It doesn't lack content. You must be meaning there isn't quests, that's true. But the content is there.

I'm lvl40 now and don't feel bored. It's actually getting more exciting, now that I know the places and have learned my class better.

Love it how the fan boys come and try and spin it up. Fact is the content is lacking what ever way you spin it.

I am lvl 37, and 4 bars before 38.  I am 30/30 on Quests which are all quests below lvl 38.  I have done MM once, LC once, and the Miners area once.

More often than not, I have found a campsite with 10+ quests which I should have found one level earlier.  I HONESTLY do not understand why people say it requires a Grind.  Maybe at 40+ but I have yet to grind a SINGLE level or half a level, or a quarter of a lvl up to lvl 37.

For people who purposefully skip content (i.e. Do not do abyss quests, do not gather aether, gather crafting materials, do not do all the quests, skip the campaign mobs, etc.) then I can understand the need to "grind" to compensate.

Edit:  To think you should be able to reach 50 by doing quests alone is absurd.  This isn't WoW where you could get to lvl 80 with only quests.  In Aion, you can reach 50 by questing, gathering, pvping, etc.  Questing is only one component of the game.  Where as in WoW, that one and only component was questing to reach 80.  In WoW you didn't get xp from pvp nor did you get xp from gathering or crafting.

As of now, my gathering/crafting accounts for 10% of my 37 lvls.

Edit 2:  The abyss is open from 25+.  There are lvl 25+ abyss items that you should be trying to get.  By taking fortresses and artifacts, you get xp and abyss points.  Last night, the Artifact protectors were giving us 80k xp.   For people that do not regularly pvp and do everything else that Aion offers BEFORE reaching 50, of course you'll burn out on the grind.

Because we have had a different game experience than you makes us fanboys? I spend my time gathering everything I see, taking it slow with quests, killing lots of things, and I have yet to "grind" (in the classic sense, but really, everything in an MMO is a grind.) at all. I am going on level 43, and have had a blast with so many different things to do, and can not wait for the future of Aion (if NCsoft decides to do anything).

That's the truth. I had a 44 ranger and couldn't stand the lack of content 40+, I found myself grinding the same elites over and over....doing the same instance (Steel Rake) over and over lol. It did get VERY boring (for me)and I had to close my account but I did enjoy it until it turned into a grind.

maybe or maybe not. I only hit level  30 for now - but  one thing is for sure I have never ran out of quests! In fact my quest log was constantly full.

yet I constantly heard people like you screaming that  it is a 'grind' to hit level 20 or at 25 or etc ... all that turned out to be pure nonsense - so I'll be  deeply skeptical towards your statements.

I have a lvl 37 Templar and a 28 Ranger.  I am a father and husband with a career.  I have NO intention to race to 50 because i'll get burned out and I dont' have the time.  I also realize that this isn't WoW where end-game is the start of the game.
Depending on how much time I have, on any given day, I either quest, abyss pvp, gather for my armorsmithing, grind for DP to morph into items that sell well in the AH, spend 2-3 days just gathering to make try to proc a few pieces of my next level armor set, do fire temple, do MM, do Lephartists Citadel, join a random fortress raid, join a random Rift raid, etc.

I am enjoying the ride.  I am smelling the roses.  I am looking forward to the journey and not the destination.  Insert what ever cliche you want here.

As an example, last week when I was lvl 35, I had 5 Spy quests I had yet to complete.  I stocked up on 200 potions, speed scrolls, 2 Group kisks, etc.  I found a rift that was capped at lvl 35.  Four hours later and two well hidden kisks later, I soloed the 5 Spy quests.  I died at least 15 times based on being zerged, but I also killed many Elyos along the way.  I ran when the numbers were against me and I hunted when I knew it was me against 3-4 lower lvl players.   One of the most memerable moments I had playing an MMO in the last few years.

Yesterday, a group of 12 of us decided to take Artifacts for the first time.  2 hours later and 4 artifacts captured, we had ~1200 Abyss points in our pockets and plenty of good times to be had.

I am loving my time in Aion only because I realize there is no finish line like others have created for themselves.  I came in with no expectations and fell in love with the game.

PS - I have yet to do a single grind in this game.  From lvl 30+ my quest log has been 25+ active quests.  I've only done fire temple 10 times, which is less than the grind in WoW.  However, I do gather a lot and I craft a lot.  Last night, I went from 322 - 399 in armorsmithing which gave me 3.5 million XP.
Early on I also crafted, which I believe accounts for 2-4 of my 37 lvls.
If you utilize all parts of the game, you will not have to grind.  If you only focus on one aspect of the game, you'll have to grind to compensate for it.

    I applaud you good sir!

This is the type of player I am too.  Too bad your Asmo.  I would like to point our the fact that if you take your time and enjoy the game you would not miss all the quests, dungeons, and crafting this game has to offer.  Thanks for posting this friend and I too hope Aion prospers.

You this poetic to your wife?

Anyways, Aion isn't really something I would play casually, as it's obviously intended for people who have time to waste, alot of time to waste.

Lets be real friend...if you are playing an MMO you are wasting time.  And I see nothing poetic about this post.  Maybe you should read some real poetry to learn what it is.

Ok, I'm spinning it. Or rather elaborating.

    I think content is:

    • crafting
    • PvP
    • killing mobs and having a chance to drop something rare or just valuable
    • playing with other people
    • quests

And the order of my preference is pretty much the one I just wrote them down. To me, it seems there's a lot of content.

Would you like to elaborate your view on the matter?

you see Aion is a game of many facets - most people approach it as a race to the max level. But guess what max level is not the goal, just play the game, enjoy the ride.

