How about a Demo? Basically, a single player Demo of DarkFall with a single race and starter zone, scripted PKers who comes by from time to time, decent crafting spots, goblins/zombies/trolls with good AI. Demo would not have a time limit. Player could play as long as they wants and once they feels confortable with the game mechanic, well he can buy DarkFall and join the MMO server.
I'm actually serious. It's somewhat easy to make.
I have not seen the results of the 10 day free trial cards on EU yet but I would really like to avoid a Free Trial. It would be terrible.
I'm not gonna elaborate too much on the morality and ethics behind this "idea" of yours because this could go on forever ; so i'm just gonna touch the issue of players that will try the "single player demo", will buy the game and after the month is over and are unsatisfied will claim a refund based on false advertising . In lamest terms : the experience of the single playerversion does not depict an accurate portrait of the actual Massive Multiplayer Online experiencewhich completely changes the whole concept of the game and that is a situation that AV could find themselves into should they go that way.
On the light side of things if they do decide to go with that idea they wouldn't find themselves in a situation too unfamiliar to them (double-billing, being blacklisted by major credit card companies etc, etc)
And for the record the 10 day trial is the best idea they had so far (yeah i know it's limited to Greece and not every potential customer can get access to it but it's A) Better than nothing and speaking volumes for the company's decisions so far)
P.S.Next time leave the picture in ,it's there for a reason

The way I see it is that most veterans want to see the trial implemented in a way that severely limits the trial user, giving them an inaccurate portrayal of the game.
I really, really want to try DF and give it a fair shot. I am not willing to do so from a restricted environment in a game that has seen so much controversey since its inception.
If I am going to plunk down the cash for your game, your meaning AV, then I want to see what the game has to offer to me that others do not. Restricting the trial defeats that purpose, leaving the user with an unclear and hazy picture of what the unrestricted game is truly like.
We don't care if you have a hazy view. You aren't ruining our game, we just want to find a system that works.
I don't see how a bunch of naked, skillless newbies running around could be a threat to the game. In fact I would think you guys would love it. Their would be a lot more newbies for veterans to gank. And thats really what this game is about, veterans ganking newbies.

Or flooding the economy, or farming for mains, or griefing new players who actually pay for it(legit, but not when there are 1000s of kids doing it. Any free trial that is supplied through online will have thousands upon thousands of people play it. ) Server crashs from those thousands. Im down for a trial. Just make it 5 bucks and all issues will be solved. If you can't shell out 5 bucks you probably aren't very serious about buying the game even.
We don't care if you have a hazy view. You aren't ruining our game, we just want to find a system that works.
Who is "we"? You certainly don't speak for everyone else.
Regarding your comments about the 5 buck trial price, I'm fairly certain it's already been mentioned by myself and a few others in this thread that we would be willing to pay that in a heartbeat in order to trial.
You seem a little hostile for no real reason, not sure why you singled out my above statement but you seem to have misread the context in which it was meant. No ill will was intended.

Forgive me for hostility, I'm just used to being in troll defense mode. Anyway the way I read it the first time was that you just wanted a free trial as in go to a link on a website and click it. As many people are suggesting.
Been hearing a lot of suggestions lately about a "Free Trial" and no matter how I look at it.....I don't think it would work.....
I mean, if you allow trial accounts to all join NA-1 or EU-1, there will be a massive chaos on the server. PKers will be raining down killing everything in their way....yeah....
Then there's the suggestion of a "Trial Server" but then again....remember when DarkFall launched? You know.....50 people fighting over the same goblin spawn then one guy attacks another player by mistake and gets attacked by all the other players in the area for the kill.
Wouldn't that turn off more players?
And then I was pretty much looking around the MMORPG.com forum and I saw that thread "Need more solo-content in MMOs" and it sort of gave me an idea.....

Quite frankly, I haven't tried a single "Free Trial" where I could actually do enough to tell wether or not I liked the game. Always ending up buying before realizing it's crap and leaving the game. Demos are pretty easy to make and doesn't cause any trouble both server-side and community-wise.
Beside, knowing the DarkFall community, it would be possible to make multiple accounts in order to farm alignements or make easy gold (starter quests).
Thoughts?
/shrug why not?
EQ had a single player tutorial area at launch where you ran around learning mechanics from NPCs, and this is just an extended idea of that.
Charging $5 for it would be a good idea to make it viable.
I'd say EVE system would work the best (no client payment just subscription), but it looks like AV isn't ready for it...
And there are people around who stopped to play DF. You can try to ask them to loan their accounts for a month subscription. If you'll refuse to give it back later they always can ask AV to ban you for hacking the account, hehe...
Any type of short-term trial would work, whether paid or free, assuming the free trials would have access to clans. There's a clan on NA-1 called NEW. They operate solely for showing NEW players the ropes. NEW recruits are allowed to stay in the clan for a maximum of 30 days, then are shipped off to a fighting/political clan. It's sorta like boot camp for Darkfall. These trial players could avoid the goblin grind altogether and head over to NEW for a bit, learn the ropes, see how they like things.

You probably don't know how chaotic NEW is. About 5 new members a day, 10-15 players a day on week-ends. Chat is filled with thousands of questions which often goes to the extent where we can't answer them effectively (to the point where Mumble is strongly recommanded), ressources nodes are empty 90% of the time AND ALL THESE PLAYERS BOUGHT THE GAME. Yes, he joined around the same time NEW started I believe (mid-october?). So what you are saying is that a "free trial' shouldn't show the gamer what the game is really like? Hide them from the truth so when they buy the real account they can get ganked? Because then the company already scooped a few bucks from them and it don't matter if they stay or not?
I have a better question. When are the free trials gonna start? I recall all the fanboys telling us that there would be a free trial from day one. Because Taco was so sure of his game and product was perfect?

What DF looks like to a new player for about 5-10 days: Grind, grind, grind, bank, bank, bank, get PK'ed, get PK'ed, get PK'ed, grind, grind, bank, grind, farm, farm, farm, quest, bank, farm, farm, farm, grind, PK'ed, grind, gring, bank.
A demo would be there to provide them with a decent challenge without forcing the players to "quickly grind as much as they can before their 10 free days run out". They get to learn the game, learn the basis, what to do, what not to do so once they get thrown into the DF universe, they would know what to expect.
Scripted PKer in a demo should be fairly easy and should create the feeling of "danger" DF has to offer.
Though as someone suggested, a single-player island might be somewhat of a good idea. Still need an "Help" chat tab though.

I'm all for a $5 two week trial.
Make games you want to play.

I would pay the whole monthly fee for a trial month.
Then if I like it pay for the full game the second month.

Maybe they could force everyone into a TRIAL clan. so theyd be easy to spot and easily gankable.
