Movies You Like That You Know You Shouldn't

What are the movies that you know you shouldn't like, but you do anyway, especially if they're cheesy/stupid? I use this phrase because I've grown less fond of the word "guilty pleasure"; if I like it, there's no reason I should feel guilty for it, even if I know I probably shouldn't be enjoying it as much as I am. I would appreciate it if you explained why you picked you certain choices. Here are some of mine:

The National Treasure movies: Their plots make The Da Vinci Code look reasonable and the dialogue is full-bore blockbuster stupid, but they're very well-acted and crafted; say what you will about Nicolas Cage, but he definitely knows how to mix "crazy" with "enthusiastic", and the supporting cast in both films is insane: Harvey Keitel, Jon Voight, Sean Bean, Bruce Greenwood, Ed Harris, HELEN FRICKIN MIRREN! Also, director Jon Turtletaub does a nicely professional job with both action and expository scenes.

Van Helsing: Yes, it is a very stupid movie. Yes, the special effects are... uneven, to be kind. Yes, Richard Roxburgh is one of the hammiest Draculas in all of existence. But damn it if I don't enjoy every second of it; director Stephen Sommers is like a big kid with the best toy box in the world, and that enthusiasm bleeds out of the screen.

Any takers?

If you like something then you like it.

The new Transformers movie got badly reviewed but I still had fun watching it. I mean there are some moments that make you cringe like them black twin robots or whatever and when one of them humps that girls leg. However I watch movies alone so it didn't bother me too much.

    **Warning I'm Married**

The Devil Wears Prada - It's actually not that bad of a movie.

August Rush - I probably wouldn't have liked this and was pretty pissed off about seeing the movie in the theaters until I saw Robin Williams.... he's one of my favorite comedians. He wasn't a comedian in this, but he's still a damn good actor. The movie is really good, gave me the same feeling as when I saw "Pass it Forward" for the first time.

Transformers 2 - There is nothing there! But, I watched it 5 times! lol

Be Kind Please Rewind - meh. I liked it. Jack Black and Mos Def work good together.

Van Wilder: The Rise of Taj - Bahhhhhhh Edwaaarrrd :)

That's all I can think of off the top of my head. I'm sure there are a few other chick flicks that I like, that I probably shouldn't.

How about movies I wish I liked and was hoping to like but was extremely pissed off when I saw the filth?

The movie 9 comes to mind. What a horrible piece of trash and yet it still has good ratings on imdb and netflix. Let me sum it up for you.

    "AHHHHHHHHH MONSTER"

    "AHHHHHHHHH MONSTER"

    "AHHHHHHHHH MONSTER"

Read those 3 lines for 90min and you have now officially watched the movie 9.

First one that pops out at me is "Jingle All the Way". I don't even have the excuse that I was really young when I first saw it and so it brings back memories and all of that. As lame as it is, I still really enjoy watching it at Christmas time each year because of how bright and happy it is.

Haha, upupeng when I saw this thread I immideatily thought National Treasure. I'm not really sure why I love the movies so much. The whole conspiracy theory and old american history i guess just wraps me in.

    Constantine.

Keanu Reeves is a terrible actor, and the plot was really predictable, and truth be told, I never much enjoyed the comic. But I love this movie, and I will watch it almost every time it is on TV. Rachel Weisz being in that movie doesn't hurt, either.

These are the two I know I shouldn't like but I just can't help myself.

In America I have bad teeth. If I lived in England my teeth would be perfect.

I liked lady in the water.    (seriously I shouldn't have to say any more)

I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.

Same here lol! Cheesy, yet....I'm drawn to it for some reason. Guess it's because it is from my childhood. Also, The Quiet Man for me. John Wayne & Maureen O'Hara. Made in 1952. It has everything...action, comedy, love story, drama, etc.

P.S. LOVE the gif. I HATE those Mac commercials.

Martyrs - Haven't had that kind of feeling after watching a movie (first time) since I was 6 years old and watched "IT".

Couldn't resist to watch it two more times anyway.

Been putting this movie off, I was going to go see it in theaters several times but every time I found something else to go see and this movie really wasn't getting any good reviews online.

I have to say, I can't see why people don't like this movie. It was pretty much a cartoon.... I guess that's why? they were mislead? But, other than that it had everything a good movie should have and it really didn't cross too far into the unbelievable.... which I thought it was going to.

Lots of action, well drawn plot line, well developed characters.... for almost everyone, several followable subplots, pretty good special effects, well written script, and good acting (minus Rex... he's a good actor though. Wtf is with that?). How can anyone who enjoys scifi or actions say they don't like this movie?

The only movie that I can think of that fits this catagory is School of Rock, that Jack Black movie. I don't know why I love it so much... first time I watched it five times on repeat (and not counting the parts I rewound just so I could watch it again). I know it is reminicent of High School Music and Camp Rock, but still... it was really fun to watch. I especially liked that drummer guy.

    Main characters:
    Jinn Gone Quiet (Guild Wars)
    Princess Pudding (Guild Wars)

I want to contribute to this thread but I cant really think of much

so here's to cheesy horror films

Puppet Master series is cool imo (3 is the best). They are making a new one to be released in 2010 (puppet master: axis of evil). It is supposed to be a true sequel of the WWII ridden  world of #3. That means the puppets will be fighting nazis again.

I liked the new Wickerman and the old Wickerman. Some people would say there is something wrong with me for liking one or the other.

Then there is a movie called The Forbidden Zone which is the randomest piece of crap ever made - and that's why I like it. OKAY most of the plot is like an mmorpg (we have to get the key to go to the next scene...) but damn if this movie is random

clip of how random this movie is

I didn't think that GI Joe had that great of a plot, but I didn't expect it too. It did though deliever on the action which is what I paid for.

I almost forgot John Water's early movies. Polyester is my favorite but it is definitely more tame than Pink Flamingos.

It wasn't the greatest, I agree. But at least it was well drawn and made sense. I could name probably name 100 movies that are huge hits that really don't have any plot at all and it's just abunch of characters running around for 90min with no real purpose.

the movie that i like but i shouldn't is the movie Apocalypto...at first i wanted to puke because of the ways of killing and removing the organs of an animal...the brutal killing and human sacrificing..but in the end i like the concept of the story.

Yeah, any guy who likes The Quiet Man - in large part a romance - is going to be accused of being gay. But it's a fine, fine movie. I've probably watched it 10 or more times now (and all you others can just slag off).

Other secret pleasures of mine? I've been known to rent cheesy sci-fi stuff from Netflix, like Buck Rogers serials from the 30's, or collections of the 60's TV show 'The Thunderbirds'. And then gently regress back to my childhood.
