I just found out that Lineage 2 and City of Heroes are both made by NCSoft (sorry kind of a newbie to gaming, didn't know till just recently). Which of these are better in your opinion and why?

Because Lineage 2 is probably the worst MMO I've ever played.

Since you mentioned NCSoft and have an interest in Lineage 2 or CoH -- My advice is to wait for Guild Wars or Tabula Rasa.
I enjoyed Lineage 2 and City of Heroes simultaneously during beta phases, but, when both games were realeased they completely lost my interest. I found absolutely no replay value in either at all.
Guild Wars and Tabula Rasa, from my understanding, are taking a slightly different path by including the core content and features I found lacking in my previous NCSoft ventures.
That is just my opinion though.

Thats a good reason.
But seriously, go with CoH!!!!!!!
I asked about Lineage 2 on the boards and someone replied with 'you can ride dragons', now that sounds cool. But why do you think Lineage 2 is the worst MMO ever?

Imho i would go for COH. Heard it gets boring after like 6 months or so though.
Lineage 2 sucks, heavy lvl grinding. Sucking quest (very basic) and nothing original in this game.

What are the quests like in CoH?

Very repetative after awhile.
Not very deep or "epic" either I should add.
CoH...
Upsides - Better customization, more fast paced combat, fun missions, good customer support.
Downsides - Shallow as hell/you get bored after about 2 weeks, no equipment.
Lineage 2...
Upsides - PvP, large scale sieges/wars, bigger world, better music/sound, no zoning, raisable/ridable dragons, large scale boss raids, equipment.
Downsides - Griefers (although only really a problem at lower levels), long grind, adena farmers/botters (although very few and far between), bad customer support.
As you can see, Lineage 2 has more upsides then CoH, while at the same time having more downsides. Why? Because CoH is so damn shallow >_< I couldnt take a piss in CoH without it overflowing... My advice, if you can handle PvP and a grind, go with L2...
Also, dont pay much to many of the L2 bashers... alot of them don't seem to understand that the game is in quite a different place from where it was in Beta (which is all that most bashers have to go off of)... since then it has already undergone 3 LARGE scale patches (with a 4th on the way) as well as countless small ones... not to mention the adena farmers are practically gone now...
L2 =
CoH = Kiddie pool... it's so friggin shallow >_<
[btw] I personally own, and have held subscriptions to both of these games...

LMAO - nice.
I personally wouldn't piss on Lineage 2 if its teeth were on fire.
I also wasn't very attracted to the game when I saw the fan-costume-contest-winner-picture with the 300 pound heifer in the elf costume on the front page while entering my info and clicking on the login button a hundred times while waiting for congested login server(s?) to login.

CoH's quests sound real bad and noone mentioned anything else to do in CoH so I don't know why I'd buy it. On the other hand Lineage 2 sounds good with it's fair share of problems but I dunno if I'm a PvP kind of person because I don't think I'm going to want to do this whole grind thing so is there like areas where I can play without PvPing?

Those 2 games hardly compare.
CoH quest system is a side aspect to hunting in missions(and have a goal) or hunting outdoor. If quests are a MUST for you, then CoH wont be great. If you just need a quest but dont care if a tremendous thing or a basic easy thing, then the system is perfect!
Personnally I love to have a goal, no matter how repetitive, I love hunting with a goal, a reason. I was enjoying working my faction up in EQ if the XP was nice as well.
PvP will be implemented in Issue 4(Issue 3 was released for X-mas), then it will be CoV...
CoH is where I play atm, great fun, more customisation then in L2.
Dont know for L2, enforced PvP was a major turn off and I was unable to consider the game for a full minute.

L2 sounds a little better to me then CoH but alot of things in L2 like the bots who attack you all the time sound pretty bad. Personally I just bought EQ2 (my first game ever) because people said it was an okay game and I'm sure they don't call it EverCrack for a reason. I'll probably try CoV (which is City of Villians I found out, go me) when it comes out unless it requires CoH then I'll have to buy it. Maybe if L2 gets its bad stuff out I'll check it out.

Ppl who say CoH sux most likely play WoW.... actually, ppl who saything about any other game besides WoW prolly plays WoW. Any game gets dull after about six months. It's what you make of it when you hit the six month mark.
Im gonna be honest with you with my opinion: Don't by either.
COH tends to be incredibly repetitive. The instanced "buildings" or "caves" are all basically the same with the same looking punks. The quests have little variety and there is no equipment. Customization of looks is pretty good but as soon as i hit 14 I stopped playing
L2... I quit on the first day. I beta tested it and still didnt have fun.
Id seriously recommend you to wait for DnL, or check out some other games like AO, EQ2, WoW.
I would suggest COH from my point of view. Even though I stopped playing it myself it was a great game when you begin. A grand feeling of being actually "Super" when you start because you run around kicking butt very easily agaisnt things your lvl. The cuztimaztion was top notch also (even though there were plenty of costume repeats to macth thier favorites), but you can look very different if you spend your time on your costume, and with this setting it is fun to make a good background for character. Also the powers have very good fx and are always fun to see when you blast a foe with pure energy or swing your katana upwards right through thier face. Also running around the city alone can be an adventure because sometimes you can end up just trying to survive as you go through the streets at superspeed, or fly high above the sky and land infront of your group with somewhat of a fun entrance. I also enjoyed that fighting in air was encouraged due to a increase in a defense, and provided something more to flying. There is however a slight risk of gimping your character, which is what happend to me because I wasnt really thinking hehe. Still there is a way to reslect your skills.
As for what I hear about L2, beggining it is a very hard grind and a very annoying pvp setting because of the noob killing sprees. The grind is also contested many times in chats and is said to be very slow, but the graphics and character models seem to be of a good grade and the PVP is good at upper lvls from what is said. However, this game is in open pvp.
So I would cast my vote for CoH
