Vanguard = EQ2 + WoW?

Tomo2109Tomo2109 Member Posts: 100

Vanguard is a game coming out in a year or so and it has the graphics of EQ2, maybe even better and hopefully the gameplay of WoW and have more varied content than both of them.

The main problems with EQ2 that many people have is lack of pvp and an unsoloable world, which WoW has plenty of.

The main problems with WoW is the graphics and the ease of it, which EQ2 has better.

Vanguard aims to mix both of these games and therefore becoming an ultima-game.

Hopefully the minimum requirments wont be high but not low. So far it looks like a fantastic game and hopefully will be, but who knows what will happen in a year before it is realesed.

With Sigil and Microsoft it's probably a pretty good bet to come out sometime, although it could be a "while".

I would expect it to be more similar to EQ1 and EQ2, not WOW.  In fact, their own FAQ suggests comparison to original EQ1 (thank you!).

I somewhat disgree with what you say are the main problems with EQ2 and WOW.  EQ2 is too forced and too linear in design.  The classes feel all the same, the races have no real distinctions other than stats or appearance (at least in the beginning), and the combat is simply too fast for this to be a social game.

WOW is too easy, plain and simple.  I do believe that for folks new to MMORPG's, this is a great game to pass the time with.  Think of checkers as opposed to a boardgame and you have what WOW is to MMORPG's; fun, easy, but less filling.

Vanguard, to be successful, will likely draw much from the greatest of all MMORPG's:  (pre-Luclin) Everquest.  I'm sure they'll add in innovations, but there is a formula in old EQ, a correct balance between socializing and action all thrown into an immersive game world, that is necessary to enthrall the older MMORPG crowd and bring us back in droves.  In short, I think Vanguard should draw very little from either EQ2 or WOW; maybe things like auto-splitting treasure and sheathing weapons, but not much more than that.

I think (hope) Vanguard will get it right.  Until then, I'm stepping out into the real world where they are no rezzes and no one drops any treasure.

ok, the graphics are not better then eq2 the characters are ugly. i dont know what the gameplay is like (which no one probably does yet). so, i cant really judge it, but the graphics are definately not better (better than WoW though).

I sure hope its not EQ2+WoW, then its just another 2nd generation MMORPG, were wanting somthing new and unique now. (Hoping eq2 and WoW are the last of a dieng breed)

Vanguard is all hype at this point. Noone knows how the game will really be, just more pre-wow/pre-eq2 massive hype. Not to mention that Microsoft is the devil::::40::

Vanguard Saga of Heroes is the spiritual sequel of EQLive (the original) so if you lovd the first EverQuest, im sure you will love Vanguard, but if you hate EQ stay away from it

If you're referring to Ultima Online then you should be lynched for blasphemy.  WoW plus EQ2 just equals WEoQW2.

I meant ultimate but who knows what it's going to be like. I mean it's still not in it's prime but it looks fantastic. I have no idea about gameplay but hopefully will be bopping good.

Please don't insult vanguard like this its Vanguard > EQ2 + WoW

The next wave of mmo's not only incorporate the aspects present in both of these games but also add gameplay features of thier own.  In the case of Vanguard, it adds alot.  I saw a video demonstration of the games engine a couple months ago that I downloaded off of Fileplanet.  The games graphics arent as good as EQ2's.  Vanguard incorporates the graphics better.  One thing not present in EQ2 is properly setting up an area to not only be claritible to the viewer, but also stunning.  SOE tried too hard to make the graphics photo-realistic that they forgot about artistic asthetics.
