Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures: November's Letter from the Game Director

Age of Conan Game Director Craig Morrison addresses the community once again in this month's Letter from the Game Director. In the letter Morrison discusses Conan's upcoming Korean launch, and also reveals some details on the 1.06 update, including news that the update will be hitting test servers this week.

From the sounds of it, 1.06 looks to address some of the major issues I had with Conan's balance, namely the disparity between melee vs. range, an issue that often plagues many MMOG's, but was particularly highlighted due to the extra effort required from melee players utilizing combos vs. the traditional combat available to ranged casters.

To that end, a number of changes will be coming to level the playing field, including: a sharp reduction in efficiency of crowd control spells, as well as the inability for casters to use stamina potions (finally!). The fact melee had to burn combo-fueling stamina to sprint and catch casters who would then burn stamina, which was otherwise useless to them, to run away always seemed like a glaring oversight. Of course, it sounds like they'll still be able to do this, but at least they won't be able to pot it back!

Still a case of too little too late I see, I was disappointed after the original release, severely disapponted after the bait and switch antics of the "come back to Hyboria" drive; and don't see anything that indicates a change in the quality of customer service with funcom...you still get an F-

Caster nerf for melee that don't know how to play.

    Brilliant!

You guys obviously have not played the game recently.  There are patches and updates that come out very often.  New content has been regularly put out since release.  In response to player complaints, target areas were changed and player suggested defects in workmanship were corrected.  The devs have worked around the clock to make up for the difficult release.

I played AoC for over twelve hours last Friday night.  My guild-mates asked me if I wanted to run Sanctum of the Burning Souls with them.  We made many passes over the course of that evening helping several members of our guild family (including myself) to acquire full sets of Level 40 Rare armor.  This is Teamwork.  This is Community.  We were not the only guilds running that instance.  Every time we ran outside to re-initiate our instance, there was a different guild present doing the same thing, gathering their younger members together for a night of teamwork.  Age of Conan is far from dead.  There were no lock-ups.  There was no freezing or hangs.  Everything played smoothly.  Even with much stronger players present, the mobs were VERY challenging.  If a new guy got seperated from the party, chances are we would catch up with him coming back from a rez pad.  The Pad and I became close friends that evening, as well...

Today, Age of Conan is far from broken.  It is a very fun game that is waiting for players to rediscover it.

I am subscribed to AoC and its my favourite game out a poor selection these days however this post is fantasy  above..

No lock ups or freezing? since the last patch we had around 4 or 5 hotfix patches now to try to fix this issue and it still plauges the once smoother raids  I attend you are pretending there is no issues and it plays smoothly this isnt the case even Funcom acknowledge that and are fixing it (again)

Farming level 40 dungeons with high levels characters..is one of the main issues with AoC its very rare on most servers now to have a normal pick up group experience to take on dungeons...most of your level are lalts and dont wish to take the time to play through th einstances they have done 200 times...

The real issue with AoC is there is very little to do for experienced players...farming for alts and making more than 2 characters is not for everyone as the mass of leavers continue to show AoCs biggest flaw is there is no reason to stay with it. Overall its a very fun game the first time especially but its over fast (for an mmo ) very similar to a 1 player experience for most of it and 18 months after launch is still no reason to guild or group or have this fabled "teamwork"  ....renown etc we will see I think its going to be another cheap accumate points for crappy vendor fluff like the vet rewards personally.

I have a drinking cape from the CE. Can I actually use it yet? Can I have a bar brawl!? These are two of my main requirements for coming back. Not because they are important but because they fucking well promised it was in and working DAYS before release. And it wasnt. And the mount was SHIT AND the ring was bollucks.

Never had any of the major technical problems others reported but the blatent lies were awful and drove me away because I just didnt feel I could actually trust FC in the least

I took the time to read the letter and I felt I wasted my time.

I don't want to sound rude but it sounds more ike a dying game than anything else.

I agree with most of what you said,  I just feel it was not my kind of game to stay with it,  I supported it for 18 months but had to stop paying for a game I did not really play.

My home is Darkfall and the Sentinels.  If you guy's need the best Raid clan on Cimmeria check us out.  Or Come join my ranks in Darkfall and get prepared to be amazed.

I agree, the game still need a lot more content. I played it for 9 months and then I just have the feeling that I done almost everything so I got bored and went back to EQ2 again.

I will buy the expansion because I think that is what AoC really needs. Particularly a lot more group dungeons, you can only run the current so many time.

And running Sanctum over and over with high level chars is just boring. Sanctum is a nice dungeon and one of the best in the game but there 20 be 20 more like it (well, not exactly like it but as well made and fun). Unfortunately are there too many prison colonies and scorpion caves instead, and even counting the bad dungeons it isn't enough.

Also there are way too few quests even with the new zones, when you level up an alt you have to do the same thing all over again.

So the game will need at least 1 expansion to be what it can be. I do think that the combat is fun and that the lore works but doing the same thing over and over just gets boring. And while a new starting area would be nice I would prefer that they actually makes 3 different paths to lvl 80 instead so you actually could stay in Cimmeria or Stygia the whole time without hopeless grinding.

Also could they made the guildcitys better, you should be able to customize them to look like you want with npcs, skins of buildings and where you place them, and you should be able to put trophys in the main hall.

Lastly should they work a little more on the conversation trees. I like them but it is rare that what you say actually matters.
