One character per account?

JoeShmo2JoeShmo2 Member CommonPosts: 98

 Is this true?

And if so, does anyone know of any plans for this to change?

The reason I ask is with most mmos i share an account with my siblings, and this would definitely be troublesome for me..

well.......nope there not changing srry sport, i got to say 1 char per account is best idea ive ever heard just saying cuz it makes people only focus on one char ONE not 5 ONE. PLus they probley did that becuase of wat u do share with ur sibleing.

But ya i currently play darkfall and if u need any info and or going to buy the game hit me up with a pm and maybe i could get u into a good begging clan for ya and help you out

It was done to prevent spying, backstabbing aliases and you only have one reputation.

Important in a FFA PVP game with full loot

Aoc, wow, warhammer, any mmorpg of that game need multiple character in 1 account because of the huge amount of quests, story line, lore and other stuff like that. LVL are included as a reason. I have a brother and we played aoc in one account. We had different stories and all, but anyway, i left that game cuz it sux and i hate other wow clones too.

Darkfall is only 1 character per account because like other said, its better for reputation, politic and anti spy or stuff like that, but if you look at the good side of it, there are no quest  or story line to follow. There is no different event when you chose your race. Only the alignment system make a different. There is no lvl, but only skills plus no cap. So whats the point of being able to make 2 characters in one account? You 2(you and your brother) should instead help each others to raise your 1 character skills and use him on pvp. You do anything you want in darkfall so your brother cant ruin your whole game(unless he is retarded and destroy all your bank items.)

another reason is, i guess, that with that single character, you can train any skill you want =).  it hasn't preset classes, you can craft, cast, gather, swing your sword etc. with your single character, depends the effort you put in it =)

And having two accounts bypasses all of that. Imperfect solutions for an imperfect world I guess.

Not the perfect solution but the best solution.  Multiple accounts helps AV's pocket book which is then passed onto the players.

Besides, you wouldn't want to level up another character anyways.

Blasphemer, there are no levels in this the greatest game ever made. Besides the skillbot programs still work fine so it would be a no brainer as it always has been in this carebear game.

I would never play a game where I could only have one character per account.

I like to do different things at different times. Sometimes I want the melee guy in a game running in and slashing away, sometimes I want to play the magic guy, or the ranged guy, and even a healr. Sometimes I want a guy dedicated to crafting and I want to do that. So any game that doesn't allow multiple characters is strange. It doesn't prevent any sort of abuse because even in games with multiple characters per account die hard players have multiple accounts.

Afk marcoing wlll be a problem in all skill based / classless games. But botting isn't as useful as it used to be. The people who actively play the game skill up faster.

Unlike most games, darkfall doesn't have any sort of hard cap, just self inflicted ones that offer advantages and can be loaded out easily. So your reason for wanting more than 1 character in darkfall is a non-issue since everyone can do everything with that 1 character. People say the economy is scrwed up because of it, but they don't know what they are talking about. If 1 character couldn't do everything then AV would allow for muliple characters per account (players would actually demand it at that point) in which case the same people who do everything for themselves now would still do it with more than 1 character. Nothing is changed

The point that one character per account is important in a FFA pvp game makes sense, but why dont they just  say you can only have one player per SERVER?

i dont see any problem whatsoever with this

Because they don't offer more then one server per region yet and the  wording you suggest  has lead to misundertstandings in the past as if you could join any server on any region with same account.

You only need one character in DF.

But in the future i would like to see one character in every server.

EvE, potentially the greatest sandbox game currently out, has three characters per account.

    Consider that, chaps.

After what 3 years of people demanding it. Their isn't a reason for it in EvE unless you want to spy or avoid your guild. Same thing would happen in darkfall. I take that back, in EvE you could build your characters differently since it can take real life years to have a fully maxed character /facepalm

One character per server works for SWG in its golden days.  Absolutely no problem back then.

Your "facts" you are trying to present about AV is misleading, if not outright wrong.

There is only one region for AV, greece.  The so called "US server" is US in name and is located in Greece.  Many people have tried to trace it.  It is owned by AV.  Many gamers reported that Paypal receipts for purchase of accounts in the so called US server goes directly to Tasos.

It is not a misunderstanding, AV knows it.  It is a change in terms of services.  All along AV advertise the game in their own website as one character per server.  Before the so called "US" server launch, they quietly edit the web to read one character per account.  That is underhand.

While this might not be crucial in affecting choice of game, it is bad practice spinning and spreading false information about the game.

And devs admitted it was mistake (even greater from introducing learning skills).

Misleading?  Your "information" is equally as misleading:

    • Publisher - yes, Aventurine quietly changed the text from one character, per server to one character, per account.  They did so because there's only one server, per regional publisher.  The two publishers are Audio Visual for Europe and Aventurine SA (self published) for North America.  If there were multiple servers in a region (impossible, due to the current total population - they really only need a single server between regions, IMO), you'd most likely be allowed one character, per server. As to the separate publishers, that's a different story altogether.  Personally, I believe Aventurine sold the rights to Darkfall in Europe because they needed the money.  If they were able to self publish for Europe, they would have.  They were able to self publish for NA, so they did.  End result, two different entities own the rights to the game.
    • Location - the European server is in Europe, the North American server is in North America (hosted by GNi)
    • Money - "Many gamers reported that Paypal receipts for purchase of accounts in the so called US server goes directly to Tasos".  Seriously?

@Joe - sharing accounts is against the EULA of every MMO I've ever played.   Sorry, but it's a P2P game.  You can't pay, you can't play.

You have no idea what the hell you are talking about. The NA server is located in california and ran by GNi. This is a proved fact, people pinged the server before transfering to see what their latency would be. AV supposedly runs the servers in greece. The pay pal thing was a misunderstanding since AV had to set up another company, a subsidary, in the US to handle the US billing. Unlike the EU accounts, AV gets all the money from the sales in NA.

Yeah you should check out Darkfall. This is the one game where you can do any and every thing you want. I have high melee skills, high archery skills, and high magic skills. With a little work you can do it all and adapt to any situation.
