Why Darkfall is great...

Moldy2Moldy2 Member Posts: 73

I guess this game is so great is because of the bond the player creates when he joins a clan, unlike other games, such as WoW or WAR, the player is allowed to work with his clanmates because there are no levels....

For example, 2 nights ago, some clanmates and I escorted a new recruit into our city... It was dangerous, but because we worked together, it all worked out...

I have never been able to experience something like that in anyother MMO, in fact, I don't believe I ever got to see any of my old guild in WAR, congratz to Darkfall to showing what real MMOs should be like

Interesting story you have, I'm really liking the game as well.

I just hope they upgrade the combat/running animations eventually, that really kills immersion for me personally. The combat sounds don't help either. Otherwise I love everything else about the game.

Very true, I have said time and time again: In DF you will find out who are your true friends (nerdy e-friends that is)

and will always always have a nemesis (the most important part of any game - an asshole you really REALLY want to kill)

Definitely sounds like a solid positive point to the game. I agree with the second poster about the animations and what not. Some of the mechanics seem really interesting and refreshing for the genre, yet the overall polish of the game is so low it takes out out of it. Hopefully they'll revisit some of those things as I honestly feel it could seriously benefit the game.

While there aren't experience levels, there are still skill levels. As such, there can be massive disparities  in damage output and mitigation.  A brand new player, even one experienced in PvP, will not be the same as a veteran, just like in any other game. So, while it's cool that you worked together, you're pretty much at the same disadvantage as characters in other games who group outside their level range with clan mates.  You'll have a harder time hitting veteran players and you'll take more damage.  Your own personal skill will definitely come into play, though, which is a good thing, IMO.

Personally, I don't think the issue is that players "can't" group with lower level clan mates in other games so much as they "won't" unless it's to PL you.  There's no incentive for them to do so, because they won't get experience or loot at your level and you can't contribute at theirs.  In Darkfall, your ability to contribute is greater, albeit still hampered, but there aren't any loot/experience handcuffs.  Rampant skill leveling did happen for a long time, but that seems not to be the case anymore, unless I'm mistaken.

To some degree you're right, but not completely. You can't even fight a max level character in most games, a level 10 could not damage a level 70. In DF after a few weeks you can do some small damage, and it all adds up. It might take 20 or 30 players to kill a skilled player, but it could be done, or at least chase him off. You certainly could chase off an average players.

Aye, when it comes to skill level versus player level, Skill Level games allow even new players to at least participate more so than a player level based game. Sure they might not do all that much damage, but the participation alone allows them to skill up and be a PITA for the person he and his friends are attacking.

There is a reason Batman has Robin around; everyone needs a good distraction on their side :P

There are 3 types of people in the world.
1.) Those who make things happen
2.) Those who watch things happen
3.) And those who wonder "What the %#*& just happened?!"

OP has certainly touched an important point, as most of us know the experience of embarking in a new MMO just to be barred from playing with our friends due to level restrictions.

However, several games have this feature, so it's not as exclusive as some might think. And, like a poster said above, DFO has levels, but they are simply disguised within the skill system. All games have limitations, and DFO is no exception.

DFO is becoming better, that's for sure. But it still has a long way before becoming great.

Well said, and I do believe that Darkfall will develop into something great

It's interesting to go back and see all the negative things said about darkfall change into overall positive things through these past months

When did you start playing "old school" MMO's. World Of Warcraft?
