More Goodness: More about Ships and other upcoming changes

RuynRuyn Member Posts: 1,052

Hey Darkfallers,

As you may have noticed, we are trying to not only give the Darkfall Community more information about the upcoming Expansion but also clarify on mechanics that have been changed and which are important on a grander scale.

But let's start off with a new addition to the worldmap:

For your convenience you will be able to switch timers for village control points on the world map on and off.

We have also been talking about the sea fortresses and how fixes to AE magic are, of course, important for those new incentives to work properly. Now let us talk about some additional changes that will ensure your experience with the expansion will not be hampered by game mechanics:

Some of you already noticed the new ship we smuggled into the screenshot with the new Sea Fortress. This new Asian style ship has a slightly different layout then the normal ones and will therefore have different tactical uses in a sea battle. However, we don't really want to spoil too much in that regard.

More importantly, ship builders will not only have a much easier time finding the resources needed to build ships, they will also notice that their banks will be substantially less drained when it comes to overall building costs.

But there is more:

Besides the earlier mentioned fix to AE damage involving structures, Captains and Pirates-to-be might be excited about the fact that ships have more obvious speed differences depending on their type, on top of all of the ships now traveling faster in general.

Additionally, out-swimming a ship won't be an option anymore not only due to the speed changes but also due to the fact that the swimmer will notice that he or she will tire faster. Even swimming normally will prove to be a straining undertaking.

Rafts and/or swimmers will have to get out of the way of a ship if they don't want to get pushed along for the ride. This means, players who got stuck on the side of a ship will get properly pushed away and not follow the ships movement directly while hiding from the cannons. That little raft trying to block your vessel? Just push it out of the way. In this case, size does matter!

Last but not least, there will be old and new dangers in the water, which will keep you on your toes, or should I say, flippers.

Hey ho and a bottle of rum!

I read in Alliance chat that the expansion will come out this Friday 27.
    Any truth to this?

Also hope swimming wont be that much strenuous. I need it to get away from PK's.

    Well, buy a raft then.

They said they will try to have it out by the end of this week.  So, Thurs or Friday.  But they also said it is a tentative date so if they can't get it out by Friday they said only a few day delay, so maybe Monday?

wow, they are really cracking out the info in the build up to patch day. this is good communication AV!

All I can really say is that these changes really consolidate the notion that AV can actually polish of the game. Sure there is a mountain of other things to fix but it really looks like they are focused and can see what changes need to be made to make new stuff work properly.

Im really excited about the patch now tbh.

And it also sounds like you will want to traverse the water with at the very least a raft.

Not only is it thriving, it is one probably the only place for a action pack pvp game with fps combat.

Also with the up coming expansion and more to come, I am sure 100 % of the problems that we tell the devs about will be fixed or revamped in some way, and after this expansion, I would say they knocked out almost 95% of the main problems, Grats AV.

This game is rocking lol, and NA is such fun People everywhere WEEE.

BUT WHAT HAPPENED LAST NIGHTS SIEGES I AM AT WORK, AND NEED TO KNOW!

So do you guys think that you will start losing stamina when swimming without sprinting and if so, drown if out of stamina?

Yes, this will apply to normal swimming as stated in the original post.

Also, they gave an update saying that ship cannons will be dishing out more damage. :)

Yup and when you look at the new ship it appears that its cannons are positioned near the front.  Hit and run?  The one side does not have cannons.  I wonder if the cannons go down the whole side of the ship or just that front side?

I have said it before "this expansion just keep getting better and better everytime you hear more about it" : )

The swimming stamina thing, it is clear to see that AV want us to use boat and ships for sea travel....not swimming. And i think that is a great thing. Of course you CAN still swim!

Daarco what is your name in game, and are u on the NA server, I feel the urge to PK YOU!

But more serious, I agree you can still swim(probably small distances) but small/medium/large distances through the oceans will probably be dangerous with the new mobs they are adding in.

So maybe it will be like a risk factor.

I imagine normal swimming will be the same stamina loss as sprinting on land.  Sprinting in water on the other hand I'm guessing will be twice the stamina loss of sprinting on land.

You weren't there last evening/ night when an alt clan sieged our allies Thugs for Life? They used an alt clan called Thugs for Lift and the clans involved were Evil Bastages, West Niles, Ech One En One, Vigiliante, and some others that I forgot. There was so much action just for the hamlet near middle agon and we wiped them everytime. They came constantly though and never stopped trying for an hour or so, so there was lots of action.

    EDIT: to Izure