This game has so many minigames in it - is it maximizing the flight time to gather aether - risking one more high extract? Crafting and proccing a high level blue? Running the instances that are actually challenging and a bad pull can an will wipe you?

Running out of money? Actually I enjoy that immensely - and I ran out of coin a few times - only to make it back with a  proc on blue armor. finally a game when money actually matters- you have to make smart decisions - and when you do you are way ahead of those who make bad ones.

The vibrant economy, fights, gathering, crafting, enchanting, socketing, dyeing (coloring) your armorsets, campain quests, cutscenes, spectacular mob models, gliding, flying, tricks with dropping to the ground and breaking your fall at the last moment - (you can escape almost anyone that way), collecting faction specific resources on the opposing faction's land (make a fortune ), rifting, sieges, taking artifacts - boy this game has it all - 500 recipes for every craft, each node dropping two kinds of resources, customizing you build with stigmas
    such an amazing game

I have to agree with you. I was beginning to think no one could put out a highly polished and fun mmo again. After all the dismal failures in the past 2 years its refreshing to find a game thats actually playable at launch with a fully fleshed out world. I'm only lvl 35 and have been playing since "early access" and haven't even scratched the surface of most of the game. It still gets crowded in prime time around major quest hubs and quest mobs but I'd rather put up with "over" population than empty servers. But my biggest complaint is the bots, it seems success always brings in these large gold selling companies. To ensure the future success of Aion, NCSofts priority should be to eliminate these guys.

It's amazing how a majority of opinions completely change once you get past a certain level in this game (namely level 35).  It just seems once you get past that level, the quests aren't as fun, the pvp isn't as engaging, the repetition just seems to get more boring, etc.

Nobody still has explained yet what do you do once you reach level 50.  Grind AP?  Do Dredgion over and over again?  Gank lower levels?  It's actually an honest question.

You americans and your "buddy". Had a guild leader once who kept refering to everyone as buddies, damn it pissed me off xD.

Anyway, I got bored of Aion mainly because of the quests. I found them to be uninspired and repetative, and the voice acting for the ingame cinematics were usually just horrible.

Bots + co pissed me off aswell, but they weren't the real deal breaker for me.

    I think content is:

    • crafting - and having the gear that you make be actually at least equally as valuable as what is dropped.
    • PvP - with purpose, where there's real risk vs reward, taking and holding of objectives, impact on the game world
    • killing mobs and having a chance to drop something rare or just valuable - without having to grind through the same raid/instance 100 times to get said drop or valuable item.
    • playing with other people - preferably because the game mechanics reward group play in ways different from solo play.
    • quests - that are deep and involving, and lead to a feeling of epicness, and not just yet more kill this, fetch that.

And the order of my preference is pretty much the one I just wrote them down. To me, it seems there's a lot of content.

Would you like to elaborate your view on the matter?

So while at first Aion seems to fit the core requirements, for some of us looking for a bit deeper gaming experience Aion is coming up a bit short.

I'm still playing, but haven't reached the dreaded level 35 yet so we'll see how it goes down the road.

    • PvP thats still rock paper scissors tab targeting

    • quests that dont give much XP so i have to grind to get levels

Ummm - how is this different from any game? At some point you reach a  type of end game that you may or may not like.

It is not as if someone is putting a gun to your head. If the price provides an entertainment that is worth it to you then play on. If it does not  move on. Seems fair to me. There are plenty of fish in the sea, find yourself something that you like. It is almost saddening to see all these people  hang out in  forum of a game they do not like.

And yet you still haven't answered the question.  Or was the answer that there is nothing to do?  I'd love the opportunity to like the end game if there is something substantial to do at end game.  I was just asking what that was.  Sometimes end game is something as simple as leveling an alt, which I don't consider a viable option in this game.

Your not meant to solo quest all the way to 50 in Aion. Playing an easymode game like WoW has changed your vision on how a good game is meant to be played.

As someone posted earlier in this thread, "you need to smell the roses along the way" ....

-crafting, gathering, pvp, group content .... it all provides XP.

Thats why alot of WoW players cant handle a game like Aion, their used to having everything spoonfed to them in the least amount of time as possible. They need their instant gratification that blizzard hands them, repeat this proccess every patch and you have alot of blind sheep following the herd, Thank god Aion isn't like this ;)

I pre-ordered the game and played it a bit but then I decided to quit. But now I got a Chanter Lv.19, and so far I'm having fun.

I've also found a Legion which is gonna help me do some damn Campaign quests (those Krall AARRGG! lol), have to wait for patch first HAHA.

Hopefully I'll stick to Aion and I go through MMO's like no tomorrow, trying to find a one that I'd be happy paying a subcription fee.

  • I also go through mmo's like water. I just haven't been able to find one that keeps my interested, until now. I am not exactly sure what it is yet, but Aion keeps me coming back day after day. I enjoy the people, and have quite a lot of fun questing, and exploring. All I need to do is find a Legion! Any Asmo legion recruiting on Nezekan? My wife and I loved the game after the first month and paid for another. After another week of getting to our mid twenties we started to get bored. A week later we canceled. Maybe were just burned out on MMO games for we date back to UO. Aion is a very polished game and really have nothing bad to say about it. After talking with my wife about the game the one thing we wished Aion did was copy Warhammer's BG system without rewards though. I just want to be able to login and have some fair pvp options from time to time to break up the grind of leveling and get away from a lot of the ganking that goes on on our server.

This is called Ad hominem attack  It doesn't help your argument, does not make your opinion any more compelling. While I do think Aion is a great game, I also think WoW is a great game.

This is not a zero sum situation where one game has to be worse for the other to be enjoyable. We should rather count our blessings that we choices. Mind my words, there will be a time where you and I will be look back with nostalgia to the time when people were playing old school MMOs...
