I'm new to gaming and I've never really played much games before. Sure I've played your classic Zelda for the NES but that was along time ago. I'm really interested in todays MMORPGs such as City of Heroes, Starwars Galaxies, Lineage II and so on. I've never played an MMORPG before but i'm heading over to the game store tomorrow to buy one but I need some help on deciding. I'm looking for one where the quests aren't very repetitive, decent graphics, decent community, guild system, basicly a game that a new game like myself maybe insterested in. Thanks alot in advance everyone.

I would reccommend some of the following:
World of Warcraft
Final Fantasy XI
Everquest II
-------------
But if u dont like "downtime" then u might not want EQ 2...since there a little more grind....WoW is a little easier with grind with a lot of Quest to do.I'd go w/WoW....

Whats the "grind"? Sorry, don't really know much gamer lingo or anything. I'll check out Final Fantasy XI, Everquest, and World of Warcraft. More opinions would be appreciated.

A grind or the act of grinding is when you hopelessly fall into a zombie like state and retentively quest/hunt/tradeskill over and over for the sole purpose of gaining experience to level up or mastering a skill or profession.
This is also known as the leveling treadmill which most games have a myriad of.
Then again that choice is ultimately made by the player and in some cases that is all some MMOs have to offer when you boil it down in a melting pot.

I should also mention that some games don't actually open up to the player before a certain level or tier
And... that if you pick a game where majority of the population is at the higher level you might find yourself not experiencing the highest level of immersion and entertainment because most of the players, the economy, and unfolding plot (if any) has moved beyond and out of your reach unless you do in fact grind like hell and ignore the actual gaming experience.
Yea,meaning, you have to sit there and kill monsters over and over and over untill you reach level 15 or whatever to be able to get to the "Best part".The "best part" is whatever the game offers,in alot of games, its PvP or GvG (Player vs. Player) (Guild vs Guild).
PvP=When you can fight another actual player other than a NPC (Non Player Character).PvP is a very fun thing in my opinion.
GvG=Guild vs Guild is when 2 guild declare war on each other,or battle one another.A guild is a kind of "team/small kingdom" type thing, that containts many players. In Guild Wars/Battles,the 2 (or however many) Guilds fight one another, and depending on which games,it can get pretty big.I know Shadowbanes GvG use to be the BEST with battles up to 50 persons per side! It's great in my opinion!
NvN(RvR)=Nation vs Nation(Relam vs Relam)...in games such as Dark Age of Camelot, you can only battle people that arnt in your nation, but belong to the other side. This means everyone in your Nation is your friend, and everyone in the other nation is a enemy. This is also found in World of Warcraft.

Have you linked your personal likings to any specific genres or are you willing to try anything based upon hearsay?
The only released mmo I would recommend is Worlds of Warcraft. It has done the best at eliminating irritating portions of mmo's. All the other mmo's suffer from the level grind, and if your new; the level grind will most likely make you never to want to play mmo's again.

I've been playing CoH, didn't get a copy of WOW & not sure I will until they get over the current server issues - oh and when they start selling the game again!
What's the deal with AO being free? I played it like 3-4 years ago & was ok.
BTW I just noticed this game Roma Victor
Link is to the features list, there are no levels & cool features list, they have virtual currency instead of subscriptions - not sure if it's a good thing or not?

Yeah Roma Victor looks very interesting.
Game is accurately modelled on the Roman era circa 150 AD.
Combat is also real-time making it much more exciting than "normal" mmorpgs. There seems to be lots of PvP as well as PvE. Although the graphics don't seem to be uber, could be something ou should check out on release. It will be interesting for you to play EQ2 (as i am btw) and then play a totally diferent type of mmorpg.
Enjoy!
