MikeBMikeB Community ManagerAdministrator RarePosts: 6,555

Dick Grayson aka Robin flees the coop and becomes Nightwing in the DC Comics universe. Now, the former Boy Wonder officially joins the ranks of DC staples such as Superman and even his former mentor, Batman,  on the roster of iconic heroes that will be making their appearance in DC Universe Online.

In addition to today's announcement, SOE has released six new screenshots of Nightwing which you can view in our DC Universe Online gallery.

I don't understand this because... (MAJOR SPOILERS FOR BATMAN FANS)

Seriously, if you haven't read a Batman comic in the last year or so, don't read the spoiler unless you really don't care.

    Last chance to look away.

Dick Grayson is now Batman. Bruce Wayne is dead. I was under the impression that they were going to work the whole DCUO into the DC cannon somehow, but maybe this will be like an alternate DC universe where Bruce is still alive and the Blackest Night stuff hasn't happened yet.

Yeah.. I was wondering the same thing with the author above... The DC universe is never stagnant, what you mentioned is especially a big part of the DC universe's recent changes.

I don't know what the hell you mean by "Nightwing Revealed!", last i checked Nightwing was "revealed" a long time ago in one of their videos, along with robin(tim drake) and the second bat girl(cassandra kain i think). Also I'm pretty sure killer crock was mentioned with art i believe a while back. As far as i can tell the only reveals are Changeling(beast boy) and Raven.

The game sets up an "ideal" version of the DCU for your character to make their mark in. This means we pick and choose what the status of certain characters is that we think will make the most sense to new comers, make the existing fans happy and allow for the best possible stories to be told.

For example…Bruce Wayne is Batman in our game even though he is "dead" in the books and Aquaman is a sea king who talks to fish rather than a Black Lantern etc….

The Nightwing name is not unused, now that Grayson is Batman.  The original Nightwing has made a comeback in the Superman comics along with his companion Flamebird.  They are involved with the whole New Krypton story arc.

It's not like Bruce is going to stay dead.  Seriously.

Anyhow, I am unmoved by this "revelation."  We already know they are going to have iconic DC heroes and villains.  I'm a lot more interested in the gameplay at this point.

Very cool. Nightwing & Robin are among my fav characters. Also seeing Killer Croc and Beat Boy here. Though I expected Killer Croc to be larger, teh. In Arkham Asylum he was really frightning. Im am glad in DCU Bruce Wayne is still Batsy. In the end he will be again sooner or later anyway, I mean he is the REAL Batman. ;)

I think he's definitely going to stay dead. Grayson has moved in and even rebuilt the Bat Cave. I think Grayson will stay on as Bats until Drake gets old enough to take on the Mantle.

Dude, they've already shown he isn't really dead.  He's in some sort of dimensional trap (that conveniently leaves a body behind...odd, but true, Darkseid has used this ability before).  They've shown him in this trap doing stuff.  They've had other people be Batman before and this is little different.

    Folks,

I been collecting and reading comics for almost 40 years.  Did Superman stay dead?  Is Captain America rotting in his grave?  How about that Jason Todd/Robin killed by the Joker?  If there is any constent, there will always be comic heroes rising from the grave.

Dick Grayson as Batman is an eventualality that was to happen for the character.  He, however, doesn't have the unique origin that Bruce Wayne experianced to become the Batman.  If you read the current Batman and Robin comic, the roles of principle characters are reversed with Damion brooding while Dick is his normal cheery self.  The differance for them is one is learning while the other is teaching.  The emotionally scarred and brooding Batman will no doubt make his return in about a year.  Then it will be fun to see what ol' DC does with those characters.  Check how long other prime characters have lasted dead; Jean Grey not withstanding of course.  I guess Mar-vell is still dead, however, I keep seeing stories involving him.

DCUO is in its own parallel universe within the whole of the contunium.  It could make for some interesting comics if there are cross overs to that realm.  But that remains to be seen.

So far everything in DCUO looks pretty cool but is anyone else sort of scared to give their money to SOE and allow SOE access to your system?

Anyone else ever try the EQ2 demo and then not be able to uninstall it, only to find out that there is no uninstall feature that comes with SOE products? It was a nightmare for me to clean it off my system manually. As cool as this game looks and as much as I love Superman and Batman, I'm not so sure I want anything to do with SOE.

I just want to see what others have to say about them good/bad....
