Why the cheating on MMORPG "most popular" list?
I was planning to play DF but after seeing the horrible cheating on the front page of MMORPG and reading that this is commonplace in the game I decided to save my money and more importantly, time.
This who have started this should know that it ruins their game. Nobody likes a cheater.

At launch the cheating was rampant with speed hacks and all kinds of ungodly crap going on. That's one reason I didn't try this out a launch, apparently Aventurine cracked down on it a while back and there have been alot of accounts banned. I can only speak for what I have seen in my limited gametime, but I've not seen any hacks or macros used. People use macros like in anyother game but like other games you don't do it in sight of others as you'll get banned. There are no bots as any player can come along and kill you and steal your resources if you were gathering.
I wouldn't cite cheating as a reason not to try DFO as of today, 6 months ago yes but I just don't see it now.

Not quite as bad as the Vanguard debacle due to the fact that AV and Tasos weren't hyping as bad as mcQuaid was, but the hype was getting to ridiculous levels and fanbois were making stuff up that AV hadn't even promised!

He doesn't mean anything voted, he means the unique hits that makes DArkfall the most popular game and its not a matter of the past. Darkfall gets the most hits everyday also today for example and that buggs him. He also believe that number is generated through cheating but he is also wrong on that. It is just the use of twitter and a big circle of friends
DArkfall players not only are top dogs at twitch skills but also very clever in the use of any technology and very smart people in general

Well if someone is trying to cook the books (using proxys to generate unique hits?), I hope they're profiting by it. Can't say I ever look at those statistics as I go by what Roosevelt (I think) said "There are lies then there are damn lies then there are statistics". It's like the old Xfire argument when guessing sub numbers and so on, kind of like banging your head against a brick wall whilst eating broken glass.
No matter how hard you try to fudge the numbers it won't improve DFO, not that i don't think it's a damn good game. So I really don't know what to say, if it's for real then fine, if not well I suppose that's fine by me again ... /shrug.

It's funny. At times you see people here swear the MMO rankings mean nothing. Then they get upset when one they don't like becomes the #1 game.
The rankings here mean nothing. The hype meter means nothing. Don't judge a game by what the haters/fanbois on a forum say. If it looks interesting to you, try it! Make your decision based on what you have experienced.
Deciding not to play a game because they have a lot of votes/hits and you don't like that is stupid.

I don't play Darkfall because I didn't like it. The reasons are legion and I won't rehash them. But it is safe to say that one of those reasons is evident in the game tracker on MMORPG.com. Do I know for sure that a Darkfall fan or player rigged the numbers? No. I don't, but it's a safe bet I think. Because I run in to that attitude over and over with things relating to this half-assed game. We will do anything to look bigger than we are, a lame empty meaningless "win" is still a win! It's not the manipulation of the numbers on MMORPG.com I am talking about here, but the underlying mentality. Change the Google front page to say Darkfall is the number one game in the world if you like. Fail game is still fail.
The most popular list only tracks amount of people who visited that sites page on MMO. So you have to take an account go to the game list and click on the game.
Problem is when you know about a game there is absolutly no reason to ever go back to that page. You get information faster from the companies main page and you already know the basic information of what the game is about.
The most popular title is wrong to begin with and should simply be most visited. And since the top of the list is always 5000 or so hits and there are 1 million register members (not to mention that there is always 5x the amount of guests logged on as members) that amount is clearly not representative of anything.
Overall it is silly to track that number because it relates to nothing other then some accounts clicking on the darkfall page for 2 seconds.
I wonder how many more hits this thread gives DF today?

Its a twitter bot that has 10k friends that only post new post from this forum as tweets. Its not cheating, there are that many people into the drama that is darkfall.

You started off saying you don't like DFO went on to describe the players as tossers and the game as half assed and ended stating the game has failed. I think you could be right about fudging the numbers (I just don't know) but they aren't wildly different from the #2 game.

MMORPG.com reviews and hits apparently mean nothing. The reviews are all wack, and then the hits if they are low you are said to suck, and if they are high, oh you cheat.

The game is infested with bots, broken mechanics, a grind from 40 to 45 that made Final Fantasy look like Catholic schoo, LFG Anarchy full of idiots, no GMS for 2 months, and much more. Yet it gets an 8.7?
I am utterly convinved whoever reviewed it didn't get past level 15.
Wow (again, just being honest) is a much more polished game. Don't give me the being out 5 years thing, it should still have a higher rating than this Aion garbage, good game or not. Aion has been out a year. Anyway, sorry for the rant, just pointing out that reviews on this site don't mean much, because they have a comparison criteria that is flawed.

MMORPG.com ratings have been skewed since day 1. They have always been bullshit, and they always will be. Anyone who puts any stock in them is a damned fool at best. You can't have a proper rating system on a site that consists entirely of angry, jaded and all around childish gamers, fanbois and haters alike.
