What is your favorite MMO company?

I personally like NCSOFT, because they are diverse. Why?

MMO's Made or will be made by NCSOFT

-Lineage 1: fantasy; I have always wanted to play this! heard GREAT reviews from gamers. Saying it was the best mmo they have played, but it is kind of outdated. THIS GAME STILL HAS A TON of players playing it! www.lineage.com

-Lineage 2: fantasy; pvp, VERY political which is very fun! AMAZING graphics!(CASTLE SEIGES RULE) www.lineage2.com

-Guild Wars: fantasy; Centered on pvp, not just lvl based. Free mmorpg(only have to pay for cd and expansions but can play without expansions!) www.guildwars.com

-City of Heros: Super Heros! First ever mmorpg that I have heard of that has super heros!!!   www.coh.com

-City of Villians: Made this another mmo, because it is basicly is. Every super hero has a villian! PVP!!! www.cityofvillians.com

-Auto Assult: CAR MMO! Uses havoic engine(I think used by Half-Life 2). lol, I have never played a car mmorpg yet. www.autoassault.com

-Tabula Rasa: This game looks sooo weird but soo interesting! It looks medieval, but at the same time futuristic! I like the cool things you do at the beginning! www.playtr.com

-To find information on what you can/will do in this game go to www.plaync.com and click on the game! I found A LOT of useful information here!!! Especially read the Tabula Rasa one! It caught my eye!

-MMORPGS currently being made by NCSoft that I am interested in are Tabula Rasa, AutoAssault, and City of Villians!

-In conclusion: NCSoft is a beyond amazing company designed to make mmorpgs for most types of gamers.image

First of all, I hate the Lineage series.
Lineage: Bad graphics (need to say i love UO 2D graphics), laggy, poor variety of classes, customization...wheres the customization?

Lineage 2: Dark Elves are played by men ::::16::, horrible economy, grind fest, boooooooooooooring

City of Heroes: Great customization, good graphics, good combat system....BUT repetitive, it isnt immersive, no PvP

    Guild Wars: Competitive and fun

Auto Assault: Weird but sounds fun

Tabula Rasa: Richard Garriott? I gave it a 10 already

NC Soft is a good company but you forgot Turbine

Anyone have a favorite mmo company, they would like to share about? Turbine didn't they make Asheron's Call? I have never played that game, but I play the second one. I want to play the first one though, because I heard it was A LOT better. Please state why you like the company you like.image

Asheron´s Call is a classic, but its nearly dead.
Turbine is now developing Middle Earth Online and Dungeons & Dragons Online.
Both games are going to replace the Asherons Call series.
Middle Earth Online doesnt appeal to me, it sounds too simplistic, but im looking forward D&D Online

Turbine is releasing early this year two expansions. One for Asherons Call, to be called AC: Throne of Destiny and for AC2: Legions.

They are also developing MEO and D&D.

One player's great game is another players derisive snort!

    You're welcome. ::::01::

NCSoft would probably be my favorite company. Now don't get me wrong, Lineage 2 flat out sucked. The game sucked, the support sucked... everything about it sucked.

But aside from Lineage 2, NCSoft has made some quality games, with original ideas.

City of Heroes - Original idea, and I've heard(and experienced) nothing but great support. Also, it probably had the best release in history.

Guild Wars - The no monthly fee is a neat idea, and will appeal to a large amount of people. The game itself may not be too original, but no monthly fee is.

Auto Assault - The only other MMO I know of to even try a car game is EA with MCO, and Auto Assault won't be anything like that(from what it sounds like). It sounds like more of a Twisted-Metal-type game, which hasn't been tested with MMOs yet.

I don't know much about Tabula Rusa, though.

Even Lineage 2 sounded it like it had some neat, original, ideas. Unfortunately very few of us got to a high enough level to test those ideas.

    And look at the competition...

SOE - Getting better, but they're going to have to get alot better to make us forget about SWG. :P Planetside was really the only thing close to being original.

Blizzard - WoW's support has been far from impressive through the first 2 months.

I haven't played enough of Turbine's or other company's games' to really comment on them.

I have to say NCSoft too...

not only do they have more MMORPG's (currently and upcoming) but they're trying new things, and simply making good games...

Not to mention they are the creators of the worlds 2 most popular MMORPG's.

One of the few companies today that are willing to step outside the typical tolken-esque fantasy box.

My favorite MMO company would be the one that keep's supporting it's game by making it better ,adding more and new content of thing's we want. a company that will not release a game, support it for awhile and then leave it to it's fate(thats wrong-sooo wrong), a company that will make good with it's subscriber's and keep them wanting more instead of what SOE and LucasArts did with SWG(I'm sorry I'll never forgive them until SOE and LucasArts hands SWG to someone else that will make thing's right again.)a company that will do something instead of nothing, until this company come's into existence. then I'll say who's my favorite MMO company.

With NCSoft, as I said, we had bad customer experience with them.

I would rather play an mmo created by a small corperation than just one ones hosted by big giant ones. Just because they seem to do better than the rest of the giants.

Though I have no favorite mmo gaming company.. Sometimes they do good.. and sometimes they are bad. Once an mmo company or a publisher goes downhill, all the players will leave in disgust in a refuse to return to the game because they had a bad experience with either the game or a publisher that handles the customer service.

This is such an easy choice.

For me, The greatest mmo of all time to this point is Asheron's Call.

So Turbine?  Now???  After such a crap sequel like Asherons Call 2?  ...And after more then 5 years now since AC was released?

    Absolutely.

    But WHY? .....

