Had my first DFO battle

Agricola1Agricola1 Member UncommonPosts: 4,977

Well I went into battle the first time in DFO Friday night, our alliance was challenging someone (tokrah) for a resource shard I think. The alliance gathered up a sizeable force and since I was looking pretty pathetic I was given a crap load of armour :). It was explained that we were attacking for a shard which is like a deed for some resources, I'm still not 100% on all of this. It was explained one of the enemy has to hold and keep the deed for 4 hours without going offline whilst we had to kill him to acquire it. He would hide and his clan/alliance defend him.

Well we set off, I was hanging back to fight a valiant rear guard action (I'm a noob man!). The enemy were hiding out in some underground caverns only accesable by diving into a river and swimming in. There was a ruckuss going on inside already and I followed a clan member in, as I rose from the depths into the cavern I was struck on the head. It was all rather confusing to be honest, with no floating information above peoples heads until you put your crosshairs over them I wasn't sure who was who.

Well I worked out who the enemy was and the computer had notified us that the shard holder had been killed, so I was witnessing the enemy now flee. I gave chase and hit a guy a few times but they were all diving into the water and swimming out the opposite end. It seems we arrived a little late, those of us that weren't looting the enemy were chasing the fleeing stragglers for the hope of some loot and a little glory perhaps ;)

Well before I knew it, the battle was over:( I was told it was a vaery short battle as DFO battles go and that sieges were totaly different affairs. It seems war is strategic as much as it is tactical and logistical, it was still alot of fun and the most PvP fun I've had since I first started playing EVE in an alliance! I hope I'll see another one before I review next week but until then my short summary is,

:)

"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience"

Lol great pic and thanks for sharing your first battle. Even though it was brief, I love hearing about people's experiences in game.

Ghoul31 stop embarrasing yourself, at this point people are interested in hearing about stuff exactly like this. Put your tail between your legs and kindly leave this thread. You add nothing but stupidity.

There I told him. He'll never come back. Lol, ya right.

Never said it was a great story, just that people are interested in reading about stuff like this. You know the first experiences and such?

These experiences do not have to be grand tales of glorious battles taking 5 hours to end kind of thing.

That's why I made up that pic to go with it, I realize it wasn't some epic server shaking battle that will be remembered through gaming history and told of to children in years to come. However it was my first battle and I wanted to share it (what little there was) and decided to make a funny pic to make it worthwhile clicking on my thread,

am I off the hook now?

Well like in EVE my pulse rate is proportionate to what I could lose if I got wasted. Although I was crapping my pants at one point after I'd chased this guy, he'd dived into the water to swim under and out of the cavern. I looked about and realized I was surrounded by a sea of reds with no friendlies. I nearly crapped myself however they were so preoccupied with trying to save thier own skins they ignored me to dive in and swim to freedom!

I must admit I felt a bit shaky for a second there!

Haha! Great first battle story! The pic is quite accurate, I'm sure.

I'm still soloing it for now, working on my title quests. The game's locking up my comp lately though, and I can't quite figure out why. Hopefully I get it sorted out soon and get back to playing.

I also experienced my first skirmish last night.

It involved us giving chase to two baddies that tried coming to our clan city and stir up havoc. They didn't kill anyone until we chased them around a mountain, got to the other side, and there were 10 magic users up on the hill that rained hell on us. It was quite dissapointing.

    The end. (lol?)

wow people didn't explain to you what a shard holder is lol. A shard holder is the person you have to kill in order to win the challange against your guild's/alliance's holding. They are challenging you for control over a hamlet or something and hes the guy that has the thing that started it all. Its like smeer the queer but on a epic level. Of course, you can simply just defend your holding, but that would take forever.

Ah so they challenged us for the Hamlet and its resources? It was probably me being a noob and not catching on to all I was told. Thanks.

    Great fun story

After getting bored to tears with Fallen earth (probably the easiest solo mmorpg ever made to this day), i decided to challenge myself with DFO sometimes ago. Sooo glad i did.

Your battle story reflects what has been missing in mmorpg's for years :

A sense of adventure & adrenaline rush
