DnL&Guild Wars

Why is Guild Wars hyped a little more than DnL(Dark and Light)? the graphics may be a little better, but Guild wars offer no race selection, not as large world as DnL(for some people, like me, that's just thrilling... mile after mile with land to explore with a swift blade, a silvertounge, and hands working faster than lighting stealing from the rich, and giving to the poor. Me.)

its hyped because its an up front $50 fee (with regular expansions) rather than a subscription pay model - which makes it more attractive to those without credit cards or casual players. It's also very heavily focused on guild PvP with a low amount of levelling (lvl20 max), so is quite different from most MMORPG's.

    ---sig---

PvE in general is pretty lame, if you think long and hard about it. You are spending your time beating a severely gimped AI that would lose to a well trained monkey. Best not to think too long and hard why you are wasting time playing games in general actually...

It's hyped because they are more open about there game.  They have had open betas and people know what their getting unlike DnL which has shared nothing about the actual gameplay of the game.

you can't say they haven't shared anything, there are quite a few FAQ's and dev chats and interviews, enough to get a good idea anyways. and i think it must have to do with Guild Wars being more widely known , already saw the preorder box at best buy the other day. if DnL did a better job of getting word out i think they would be a bit higher.

Make of it what you will.

I am talking about the actual gameplay.  The ideas are terrific yes but so were Wish's.  The only thing they have shared on the gameplay is ...it's closed beta we arent allowed to say.  At this point they are hiding behind that and it's starting to concern me.

You cannot possibly compare these two games in any form ... they could not be any different.

As positive matters for Guild Wars I see: pay for the box, and u can play forever, great graphics, Not having to wait for respawns in quests(something about ur own map?:p)

As negative matters: Only one race=(, no rogue class, Solo playing seems to be very difficult...

DnL Positive: lots of races, one enormous server for all(I think they have figured out a way to not make it go down every other second as well), solo playing works good, Much freedom, lots of things to do(Hire npc's, hangglide over the lands, mounts, and u can build hut/house/fortress/castle, not quite sure there)

DnL negative: such a big server might be faulty anyhow?, not quite as good graphics, pay each month 8-10 euro is what I heard?

I am thinking about buying a new computer just to fit one of these games, but I have to figure out which, since I do not want to be left with the feeling that I could've gotten more.

Couldn't agree more.  I was just addressing the hype issue.  Me personally have my hopes riding on DnL.  My excitment is beginning to waiver though as we are just a few months from release and so many things left unsansered.

Could not agree more about the difference.  I was addressing the hype issue for the game.  For me personally I have my hopes riding on DnL though within a few months of the targetted release (a date which they acknowledged was their target date) and so many details left out I am beginning to have doubts.

Dont doubt... it must be silent before the storm... and I think DnL will cause one hell of a storm... Positively, of course:P

DNL may be a great game but advertising and sales is what supports a game with the pay to play set-up. The more player there are to play the cheaper it is per player to provide.

I had not even heard of DNL before joining this site, where GUILD WAR is doing a very good job of getting the word out and building up anticipation for the game. With the set-up of GUILD WARS the way to make money is to keep the game interesting by the addition of the expansions which must be equally good. They have hinted that the expansions may bring additional races and the sounds like a good idea (IE: The dearf pack, the elf pack, the orc pack) this also makes them keep the product good and suprise us with each pack and hence make more people want to pay for it.

Both may be equally good, and by ones admission GUILD WARS has slightly better graphics but I believe that I for one will be supporting GUILD WARS on the sole reason of I want to see this set-up more (hey I like playing 3-4 games at a time)

Witty saying to amuse you goes here.

    I'd say for two reasons:

    1. No monthly fee. Obviously that will appeal to a lot of people, like the ones who don't have access to a credit card, so that will boost the rating up tremendously.

    2. The amount of information revealed to the public: If you are a Guild Wars enthusiast, you probably browse through some fansite forums occasionally. Well, a good thing about that is the sheer amount of alpha testers. With 1000-2000 testers, combined with a pretty loose NDA I'd say, the testers and ArenaNet reveal so much information about the game that it is just mind boggling. Sometimes I wonder is screenshots and movies are like the only thing the Alphas can't do. Not to mention that with the monthly beta events, people have a chance to experience what Guild Wars is about, don't need to hear it from someone playing it.

Those are the reason I believe for why GW is hyped more than DnL, not that DnL has bad features or that it is a bad game, it's just the amount of information in GW is a lot more readily available, and of course the features are appealing to a lot.

Yes thats exactly the point I am trying to get across I know what Guildwars is and going to be.  I am not going to play it because it's not my type of game but at least I know that.  DnL is hiding behind NDA at this point.  Now there looks like there is no open beta which to be is total bullsh#t and a copout by DnL.

They decided to pre-screen for the strees test.  They will still be inviting 65k people for the stress test, it just won't be a free for all.

Here is the appeal of Dark and Light.  With absolutely no advertising and releasing very little about the game, going as far to say beta testers cant reveal any parts of the game without facing legal action.  They still have 100k fans atleast.