Easy.  Any mmo company confident enough in itself and with enough trust from other major companies to be putting out "the" Lord Of The Rings mmo (Middle Earth Online) bumps up Turbines resume by a huge amount...

But - sure Middle Earth Online will likely be anxiously awaited and obviously it has gigantic possibilities made after such a classic like the Lord of the Rings novels.. but what else has Turbine got?

Not enough for ya?  How about getting together with the company that produced the super hit "Magic" card game (which is where all the Pokymon and other run off card games get their idea and success) and who just bought the entire rights to dungeons and dragons (Wizards of the Coast).  The original pen and paper adventures that huddled geeks together for all-night dungeon crawls rolling dice for decades.  Dungeons and Dragons is putting their trust in Turbine as well for its own mmo.

They have all the talent in the world.  If anyone can make MEO and D&D online a success, it is Turbine.  But they do have their work cut out for them.  Cheap imitations of Lord of the Rings and Dungeons and Dragons for online games will not work at all.  Everyone and their brother who knows even a little bit about mmorpg's is closely watching to see what Turbine does with two of the biggest possible fantasy mmo rights that any company could possibly have.  If you don't think Sony or Blizzard or EA is envious of the potential that Turbine has with these 2 games, you're nuts.

Turbine, with it's release of Asherons Call with 1999, asked the question to it's players on the AC box "Are you ready to answer the call?"  ...Well if Turbine can "answer the call" on either one of these games or both of them... there is no doubt that Turbine will be the Uber King of MMO's.  They got "the call" now from both Wizards of the Coast and Tolkiens Lord of the Rings.  How will they "answer the call"?

Well, my favorite company would be SOE during the BEGINNING of EQ.

    image

  • AldaronAldaron Member Posts: 1,048

I'd agree with you Zax. But after AC2, and the declaration that MEO's emphasis will not be on open PvP...

Well...It looks like they're taking the EQ root.

I'd judge D&DO for not having PvP...But even though I think if D&DO wanted to be a huge whole new world with deep involvement & RP'ing, it'd need open PvP for wars, banditry, etc. It seems that it's main emphasis will be on dungeon trekking. Which unless they have GM's overseeing the servers and creating storylines for the players to follow...I could see it getting old quick.

Now MEO...Set during the 3rd age, on the brink of war. With cases in the history of middle-earth of their being murder, renegades, bandits, countless wars. Plenty of hate, bloodshed, etc.

So again, you got a land on the edge of war, very tensionous, etc. Hate between the men of the east & west, tensions between the 3 free races. A four of cannibalistic crazy murderous race known as the orcs.

And you're gonna have a game that'll probably turn into orc slayin, balrog campin, mithril mining, fearless adventurous fellowships.

If only Sierra was still developing it...

Not to split hairs, but NCSoft did not develop all of their games.  CoH/CoV was developed by Cryptic.  Guild Wars was developed by Arena.  Still they are dedicated to the genre, and that's more than can be said about a lot of (cough EA cough) publishers.

That is a very good point Aldaron.  I also cannot see why either of these two mega mmo's will not have PvP, atleast on dedicated servers.  To me, it seems to be true to their form, they both need to have PvP as a big part of the environments.. if not completely open PvP.  And of all companies, Turbine should know that the PvP in Asherons Call is the heart of their classic hit in Asheron's Call.  If you had to pick the heart of the Asherons Call servers, would it be Wintersebb?  No.  Morningthaw?  Nope.  That would definately be their Darktide server.  All PvP.  It's been the heart of the Asherons Call community since Asheron's Call was born.  I simply cannot imagine either MEO or D&D Online not having some part of the games dedicated to the mmo gamers who prefer the challenge of a PvP world.  Leaving PvP out of both of these games would be like tearing the heart out of their own classic itself, and shutting down their Darktide server in AC, while leaving all the other servers open.  It simply wouldn't make much sense.

My favorite is NPCube, cause they are making the best mmo to date.  Plus some of the devs are funny.  Also I like Gravity simply because of what they have done.  The Ragnarok World Championship.  They flew in 18 teams from 9 different countries  to korea in order to duck it out and claim the title as the best guild in the world.  Thialand took it so seriously, they took the 2 winning guilds and had them practice for one whole month in secrecy.  And they won first and second place.  Also they respond to email within 4 hours typically.

Turbine has done a great job over the years listening to players, creating new stories, and updating the game.

Even though AC2 wasn't great at launch it has developed into a decent game.

As for AC1, it is slowly dieing but give it a break. AC1 (and AC2) don't follow the EQ model of releasing expansion packes every year. Plus, they haven't even been for sale in stores for years. So, the dwindling amount of players is expected but by no means makes Turbine or AC1/2 bad.

The customer support has gone up for both games since Microsoft has been taken out of the loop. Trying to actually get help for the Zone was almost impossible. Now that Turbine runs things, there is a nice Q&A board system and I believe there is even a phone number you can call (though it isn't toll free yet). All the Zone had was emailing support and most of the time all you would recieve is a form letter.

All in all, I think Turbine is a great company and have done quite well keeping AC1 and AC2 going. Lesser company's would have probably cancled them by now (EA?). Instead Turbine believes in their games or at least in their fans and is releasing expansion packs for both games soon.

I'd have to say Turbine... Turbine actually communicated with their customer base quite frequently... well, until Microsoft took it over.. Which is why all of you have a negative attitude about AC2... That was Turbine's fault for letting Microsoft handle things...

I think MEO will be fantastic as long as Turbine keeps live support in house, which I am sure through experience, the know is the most important factor.

But it has to be SOE because otherwise we wouldnt have anything to talk about.
