Science Fiction is dead!

...isn't it? ::::03:: ::::04::

Since the release of Neocron I'm waiting for an atmospherical, end-time based Science Fiction mmorpg with pvp, rpg, and a huge community. I've played SWG and was mayor of my town, however it wasn't that atmoshperical as expected, so I quit after a half year.
Now, after those 2 blockbuster games WoW & EQ2 I thought that the developers will plan new SciFi mmorpg's, because every new fantasy game would be doomed...but have a look at the release list! Only medieval fantasy games. *sigh*
Hard times for a Science Fiction Fan ::::16::
Microsoft should sell the Shadowrun lizense to Blizzard or Sony...but they won't do that.
So do you know any upcoming SciFi games except Matrix Online and Face of Mankind (looks good, but i think the community will be too small to keep it alive).

P.S.: sorry for my bad english. hope you get what i want to say.

Tabula Rasa, Seed, and Imperator are all sci-fi based.

  • lotharrlotharr Member Posts: 981

Thats true, i love sci-fi myself.

    But heres hope image

    EVE online

    Face of Mankind

Matrix Online (I dont think that there will be problems with that community matter, there is small community, then they dont need so much server space. What does that they can keep that alive if they want to).

    Imperator

Tabularasa is Sci-Fa (Science fictiond fantasy, I think)

Anarchy online is now heaven for newbies

    Starsonata

    and something... image

I am keeping my eye on Imperator, I think I will enjoy that one. And don't forget Star Trek Online has been announced. Thats as big of an annoucement as SWG being announced when it was. I don't think you can get more sci-fi then that for upcoming games.

Science Fiction mmorpgs has just begun! Plenty of science fiction games will come out like listed above! Company's choose fantasy based games for mmorpgs more because generally role-playing is easier to make with fantasy games! I am looking forward to Tabula Rasa and Imperator.

You really should check out Tabula Rasa, its fairly highly anticipated.  I've been waiting for it for a couple of years now.

Not to beat a dead horse but EvE is sci-fi, is unlike most other games, and has been released for a year and half, so id getting to be nicely balanced (if one can say such things bout an mmorpg). So no need to cry about having to wait.

I said the only science fiction games are that you have to buy or in development. None in beta.

How about a "post apocalyptic" setting...leaning twoards a MAD MAX feel?

Do you think something like that would be interesting?

I'm waiting for Star Trek Online that's coming out in 2006... ugh... so long!  I just hope they don't mess it up.

Or go for Anarchy Online.  I didn't like it, but hey, no more monthly fee, can't go wrong with that.

But a Shadowrun MMORPG would rock!  It keeps me wondering though. Why release Dungeons & Dragons Online with dozens of Fantasy Medieval MMORPGs already out there in the market?  They are so stupid.

Shadowrun Online would sell well if it's capable of beating SWG, Planetside and Anarchy Online. All they need is good graphics, another RPG-like engine (cause that's the only thing people can come up with MMORPGs) and stability, it will sell.  Or heck, bring in a Vampire Online or World of Darkness Online.  There's nothing like that, it would be a first of it's kind!

w00t. thanks for the replys :-)

I've played Anarchy Online and EVE Online in Beta and after that a couple of weeks.
    What should I say? Crap!

Okay, Imperator looks interesting, that's right.
Star Trek mmorpg. Hmmm...I love the StarTrek Universe, but atm I can't imagine this setting for an mmorpg.

Post Apocalyptic? That's what I'm waiting for! Mankind is nearly destroyed by a disease and new factions are born ...or stuff like that.

Someone should make a Ghost in the Shell MMORPG. That would be a good Sci-Fi MMO.

Face of Mankind, Fallen Earth and Twilight War would fit that.

None of which are ready yet ::::16::

I pity those who are going to purchase crap (tabula rasa), that game will not be cool after richard garriot leaves when the community stops growing.

Mythic is still the best mmo developer around, imperator will pwn and pwn easy.

Type Seed Game into your search engine. Go to the game's website and learn about it. It may be the best game you've continued to ignore.

I would punch my own mother in the kidney for a well made Shadowrun MMO.

There are plenty of sci-fi games..

Unlike there needs to be more wing commander type(wither quake in space or open ended space trading but I would perfer more quake in space)sci-fi mmos besides EVE, Earth and Beyond.

I know vendetta and jumpgate exists but there hasn't been any of these types of games.

edit: I totaly apologize for repeating this same old topic over and over in different sections.

EVE is, IMO, still the best Sci-Fi MMORPG released to date.  It actually seemed  to take some degree of science into account when developing their solar systems and space exploration elements.  Plus the game's atmosphere was posatively kick-ass.  It was a pity that the planets were just there for scenery and you couldn't do anything with them (has this changed within the last couple years?  If it has I may consider taking EVE up again).

Star Trek Online is one I'll definately consider getting into.  Hopefully they do it right.

That's planned for next expansion called Kali. They were showing video of planetary flight for these who were at  iceland eve fanfest last year and these who were there told it was like image, so there is hope.
