-click'' aspect of the game also that turned me off a bit, was expecting some kind of Wing Commander online (for those of you who remember that great series) when I tried the game, free movements with ASDW (or similar) if you know what I mean, not clicking and selecting different options just to move somewhere....
Waiting for more opinions, and taking notes of course!
I have been playing Fallen Earth lately after bout to give up on MMO's for good and it's pretty good way different than anything I have ever played. Very mature community I haven't met a single annoying little kid since I been started a month ago. There giving away free trials again starting today through "the Escapist" web site Might want to check it out. Only MMO I have played in a very long time that has a very refreshing "Adult" feel to it.
Try Fallen Earth!
Alright, seems like I hear about it quite often, downloading the trial as we speak lol :P
Keep the suggestions coming and thanks for the replies guys, really appreciated
You might give Jumpgate (the original) a try as a prelude to Jumpgate Evolution. It is somewhat dated, but still has the space flight physics feel that will be carried over to Evolution. I believe Jumpgate has a free trial as well.

fallen earth is fun and the graphics isnt bad, just dont play a melee character in first person, it looks very bad to me, one of the worse animations i ever saw lol but with the camera behind you melee doesnt look bad.
Ok I downloaded the Fallen Earth trial, still have a good 9 hours remaining to download / patch the client. Wonder why it's slow like that, I usually have a top notch connection running at 800-900 kbs) so I'll be able to try it tomorrow morning... Meh...
Any other suggestions aside from Fallen Earth (and Jumpgate) ?
Almost all of the games today are fantasy based but if you want a game with no Elves and Ogres as character classes I suggest you try Atlantica Online. It's a strategic turned based game which is not only based in asian culture but also with other cultures all around the world.
I quess you already know but Star Trek Online is coming out feb 2. Im in the same boat as you , im tired of all these fantasy games, they are starting to make me noxious. Right now im looking at STO, Global Agenda, SWTOR.
Not a fan of Star Trek at all... And don't know much about it...
Aside from Captain Kurt, Spock... And that's it lol!
Oh the common big round ship too.
FunCom is making a new MMO about secret societies (think Illuminati).
Anyway here is the website because not many people know about this game yet and it looks interesting. Maybe you can look into it even though it isn't out yet.

He already stated in the OP that he's interested in that.
Silly people still don't read the original post before replying.. Nothing personal, I know you were just trying to help..
Anyway.. I feel for you. I know you're just looking for something that will get you interested again like MMOs used to years ago. I'll also say that Fallen Earth may be a decent match for now. I don't know what's up with the patcher.. It was like that for me, too. I just stuck it out. *shrug* FE seems like a game that takes a while to get used to, and to learn. But that's a plus in my book when it comes to new games.. If you already know exactly how everything works, it means that the game is too much like games you've already played.
Other than that, barring games that aren't out yet, I don't know what to suggest. I would recommend Ryzom, it's not your typical fantasy type.. but it may be similiar enough that you wouldn't be interested - i don't know.
Best of luck finding something you click with. Who knows, Fallen Earth may just be the one.

If you don't find the fantasy genre entertaining anymore but,you still want to play some games that are kind of life fantasy but a completely different setting, you should really check out some sci-fi or space games. They are still "Fairy Tale" if you will but, different settings, different options, different gameplay.Although I've never personally played either of them,I'd recommend,Star Trek or Star Wars. Both games are wildly popular and are the most advanced games in that genre right now.I'd also say you could try Fallen Earth but, seems you like you've gotten that suggestion already..=]
Star wars Galaxies, I know the game has a lot of bad rep on this forum but i started it up a few days ago with a couple friends and am really having fun.
Check out the trial.

I feel your pain brother.
I'm very burnt out on fantasy MMOs as well, and have been for a while. Actually, I've been thinking lately that it's not so much fantasy based MMOs, but the whole typical MMO procedure as we know it (and you may be having the same problem). What I mean is, the whole "kill, loot, level" treadmill. It goes something like this, you fight some mobs to get some equipment, so you can fight tougher mobs, to get better equipment, so you can fight even tougher mobs, so you can get even better equipment, etc etc etc (repeat until you puke).
I personally don't think Fallen Earth will do it for you because it's the typical MMO game plan that you've grown tired of.
Back in 1999 when I started with EQ, it certainly wasn't like this, or if it was, it was certainly veiled in a lot more fun, adventure, and pleasant community. I don't know if I changed, the genre changed, or maybe it was that we both changed, but I am very much sick of the whole thing now and am looking for something different.
That is why I am currently playing Eve. It's certainly not because I am head-over-heels in love with it, but because it is the only thing out there that is even slightly different than the rest. however, i am very much looking forward to Global Agenda. Being a long time Planetside player, GA seems to be right up my alley in what i am looking for. Not a heck of a lot of time commitment, not too deep, a lot of fun...oh and of course, no elves
GhostX had a pretty good review on MMOhut. I haven't played it but it's in my list of MMOs to download:

Alas, nothing really atm I can recommend. Wait for Star Trek Online Feb. 2010. Or try Champions Online, which is something different. And later next year SWTOR.
Make a break. Play single player games. ^^

Okay so I played Fallen Earth for the past couple of days (20+ hours for sure atleast) and unfortunately, and I can't say why exactly, game is just not ''hooking'' me... : /
Also tried Vendetta Online, was so-so, didn't enjoy it much...
Currently downloading the client for Requiem: Bloodymare (err sorry Memento Mori now I think), will see how it goes... So wish someone could just come up with that magic suggestion that would do it for me lol :P
