Darkfall: "Conquer the Seas" To Launch Next Week*

MikeBMikeB Community ManagerAdministrator RarePosts: 6,555

The next major update to Darkfall was intended to launch a bit sooner, according to a post by Tasos on the official Darkfall forums, but some finishing touches had to be put on the thing and well, it's better late than never, right?!

The "Conquer the Seas" update is now set to launch next week, though Tasos warns there is still a possibility they could miss the date, but even if they do, it would only result in a short delay of a few days.

The original announcement can be viewed here.

You can find out more information about the Conquer the Seas update in two spotlight posts on the official forums here and here.

We have been getting little sneak peaks of the features in the expansion via spotlight articles on their forums. Here's the unofficial expansion notes that someone put together with most of the features on the expansion :

    http://forums.darkfallonline.com/showthread.php?t=218517

In short, it balances magic by adding global cooldowns on spells and gives melee + archery love with special skills and abilities. There is a complete monster AI revamp as well and they are adding more house plots (800 in all) with the start of localized banking. At your house you can have a vendor to sell your goods that random people can come and buy, and they cannot be killed. And they are adding wildlife so fill up the world a little more, which will drop mats for crafting if killed. Click the link for more detailed notes.

On top of all that, they claimed to make thousands of fixes on the game. Sounds pretty impressive; I hope they can pull it off.

I love darkfall, but lets be honest, this is the game that was advertised, maybe they ran out of money and needed to launch in a incomplete state. IMHO though it still is the best pvp game out there compared to other mmorpgs, but it still needs more content to be the best mmorpg.

Aren't we still waiting for the original game to launch? LOL

The game is ok, the problem is the playerbase.  They drive new players away.  Probably the worst I have ever seen.  It seems that every asshat that has ever plagued a mmo has roosted on their servers.  True there are some nice players and guilds that try to help, but they are few and far between.

A message to those who are curious about the game... my actual in-game experiences have been quite different from the regurgitated crapola in this guy's post.

I assume you never met the NEW guild, which is a considerable effort from the community to gather new players in the game to learn and play?

This expansion has slot machines, that's all I needed to sub to Darkfall... no, but almost there.

Basically what this guy is saying is that, Well I played darkfall for about 1-3 months and I judge the 5 people that talked back to me the playerbase of darkfall, and I judge the forums as actual conversations in game.

Lol when was the last time u played, we got subbed forums now and the playerbase in game is very good sportmanship except for the random person that is below 15 yr olds.

I mean lets be honest most of the clan discussions are discussions about taking peoples cities that they worked hard for. Of course you will have upset people.

Alot of the playerbase can not take losing something they built.

Darkfall is considered hardcore for this reason IMHO( and full loot).  The player base is exactly what the game is atm, it is very pvp extensive.

While I do agree I would like things to change, the player base is whats keeping the game interesting and fun for me.

But I do agree we need more carebears, because you cant build a great pvp game without the sheep. Just like EVE.

I agree with Cecropia, I'v been playing a little over a week in, and haven't been ganked once, tho others I know can't say that, I guess I'm over cautious. I've found more friendly players than @sshats so far. Not to say that the friendly's won't kill me at some point, that's the nature of the game.

I've been killed solo almost 20 times, lol. Some people would chat me up afterwards for a laugh, or some would let me know what I did wrong. Some were indeed morons that still at least got my pulse raised up during an unexpected fight.

Asshats are all over, welcome to the internet.

It's the same reason (even more so with the net obviously) that people act all big 'N tuff when they are behind the wheel of their 3000 pound car with all the doors locked. How come I never meet any strangers face to face who want to act up like that, lol.

One thing is for certain.  The memories are vivid and will last a long time.  Like when my two hour old character was stepping away from the newbie zone with my only mount.  I tried to kill a few skeletons and was jump by two higher level characters.  They got me down and I jumped on my mount and they just needed to hit me one more time.  I succeeded in getting away and never before have a felt a rush like that.

Or the time I was fishing and the red dragon flew over, casting it's ominous shadow on me and started chasing me, spitting fireballs in which I took refuge under a huge hole under a tree.

Or the time, last night, I was working on a reptilian mob when a blue guy comes.  Was wary of him and minding my health when we both started killing mobs.  Well he then starts killing me, but doesn't gank me (so he doesn't go red).  I make the short trek back to my body and he is still there and I am hiding behind a rock resting up when I see four reds light this guy up.  What goes around comes around.  It was quite the sight to see.

So they're adding wildlife now, huh? That's funny. They said they implemented it in a beta patch back in January (http://www.tentonhammer.com/node/62067), and then added even more wildlife spawns a few days after that. The amount of lies and deceit surrounding this game is simply astounding.

"This new type of AI will be roaming throughout the world and react quite differently then their aggressive counterparts. We have also been told that those will be quite numerous and spread in much bigger radius and areas not limited by any artificial camp range.
The idea behind these new type of AI is of course to add to the immersion while the same time creating new ways of gathering resources."

"CONFIRMED the wildlife creatures that we mentioned in a previous spotlight article will be introduced to the game with the upcoming expansion. The wildlife creatures of Darkfall will be non aggressive and they will be found in every corner of Agon
Running away is the only defense they have, so expect to do some proper hunting.
Once killed, these creatures will provide the aspiring hunters with resources like leather and meat, essentially becoming a new resource gathering node of sorts. Also some of these animals, depending on their actual real life habits, will form packs and follow a pack leader around. Those packs will of course scatter and run away when they are attacked.
The monsters of the world will interact with these animals as well. Some will attack and kill them, while others will protect and even heal them."

In January they added more mob spawns. The "wildlife" system was withheld from the original patch to work on the broken AI.

The game has added and changed spawns every day since release. For instance my favorite oak lord spawn suddenly started spawning some tough Cestral mobs last month.

What people don't understand is that the "Wild Life" is adding wild animals and possibly NPC that roam villages and cities.

It reminds me of Far Cry 2 how they implemented wild life. You could sneak up on some enemies, but if the gazelles detected you they would flee and alert your your enemies of your presence.

I don't know what kind of crap you have been reading, but everything AV  has stated about  Darkfall has been truthful if not, then delayed. True this contend was suppose to be out in early October and probably should have been in the release, but the facts are this game was created by roughly 40 people and has accomplished more in 6 months then hundreds of other titles will ever hope to see.

  • khaelfkhaelf Member Posts: 73

I know what wildlife is (it always meant the same thing; there was no mention of it being withheld, all the creatures mentioned in the patchnotes I linked to in my earlier post can be found in the game, but they behave as regular monsters), I'm also aware of all the changes made by Aventurine, as I've been following the game pretty closely since the very first information about it surfaced on the web, played it since very early stages of beta up until the opening of NA-1. I doubt you've been around for that long, and so I find it understandable that you may mistakenly perceive Aventurine as a professional company represented by trustworthy and responsible community managers and PR specialists. The reality is, they've been constantly lying about release dates, features, fixes, and patches after as well as prior to the game's release. They just like to cover all their bullshit with a layer of sugar icing. The sooner you realize it, the better.
