My next MMORPG

What should it be? Here is a list of the things I like and hate about RPG/MMORPG games:

LIKE

Complex and intriguing storyline
Good graphics and character customization options
Friendly player community
Emphasis on roleplaying and not "being uber" or "getting the most XP out of everything"
Runs well on Windows XP
Quest that you can do FOR dragons where you don't have to kill them

HATE, HATE, HATE, HATE, HATE, HATE!!!

Level grind
PvP (I don't like killing people's players that they've worked so hard to advance)
Crappy graphics
Games that are more like FPS's than RPG's
Cheesy storyline

So, which ones should I try and play and which ones should I avoid at all costs?

Thanks again,
Apprentice Yery

I would reccomend Everquest II... it's got great quests (The betrayal quest from Qeynos to Freeport was my favorite quest of all time.), a decent community, many of the people are roleplayers, great graphics if your computer can handle the higher-end graphics and if you like the graphics style. Very great character customization, but some of it is so miniscule it doesn't even matter. Lower levels you may have a problem with customization because everyone will have the newbie armor/weapons, but later on it'll become much more diverse. It has a decent storyline... but storyline isn't really that big of an issue in MMORPGs, as the emphasis is that you're living in a world where you are the storyline. A quest that you can do for dragons rather than killing them is the only thing that is not in EQ2.

Really no level grind until the mid-levels... mostly you'll just be doing quests and repeatable quests. No PvP.

I'd say definately stay away from World of Warcraft... emphasis is on PvP, has a horrible community, and has out-dated graphics.

    Level grind

Every mmorpg has a level grind.

  • Yery79Yery79 Member Posts: 25

Ah, yes, I understand that. What I really meant to say was "a level grind that
feels like you're getting nowhere while doing the same boring quests over and
over." Thanks for the reality check! :D

You mean the system like SWG?
  • Yery79Yery79 Member Posts: 25

*LOL* Yeah, like that! That's what I DON'T want in an RPG/MMORPG game.

I second that. They are having WAY to much server problems and I don't think your going to have fun waiting in line for hours.

    Give EQII a try.

Neither. Both EQ2 and WoW have either bad roleplay or terrible grinding. If your looking for a decent, semi-massive online roleplaying game, go pick up Neverwinter Nights. Find a nice server and you'll run into some of the best roleplayers around.

EQ2 has good roleplaying, but grind. WoW has no roleplaying, but no grind.

Go with EQ2 honestly.  There's more of a fantasy/adventure roleplaying community there then on WoW.

Definitley stay away from FFXI if you don't like level grinds.  FFXI is all level grind, and everyone has the same equipment...no customization really.

Or you could be really patient and wait for Middle Earth Online, and Dungeons and Dragons online!...Both those should bring the real RP community back into swing, that sorta died out as Ultima Online died out....

For now I just stopped playing FFXI, ...and I've been playing Phantasy Star Online for the heck of it..its got a nice story, or I LAN play RPG's with my friends

Check out Face of Mankind if you hate the grind of most MMORPGs.  Sure, it's FPS based, but that's a SMALL price to pay for getting rid of the level grind crap.

I don't know if it would help you or not but I picked EQ2 up today haven't tried it thought but people said it was good. I don't care if it takes me a week to level up it'll just feel more special when I level up because it'll be hard. I'm not really a gaming and have never gamed before but I'm going to start. I don't know if EVE Online or Anarchy Online fit your discription (never played them) but right now I'm going to try EVE for 14 days and AO is free for one year and they are suppose to be good or atleast thats what I've heard. Anyways, I hope I helped. Maybe if you get EQ2 we can party up together.

Saga of Ryzom is hands down the best game out there. It's totally underrated due to their piss poor job of adding content after going live. Now most of the content is in though and its just flat out a great game in every respect. Theres also a 14 day free trial. Well worth the time to download to check it out.

just wanted to say that WOW isn't a game focused on pvp. There are PVP and NON-PVP servers alike. Even though my opinion is why play MMO's when your not going to PVP. If you like RPG Games there are a shet load of single player games with no monthly fees(duh). Why waste money? It is rather Ironic that someone would want to play MASSIVE MULTIPLAYER games and want to SOLO at the same time.

    *shrug hopelessly*

Solo hater, do you realize WoW try to attract soloers more then many games out there and I would not be surprised if they indeed change many feature in favor of soloing before long, to make it more solo friendly(in the high end)?

Soloing is available NOW, which only tradeskilling can say the same.  If that is not enought to explain you why someone may want to solo, when you solo you dont have to bear anyone else yet, you have the option to bear them at any moment.  I rather solo then endure YOU!  But I rather group nice folks, yet, I dont need it to be better then soloing, I will group for the fun of it if the folks are FUN, if they are lame, I will solo and leave them alone!

The Olympic are a Massively Multiplayers and guess what, solo is the most frequent sport and it come back all the time.  Yet, the Olympic soloers solo for other reasons I dont care to start to explain to you!  If it can help you feel better, all MM that enforce grouping(or anything else), I give up on them and focus on single RPG, however, a MMORPG that is really solo friendly get my preference over a single RPG, have no doubts there.  They are in competition with solo RPG, so they better offer me MORE then those solo games if they want me to consider them for a long time, otherwise, I will ditch them lame MMORPGs who enforce stuff and I will ditch the others players in the same process, is that really what you want?  To be alone in a MMORPG free of soloers?

Remove all solo from WoW as an exemple and I can tell you they lose 80% of their players right NOW!  Remove Battlefield and they may lose 10%, maybe...maybe...
