Considering playing... need advice...

Allrighty. Sooo I'm strongly considering buying Everquest 2 and getting a hold of some of those pre paid cards seeing as how there is probably no other way to do it for me. I wanted to ask all the regular Everquest 2 players about a few things before I buy, especially since there really is no demo or anything that would give me a good idea as to how the flow of gameplay is, how long it takes to progress through skills, and so on, so saying this I just wanted to throw some questions in the air, and if anyone would like to take a stab at them I would appreciate the wisdom :p

What was your learning curve for the game?

Is the gameplay fun, exciting, alluring and addictive, and does it convince you that you are not wasting your money every month?

And finally, what parts of this game make it great, and what parts make it not so great.

Again I just really want to get an idea for this game so that I dont waste my money, and any kind of help would be very appreciated. Thanks :)

The learning curve is pretty easy. I would say you would have just about everything down in about 30min. to an hour.

The gameplay imo is exciting. They made the combat fast paced so you really have to stay on top of what is going on. You'll also have plenty of options at your hands while in combat. So far for me I have felt that bit of addiction. I find myself wanting to play quite often.

There are pros and cons with the game. One of the pros is the amount of content that the game has. I have yet to feel like I had nothing to do. The community has been awesome so far as well. You arent likely to find a load of asshats in this game. I also found the crafting to be fun and interactive. Some of the cons come into play if you are a big solo fan. You can solo well until about maybe lvl 15 then it's mostly a group game after that. I prefer grouping so it works out for me, but other people like solo.

Overall I would have to say to try the game for yourself. Some really enjoy it and some don't find it as fun. If you like group play and lots of content, give it a try.

Great thanks again, i know it's kinda annoying when the noobs have no idea whats going on but its good to know there are people who can help. I'll give it a try, as soon as I get some kinda dough together. I was wondering if you would also maybe be able to recommend any other similar games to try. I know there is a huge selection out there, but like I said I'm quite new to the genre, let alone particular games so it is a little harder getting into the right kinda stuff. I do like the group/team thing, I've played Guild Wars and the team aspect is a crucial part of the game, but what I also like about it is that it gives you that opportunity to go solo, and... get killed very quickly :P

I'm playng and loving the game.

The learning curve is actually pretty easy, mostly because of the island of refuge which is for all the newbies. it does a good job of teaching you the ropes.

i LOVE the combat system. special abilities/spells galore. It's not only very exciting and fun IMO, its just plain awesome to look at.

i think what makes this game great is the community, the crafting system, and just the overall presentation. as saigon said it does have its con's, but what doesnt? i love it. the environments are big and beautiful, theres never a shortage of things to do. its just fun. period. also, it helps that the servers are really really stable and there is virtually no lag at all.

Well thanks to everyone for their help.. I know it's not the greatest idea to ask someone for help on a forum, because no matter where you go, everyone will have a different opinion, biased or not. Not everyone likes one certain game and that's pretty understandable, but I can definitely get a good idea on how to proceed when trying to figure out which game will be great for me. I was surprised to see how much depth is involved in EQ2, and aside from the information I got from these forums, I have also head a lot of good things about it and that it is a good game despite a few "shortcomings" whatever those may be. More than once I've been walking past the game box and wanted to pick it up :) Now I can have a better idea of which game to blow my mulah on. Thanks again and hopefully soon I'll be picking up a copy of the game, maybe I can find out if one of my buddies has it so i can fool around with the game a bit, but i have a pretty good feeling I'm going to be picking this game up.
