Well.. all you do is click fish then click on the lure if you catch something. It's not much, but it's more than alot of other games. I find fishing boring in all MMORPGs, though.

I heard Blizzard nerfed fishing really bad, though, because bots were getting rich off it.

I like it personally.  Coming from EQ1 where there was really no reason to fish, in WoW, you get free pet food, personal food for recovering health, selling fish to make money and items occasionally.  I was actually making quite a lot of money, ie 2 gp a night fishing one area before the nerf.  I think it was probably for the better, but I haven't found any other way to make decent money at lower levels.  At least in WoW you have to set the hook ;)  Peace.

Wait... so Blizzard just nerfed fishing instead of getting rid of the bots? That's brilliant.

Pretty much, yea. I think it is still good if you use the food for yourself(or pet), but not good to make money off of. But then again, most of the professions aren't good to make money off of. Most are just good for personal use. Only one I can think of that is good for making money is enchanting at higher levels(and skinning, mining, and herbalism, of course).

Blizzard has alot of work to do... the game is messed up in server side cuss they did not do extensive work on the servers to stop it all... I knew it was gonna happen but they needed money to further there testing.. dont worry... they will stop the botting imageimage

fishing is good for feeding your pet.. i had a pet during beta that was a crab and it liked fishes alot..

I think its a bit unrealistic. No bait needed, line never breaks, rod never breaks.

Now that you mention it Nimrod, I guess it is prety basic. I was thinking of FFXI whrere you just click "Fish" and wait. But I forgot about all the different kinds of rods, different kinds of bait to catch different fish, rods breaking, quests for fishing, etc.(though WoW probably has quests for fishing, too).

WoW fishing has bait enhancing items and better rods AND fishing quests here and there. Not to mention the occassionl loot catch!

I still think that FFXI overcomes WoW in fishing.

i agree, FFXI fishing takes much more skill than WoW. For each section or body of water you go to there is usually a different type of bait and a different rod needed to catch certain fish. And on top of that, the rod can break sometimes, resulting in a very pissed off player. So, yeah, it does take more skill, but I still like WoW better than FFXI.

well fishing is kind of off time thingie

its not exiting, but it is implented pretty good

people who get fishing and work at it can use it to complete certain quests, get some crafting items, and make small amount of money(and the allready mentiond food for you and your pet)

i dont think botting was the reason they nerfed the gain from it, it was extreamly easy, for a low level char, to get high amounts of money useing it... fishing at moonglade for one, could do it with low skill and get high amount of items you could get a about 2gold for 30min

dont know how it is now tho, my knowledge is from beta to the point it ended...

    im Drunklight! *hic*

Wow.. that is better and it must be frustrating trying to catch a fish when your rod keeps on breaking :D

    ok

FFXI gets the point for fishing and cuts the WoW lead to 367.

Sorry jim, I edited it on you. I'm getting slow in my old age.

Never took up fishing in FFXI so I can't really make the comparison, but yes I do think WoW fishing is rather boring and tedious.  It is necessary, however, especially if you want to do alchemy and get some of those nifty potions.

I quit FFXI because of fishing and how long it took to get to the point where you don't spend every gil in your possesion to even start fishing, in different areas.  WoW's fishing is straight to the point like real life, you get a rod, get a worm, and cast her out and wait.  The more you do it the more places you can fish successfully.  Although catching a fish as fast as WoW makes it isn't real life unless you're fishing blue gills.

With that said, I preferred WoW's design on fishing over FFXI's any day.  What game schools both of them in fishing fun?  IMHO it'd have to be UO's design. image

You lot do realise OP is taking the piss because his signature has a link to WoW fishing bot.

Whoever does not like Fishing, can just... NOT FISH!

I like it, after doing quests or grinding, finding a nice spot (Or the Booty Bay dock, which has become my new place to fish) it becomes relaxing to just look at the sun set and waters, the soothing sounds of the sea coming out of my speakers, and since I'm a hunter and I'm aiming to always tame a pet that eats fish, I get free food to feed my pet!

It's great!  I love the fact that I can have the fishing profession and still be take Skinning and Leatherworking at the same time!

No hunter should go out without some good Fishing skills!  I know Crocrodiles eat fish.  My old Wind Serpant ate fish too.  If I'm not mistaken the good Tigers and Panthers around Booty Bay eat fish too. So instead of always worrying about looting Meat from craetures to feed a Meat-lover pet, fish is the best way to go!

And even if you aren't a hunter, instead of worrying about looting or buying food to regenerate health, eat fish!  Whenever you need food, find a nearby river, get 1-2 fishies and you're set!
