And I want the real skinny on my question, because it's the one thing I can't accept in any mmo so here it goes:
I have read a lot of bad stuff about hacking in DFO; I don't mean the macro cheating for skilling up, which I've read seems to be somewhat fixed by the increased pve exp patch they put in. I mean is there legitmate hacks in this mmo.
I am seriously contemplating investing the cash for the deal they have atm, but I would also like some current players' opinions on whether there are hacks in this mmo.
/much appreciated

Well isnt there hacks in every mmo??? lol well yes there is hacks on the game, but sense ive been playing for over a month i havent seen any hackers yet so idk there probley is. But if i were u i would still invest ur money into the game its totally worth it. If u do end up playing and if u deside to go human or dwarf hit me up with a pm i can probley get u into my guild, we have a city and a little city that im at atm herbing.
I think you will find, Rondo, that in any game (and I am only just starting tonight) that the # of cheaters is usually far less than the normal players, and eventually they get caught, bored or alienated.
The only game this doesn't hold true in atm is Aion.
I've only come across one in almost two months of playing.

yo guys wat races are u???? and are u guys in a clan?
Every MMO has hacks. Hacks in a PVP-focused title is rough. Smart hackers are almost impossible to detect, since they will operate within the limits and usually without witnesses.
DFO's client integrity is not the best around. But the problem looks controlled. Maybe because of low population. Hard to abuse when people know each other closely.
But I think this is not a dealbreaker. Could be much worse.
I think you should click on the clink in my sig to purchase....
haha had to.
I've come across one or two since launch. One was a teleport hacker who I kept coming at me and kept teleporting away when I got him to low health. Did this for a while until he was banned cause I reported him during this. Was kind of fun tbh.
Bots in aion are gettin banned left and right atm after the patch. Also yea anygame you play now will have cheaters. It comes with the genre. I'd say wait for a free trial there never will be on so if you got 50 to throw down go for it.
I don't play, but everything I've been hearing is that this was a big problem a few months ago, but it's been cleaned up for the most part.

Little hard to make this out, but are you saying there never will be a DFO free trial? That would be nuts. I think they should get one out by christmas.
Could you define a legitamite hack as opposed to an illegitamite one? I'm going to assume that when you say legit hack you mean a real hack that exists? Not a hack that doesn't work?
Well from what I read at launch there was a fair amount of speed hacking, teleport hacking, radar hacking and all kinds stuff going on. What I know is that at some point Aventurine got their shit together and banned many of them in a crack down. I've been playing a week and haven't experienced and form of hacking, my clan mates tell me it doesn't happen now and wasn't as bad as forums made it out to be at launch. It seems many that screamed "Hacker" were people with sour grapes after getting bitch slapped in PvP.
If worries about hacking is the one thing holding you back from trying DFO then I would advise you to try it out. Fear of rampant hacking and expliotiing held me back for a long time until I got tired of waiting for an MMORPG (over a year) and said "bugger it" and took the plunge. I haven't regreted it so far.

I've heard that the only hack still used is a radar hack, otherwise I'm pretty sure they banned all hackers earlier.

Retired: EQ2, CoH, Tabula Rasa, SWG, Warhammer, AoC
Waiting For: SWTOR, APB
Love(d): Tabula Rasa, SWG, World Of Warcraft, Age of Conan
I know that one of my clan-mates is working hard to level his new character, because he used an "undetectable" hack and got banned less than two weeks ago. There are still hackers in Darkfall, however they are being banned daily, which is outstanding.
It's great for the game that AV are really putting some serious effort into wiping out cheating, starting first and foremost with hackers. Gold sellers have a very hard time of it, too. It is so good to see a game again where GM's can actually be in the world. Funnier yet of course when they get ganked!
Thanks for all the replys. It sounds like the hacking that I had seen on Youtube, and readabout on the forums after launch, have been for the most culled.
I'm going to take the plunge!
Goodluck and dont forget to use someone's link to buy the game.
PM me for link.
use my link, its sexier
Welp, I made the leap today and landed in a big pile of pooh, but let me explain:
I installed the game. Patched the game. Loaded the game. All was fine. And then bam! Not more than 2-3 minutes of just being in the game, standing in the starting area, the red light on my video card turns on and the screen goes black and locks up. My video card was hot, hot, and did I say hot!
Ok so by now you're like oh, he has a shite card, wrong drivers, bad system, etc. Wrong, wrong, and wrong.
i7 2.66
GTX 295 EVGA latest 1907 drivers ( ya the ones that add SLI support specifically for Darkfall, among others)
6GB memory
blah blah...the werid thing is that I can play Aion, MW2, Crysis, WAW, DAO, etc for hours on end without my card getting hot. So what's the deal? I went to post this problem onthe tech forums (minus some of the colour provided here) but I haven't been sent privledges yet, so does anyone know any known issues with this overheat issue?
EDIT: This happens everytime I tried logging in afte reinstalling the game etc; however, I only did it a few times because my card would just get to hot and I shut it off as sson as it did to prevent any serious damage. I also loaded up Aion, MW2, and DAO immediately after this incident with my new Darkfall game and nada, nothing, no heat.

I have no ideea what this could be coming from. I havent seen this problem on here or the official forums in 8 months its been out.
Make a thread on official forums and ask around, sorry it screwed up your system
wow, there has to be some sort of software issue causing the card to either cycle way too much data and thus heat up or its turning off its fans for darkfall, which also makes no sense. you definitely dont want to burn it up till you know whats going on either way. things to try, previous driver versions, might be this new driver and darkfall are causing the card to turn off cooling when playing darkfall, might lose some fraction of performance to older versions but beats melting your gpu. if its not a driver game conflict im plum out of ideas as im not nearly tech savey as the tech support guys will be on the official game support area =D
Some clans have a lot of macroers, only like one or two have members that use speedhacks... and everyone AFK swims.
afk swimming is pointless now. the gains are incredibly slow. just fighting mobs will increase stats a billion times faster.
and to OP I been playing a few months on and off and never seen or even heard of anyone actually hacking. people just acuse people of hacking when they whine like in anygame.
macroing is a different story but thread is about hacking no macroing so lets not go there
My blog:
I just wanted to update this thread for what it's worth, because my post about my technical problems could be possibly construed as a slight against Darkfall.
I called EVGA and told them about my heat issue and they said to RMA that 295 GTX pronto; the card should never get that hot in any game, even if it only happened in one. In fact, the tech guy said it was probably just the first sign of something that would begin to show in other 3D intense games soon enough. So hey he's the tech guy and I RMA'd it and will eventually see if the new one works.
I called a buddy that just upgraded his vid card to a Radeon 5XXX (not sure which one) and he came over with his old card aa 260 GTS. And after installing this card I am playing Darkfall without a hitch at a steady 70+ FPS, no overheating!
GFX in this game are actually quite nice. Ok, well I need to get back to running from 3-4 goblins <cough> chasing down goblins. Having fun and I can safely say that it was the video card itself and not this game.
Glad you got it sorted Rondo, happy hunting

That is all up to you, I guess. I personally quit it after my first month. I gave it a shot and decided not to go further. Too many things wrong with it that will not be fixed. The all-pvp portion of the game really did bother me. My biggest complaint is when I casted a spell at an enemy an another player would get in front of the enemy to only be hit well they would come after you and kill you thinking you meant to hit them. That happened to me a lot and bothered me a lot. More I could say but I rather not. Try it if you want, but I passed.
