Hay, I've played this game for 5 days? well i must say it wasnt as good as i expected it to be.
The Graphics ar out-of-date!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sound bassicly, is HORRBILE! it truhly is. I dont see why many people play this game, while grpahics and the sound ar horrbile. they just ar. i would give a 2 1/2 for 'm both maybe a 3 1/2.
However the game-play is slightly better maybe hits the 4,5 because of the quests, professions.. but it still is hard, cuz same thing over and over. Like kill monster, kill another one, kill another, so on. to get some exp. That's frustrating? especially with these graphics, and sound.
this game just really is a booo booo, i mean cmon guys. Go play WoW, EQ2, those games r fantastic.

Theres a ton of stuff to do in UO but people now days just don't see the possiblities. You played for 5 days, grand so you didn't get heavy into crafting, magic, melee, champ spawns, fishing, boating, treasure hunting, dungeoneering, PvP, and just about anything else you can name in the game.
Sure WoW and EQ2 might have up to date graphics and sound but UO has staying power. What game do you think is the father of modern graphic MMO's? thats right it was good old UO. Sure it might not be the best since EA has taken over but it still has 100 times more possiblities then any game on the market.
You want to solo you can. You want to group you can. You want to have private time in some outback woodland area to cyber with someone you met online....yep you can do that to, just try not to get caught
. Remember the saying they just don't build them like they used to....well they don't build MMO's like UO.

Sure, people nowadays care more about pixels rather than gameplay. For an 7 year old game, UO indeed had a great lack of graphic and sound compared to the new generation of computer game. People like you, who have been consumed by the beauty of pixels rather the content, will find UO is a bit boring. Just a little note, for 7 years UO is still a big game and considered a tough rival even by any new online games, what do you think that made UO like that? Go figure.
Oh, so you don't kill things and monsters in WoW to raise your level? Are you sure? Every online game offers pretty much the same idea, go whack the damn monsters if you want to raise your level. I play WoW, too cartoonish even I agree the land mass is great and good sound. EQ2 is just gay, bad PvP action.
UO is considered more than just an online game, it's a cult. But perhaps, newcomers like you won't ever got the whole idea. So, go play your barbie game then

Yeah WoW and eq2 do also lack at some (small points, eq maybe bigger:P) points, but its still always a better game then uo.
No the controls suck.
It's just not the sound and graphics about uo, but the horrible massive grinding, Yeah in WoW you have to slash some mobs to get a level, but it goes deeper then just that. adding nice graphics and sound make the hatred kill/mob/to/get a fkkin lvl much easyr in WoW or Eq. UO does not has that, you just realise with what for crap-game you ar really dealing and be frustrated grinding on a game with no cool graphics or sound, you get a quest.... bla bla, kil that gaint that, woah i feel great.. like a legendary warrior stuck in a 2d world with a low ammount of pixels, isnt that great?
If you walk you dont feel like ur walking just hitting the mouse to get some movement on that big screen

You know, there's more to games than graphics.
It may be old-fashioned in rphics, but the gameplay is still great. And that's why UO stays and the others disappear
In two or three years, UO will probably be a goner, true enough, but probably Eq 2 and hopefully WoW will be gone too.

Furthermore, being the "father" of modern graphic MMO's today doesn't necessarily make a game good. I could be one of the greatest painters in the history of mankind, have developed a cure for cancer, and brought peace to the middle east, but if my father is a smelly, bitter, Neo-Nazi pedophile, you're not going to say "YOU GOTTA RESPECT HIS OLD MAN. There are a ton of really horrible MMOs in the market now with plenty of people playing. They all have "staying power." But they still suck.
No, just the fact that despite it's out of date, it's still one of the better MMorpgs.

Um, you just compared UO to a smelly, bitter, Neo-Nazi pedophile. I think that analogy needs a little work. And if you're going to be picky, how about giving the grandfather credit to the original NWN on AOL? It came out in '93, a good 3 years before M59.
But, to get back on topic, UO needs a new engine and graphics to survive. If EA wasn't run by complete morons, they would have invested all that money they spent on UO2 and UX:O into the original UO...
Well poster, congratulations on missing the entire point of the game. Ultima Online has grinding? Since when? Exp?!?! It certainly doesn't have exp.
It is obvious to anyone who started on UO that you lack the mental perspective to understand what you actually do in UO. You're logging onto that game with a mentality smelt in the fires of grind-machine games such as EeverQuest, and you're totally msising the trees for the woods.
I mean, really, grind? For starters, all of the tools given to the player in Ultima Online are not meant as the end, they're meant as a means to the end. Meaning, in the spirit in which the game was created, it is a sandbox and you'll need to find an objective other than fighting random monsters expecting for something to pop up on your screen with a hand-out.
Sometimes I wish they would shut down the UO servers, I am tired of hearing about all of the new ways EA is fudging it up. And the MMO community is saturated with people like this original poster who can't fathom the potential of an open-ended game like UO.
Even if someone remade Ultima Online to modernize it, these little pups who have been sucking on the teet of EQ-clone003 will regard it as something foreign and new, instead of a return to the old as it should be. And the thought that Ultima Online is now so old, and so out of mind that roughly 75% of the community wouldn't even know what to do with themselves in it is very saddening.
Listen Asmodeeus, seven years ago, Ultima Online didn't even have those pathetic "quests" that you refer to or those "professions" of ninja, samurai, necromancer, and paladin. Nor did it have any of the neon crap, or bug mounts. It didn't even have any "combat moves." You turned on attack and jousted with simplistic swings. It was a better game then. if you can't guess why then just uninstall the thing and move along.

