Final Fantasy XIV: "Campaign Code" Not Beta Key After All

Those looking to gain access to the Final Fantasy XIV beta with their purchase of FFXIII are unfortunately in for a bit of disappointment.

Previously, we reported on the translation of a few scans from Japanese magazine Shounen Jump that indicated there would be a FFXIV tie-in for customers who purchased first run copies of the game, with what was largely speculated to be access to the game's beta test.
We have now discovered that the "Campaign Code" included with Japanese first-run copies of FFXIII will simply be a "secret in game item". Players will be able to redeem the item for their FFXIV accounts once the code is inputted into a special site when the game goes live sometime next year.
Sorry, folks. No beta for you!

This is one of those times I feel like something could have been translated better, "Campaign Code"? That undoubtedly makes sense in Japanese culture for something that gives you a single item, but it doesn't make much sense in English.
Campaign Code does make me feel like it should be something to redeem an entire campaign of sorts. This better be a good item. :<

Real life brings repetition and pointlessness too. The only thing real life offers is Great graphics. Its kinda expensive too and way to dependent on the cash shop. Totally pay to win as well. No thank you. Ill stick to my games.

SE is not responsible for translations of a third-party magazine reporting a rumor that has been incorrectly/misleadingly translated by a site known for incompetent "journalists" (i.e. mmorpg.com).
That being said, if you bought the game solely for a guaranteed pass to the beta, based on the aforementioned information, you deserve any burn you get.
Personally? I've never had a problem getting into betas I want to just by doing my work to find the contact info for the relevant department and contacting them with what may as well be a resume, as far as my gaming, technical, and testing background.

Oh well, I'm still gonna buy FFXIII anyway cuz I'm a fanboy like that, hurray!
I'm a dork like this, but I have to correct you:
Shounen Jump isn't a gaming magazine. It's a Weekly manga publication.

I also heard that too, but I don't see why it would matter much.
Because FFXIII is 360 + PS3 only, not PC. The "FFXIV beta is PC only" rumor is also far more solid than the "hey we heard FFXIII might come with entry to the FFXIV beta" rumor (even using the article author's wording, let alone common sense.)
Point is, if the beta is going to be PC only, why the hell would they include a code to get into it in a NON-PC game? Answer: they wouldn't.
