    uhh play what you enjoy,

and you get more skilled as you go along.

Nothing is easy at the start but you can figure it out as you go :)

example: mages don't blast right away, and warriors constantly pull aggro with provoke.

or ranger, who pulls early and then has to avoid drawing aggro from his damage later.

it's the general concept of either you want the monster on you, or you want to hurt it with the monster after everyone else :P

Thf/nin is the best choice and at higher lvls ninja sub will save you many times but thf/rng is also fun

Why thief?  There are better classes for a noob.  I found that the funnest job, to me, was a Dragoon/Samurai.  Spammin' penta thrusts was way cool.  But if you go dragoon and sub samurai you dont want to do that intill your lvl 60.  Samurai is completely useless before 60.  So basically start at warrior then go to thief, then go to dragoon so ur dragoon/thief than level dragoon to 60 and then sub samurai, thats what I did and it was really fun.

FFXI is a game, and a game is a game so play it the way you like it.  You can build a party with any of those combinations.  But, if you really want me to choose, I'd have to go with Thf/Nin, just cuz double daggers looks cool...and so many cool people use double daggers, not X-2 Rikku, I mean Assassin Matthew from Fire Emblem, or Aoshi from Kenshin (though....kodachis arent daggers).

The only reason why i want to be a thief is i have heard that it makes good money and you are very agile and is fun to be. image Pluse i have head alot of people start out as warriors, so i am gonna be diffrent.image

Well, Thieves have high evasion, paladins are good with shields and ninjas are good with parry.  So, if you work with ninja, you'd have both high evasion and parrying, plus double daggers are very nice.  The problem with being a thief is that nobody invites you to parties, which really sucks, so you have to make your own.  Plus, if you have a bad tank, they won't help you as much as they should.  Gil finder isn't that great though, but as a War/Thf, I can honestly say the EVA bonus is very very nice.

Yeah i know with thief not alot of people will invite me to parties. But i am a more of a play by myself person. But i have a friend in school who said i can already be in his party and everything so im kinda set image. Double dagger would look nice though image.

Soloing doesn't work for long, once you hit level 10 partying is the only way to go.  Head to Valkurm til 20 then to Qufim til 25-30.

Yeah, I have heard that to get anywhere fast you need to be in a party. And if you go solo then everything will take a lot longer to complete. Oh and i have another question, (if you don't mind answering) If you play on PS2 will it play it off your phone line and charge you like if you where talking on it, or will it run it off your internet like AOL for instance.?

If you want to solo i would recommend becoming Beastmaster.
Mages can't solo, but if you don't like Bst you could use Rng and solo for a big part of the game killing worms in various places.
Thf means you will have to pull in many parties, if you don't like pulling this is no job for you, hope i helped
and if there is anything you need to know ask me

In order to be connected on the internet via a aphone line and aol, you need to register sn for an extra 5 bucks a month and it will tie up your phone line.  My suggestion is to go with DSL or Cable Broadband, which will not tie up your phone line and will not cost you extra to play on the PS2, plus there is no or minimal lag with DSL and absolutly none, unless you are using a router, with Cable/Broadband.

    Brena (Alexander)
    San d'Oria

    Level 52 Red Mage
    Level 44 Dragoon
    Level 40 Samurai