Graphic sucker like you won't understand the real meaning of online game or the community. People like you only loves pretty things, nice sky layer, running water, and then grinding your character along the way until you are bored to death. Just admit it that you don't give a crap about community or game content. You will buy and play any game as long as it's 3D and pretty for your eyes

UO is/was a great game
I haven't played for 3 years but I played it for over 4 years, Sure the grapichs are bad, but the content is great! 
Graphics are no substitute for gameplay. UO has its issues, dated graphics being one of the larger ones, but it's still a fun game. I'd rather play a game with old, shabby graphics and rewarding, fun gameplay than a game with slick graphics and nothing to back it up.
I also don't understand the logic of someone posting in a forum like this to tell people who are dedicated players that the game sucks. Don't you think the people who play this game have made their own minds up as to whether or not the game is worth playing?

This is the second "your game sucks" thread I've come across today on a game specific board. Why do these guys post this shit? They know that it's not going to change anyone's opinion and just piss off the regular community for that game. Or maybe that's the whole point.
Reading the original post, I got the impression that this poster is about twelve years old and feels the need to piss people off in order to get any sense of self worth. Oh look, I made all those people mad. I can affect my environment!!!! Yeah..... good for you...... en stuff.
UO is a great game all around. Yes, it seriously needs a graphics overhaul. UO is the only MMORPG that I've encountered where you can improve your character without combat and that puts it way out in front of the compitition IMHO. Yes, the skill system promotes grinding but find me one MMORPG that doesn't have a grind and you get a Bozo Button. Even WoW and EQ2 have grinding, lots of it!!!
You don't like UO? Got a quick solution: don't play it. And while you're busy NOT playing UO, you can keep you opinion off of the UO board. By all means, let others know how you feel. Just do it on the general discussion board where you might get a more receptive audience.

UO and EQ1 had a magic all this new mmorpg don't hold a dime to.Pity those starting mmorpg after this 2 missed it or just can't understand it.
I have played in UO since last November, to be specific. I get thru the graphic and sound.
Do you know what I found? GREAT game! System is complicated, and in the same time easy to understand because it is LOGIC.
Game took my heart, and I don't want it back.
Sure thing! I would like to see BETER graphic, sound. But maybe some of the %(#@$&;@ will never disturb my play, and let me live with ALMOST no hacker community.

I don't see any relevance between adding graphics and sound would make a leveling much easier. And it doesn't depend on how pretty the freaking orcs in your screen that makes your stupid character would be able to kill it, matter of fact, it might the one who gives you a bitch slap.
Don't feel like you're walking in UO? Hell man, wft you're talking about. Of course it has different touch because WoW will allow you to zoom in and out. This is just silly whine from a third grade sissy. Just go and play FairyLand then. I'm sure people like you would enjoy staying here looking at funky pinky graphics and cute monsters

That's not all i can say. I do understand the meaning of an online game, yes the comminuty is important - without it this wouldnt be an mmorpg. 'people like you' no.. i give about a good game, not just one aspect as you state there 'aslong as its 3d its fine' i wouldnt enjoy just looking, being able to move for an 3d glass or something on your screen, doesnt sounds like fun.... but you have to say just only the graphics in Eq2 (on high quility) for the first time make you mouth go open.. a game would be an good one if its good in any aspect. Ultima isnt, it lacks in sound, graphics. variety of quests
It surely can be a fun game 'even text based games can show some aspects of fun, the thrill on the reply you ar going to get - lol '', even thought we ar in an ' next ' generation of games already.. im just saying there r now company providing the customers better games this now. but you do have games with slick graphics + bascking things up, hehehee i dont know why begon this thread either

well.. actually, to tell you the truth.. now im 18 and i started on my 11th, 12th? with my first RPG (baldursgate) fastly after that.. i got found of the mmorpg world.. 'Dransik' stole my heart........
Well, I've tried EQ, SWG, WoW, surely the graphic is good, but it will only last for a while. Seeing the same pretty graphic won't make people stay in the game. The content is one more important one, the basic essence of a game. But I bet you prefer to play an eye candy game, a pretty one, even just to bash some stupid orcs all over and over again just because you like the look of the sky or the running water.
