    Like xpiher said "No".

You got to be ready to bet $50 on DF and hope you like the game. I suggest you wait after the expansion to see how things goes.

I doubt they will ever offer a free trial, unless they offer a separate server to do it on.  The current servers (2) can only hold so much.  You also have the possibility of current players making trial accounts to have more characters on the server (there is currently a limit of one character per account) for whatever reason.  There are a lot of implications with doing trial accounts on a game like this.

some greek magazines give 10 day trial codes and also some weeks ago adventurine attended a greek technology event and gave out alot of trial codes to the participants..so i am gessing its on its way for a larger audience.

    Yup.

Despite some fans/players resistance to Trials (for whatever reason); DarkFall will eventually have Trials for anyone who wants one.

Will some players figure out a way to exploit them?  Yup, just like they did with the AI, the geometry, ships, mounts, magic, etc.

Not sure why some think that a couple players exploiting a Trial account or two will suddenly cause the doom of DarkFall?  DarkFall has survived quite a number of exploits by it's playerbase, so if some do exploit Trials it's just another on the list... not a justification for keeping Trials out, in my opinion.

Trials will come... I can wait.

Trials, so anyone can activate an account and speedhack for an hour not giving a shit if they get banned? No thanks.

So anyone can make an account, and inject a spy into a guild with no consequences? No thanks.

If they do offer free trials, I hope they're very very limited. People who are very interested in the game, and are probably going to enjoy it will eventually come around and buy it anyway.

Free trials would be more of a burden than a benefit in Darkfall.

Always hating on instances in MMOs! Open worlds, open PvP, territory control and housing please. More persistence, more fun.

Not allowing trading would be an absolute necessity. Otherwise you'd just see a bunch of trial-alts doing peon work all over the cities.

So long as it's done right it could be very beneficial to Darkfall, as most people aren't brave (or whatever word you want to use) enough to fork out the dough for this costly game. But when you first play DF it's a pretty good experience (if you manage to understand the UI mechanics) and, if they limit the time to just a few days, I think it'll help raise the numbers quite a bit.

I remember first playing EVE, the trial was only 3 days. But I wanted more and I felt like there was so much to learn about that game, so I subbed. I reckon the same affect can be had with DFO.

The only way it could work is a trial island with low capped skill learning.

Then you would have to disable full loot on the trial accounts as well.

Trail accounts that stick you into the regular game don't work for FFA PvP games that can be hacked. Sadly DFO can still be hacked, just like most games. EvE can be hacked, but its mechanics make those hacks useless.

Taking just the bad without the good doesn't make sense. I started in many games as a free trial and ended up playing them for quite a long time. Not everyone is trying to scam things up.

If done correctly (and this is very easy to do), a trial is always a boon to a game. Simply blocking outgoing trades and limiting gold reserves would be ok.

I'm pretty interested in Darkfall lately but I just can't buy it blindly.  The last three MMOs I've bought (war, aion, aoc) felt like a huge waste of money and I'm kind of getting burned out on spending money on games that are poo.  Guess I'll keep playing HoN and Quake Live until a trial comes around or a new game with promise sweeps in and saves the day.

Ah, that's good news, I've been vaguely interested in Darkfall for a while, but not to the extent of spending 50E just to see if it suits me.

As for the other poster complaining about spies &c.... any guild that admits trial players has only itself to blame for what results. Any EvE player could tell you this.

My main issue for wanting a trial is this. My system does meet and somewhat exceed system requirements...to run the game. But how will it run during a siege? If it becomes unplayable during a siege, which is what I love about the game, then I forked over $50 for nothing.

And no, I don't have the money to upgrade, hardly have the money to buy the game. Not everyone can afford such lavish systems when a new game arrives sadly. Hopefully once I finish school.

the reason other games offer free trials is simple, it increases sub numbers...if it didnt, they would'nt offer trials, the most basic logic there can be. When AV offers trials I will give it a shot and if I like it I will sub, I have done that for every MMO out there since wow was released, I wont ever again blindly step into an MMO, it has never worked out well. Until than i'll be happy to keep up on the news, but you wont be seeing me putting any of my hard earned money into this game until I can have a stab at it with no risk.

As Ianicus sayd , the reason for doing trials is that they get extra customers .

however the reason for "not" doing so is if the PR guys thinks a trial will put off more people than they will get , so basically if you see a mmo without a trial which havent just launched , its not worth your money just yet.

I bought the game, wish i haden't, and played for a month and left. Still needs tons of work. Not dissing it because I should have waited longer knowing. Give it a year, my opinion that is, and I will try it again. Just too many bugs and the combat really needs to be fixed. Maybe you just need a break from MMOs ? It does happen and it is healthy. Go knock up some chick in the mean time. or dude. whatever your preference.

A free trial will kill this game.  Go join R.I.P. in AoC and help kill that game.

The only thing i know is that it will be released in Greek stores on December the 18th. So i am afraid there is not going to be a trial soon. Perhaps next year.

Common sense says there will be one. But not in a week or month. Because AV needs to make this game more polished. It's great but not for an average Jack. But I can bet there will be trial in not longer than half an year. I hope servers will handle it good. Not sure though hehe...

A sharing key system would be good instead. Like if you have a friend that play DF, you could ask him to give you his free cd key to play DF for 15 days.

Yeah, you're probably right. As soon as there's a trial, I'll give it a go.

I've gotten burned a couple of times and blew $50 on games that I ended up not licking much.

I would like to try this game out for at least a couple of weeks before putting down my money on it.

    Gotta say it looks promising.
