My first experiences with PVP

TerranahTerranah Member UncommonPosts: 3,575

A few days ago I was feeling kind of bored with doing quests so I decided to check out some pvp action in S2 and headed to New Gallows.  I got the warning that I was entering a pvp zone on my screen so I started to pay a little more attention to my surroundings as I approached the city.  I stopped off at the gas station leading into town thinking it would be a perfect place for an ambush and waited.  No one shows up, so I get bored and decide to circle the town.  That's when I discover the little faction encampments on the outskirst of town.  I find my own Chota encampment and start doing some faction missions.

So I'm out there on the prairie killing ants when I hear the sound of a bullet go whistling by my head.  At first I didn't realize what it was, so I stop and start looking around.  Then I see this guy on a horse with a rifle pointed at me a ways off and I hear a couple more bullets go whizing by my head.  He is not red to me so he is technically an ally...

Anyway, I am out there in the open so I look around quickly and see these tall little hills.  I start running for them, bobbing and weaving.  I take a couple hits, but I heal as I crest the hill and hide on the other side.  I go into stealth mode (athletics is maxed) and pray that it works since I had never used it to evade another player.  I see the guy on horseback come riding up to the hill and look around.  He starts to run around the hill, and I skirt the hill to the opposite side, playing cat and mouse.  He looks around some more and then to my suprise lopes off toward New Gallows.

I come off the hill, my heart is kinda pounding with excitement and I feel kinda giggly for hiding and surviving.  I decide to head back to the gas station and hide over there, so I run back to my encampment and get my horse.  When I get to the gas station, I see another Chota, 5 or 6 levels above me,  on a motorcycle.  We start chit chatting and I tell him about my close encounter.  But he seems more interested in whether or not I'm a 'real girl'.  He asks me 5 times atleast.  I get the impression he's so horny he'd hump a patch of dirt if it was the right shape.  Anyway, we part ways, and after a time I get bored and decide to circle New Gallows again.  I see the same Chota on the other side of New Gallows and we both are disappointed we hadn't seen any action.  Then he gets off his motorcycle and walks over to and says, "I'm real sorry about this."  "About what?" I ask, but as I'm typing he stabs me in the back, literally, killing me.

I lay there in shock, feeling betrayed.  I tell him, "So your 5 levels above me and you stab me in the back, that seems kinda cowardly."

I respawn and head over to the gas station to get my horse.  Then I hear a couple bullets go whistling by my head again.  I run into the garage and peak out and there is that guy who had been on the horse earlier taking potshots at me.  Damn it.  So I sit there and he takes a few more shots and even though I feel like I'm behind a wall he is still hitting me, so I retreat further in.  A minute or so passes and next thing I know he is peaking his head into the doorway of the garage, lol.  I jump out, trip him, break his armor and unleash all my rage and frustration from earlier on him.  And then he's dead.  MY FIRST KILL, WOOT!  I see his horse parked out front so I send him a little tell, "Don't forget your horse..."

Predictably he comes back a few minutes later, shooting and this time trying to keep his distance.  I retreat deeper into the garage, go stealth and sneak outside and around the corner and come up on his back side.  I start swinging and he turns around and starts backing up, but gets pinned between the wall of the garage and something leaning up against the wall.  A moment later he is dead again. Hehe.  I think he'll be back, so I go back into the garage.

A minute or two later, who shows up but that traitor Chota who killed me!  I am getting ready to attack him when some girl in a miniskirt and blouse comes running up to the stable manager to get her horse.  My Chota nemesis shoots her from his bike and she whips out two pistols and starts doing her best Lara Croft Tombraider immitation.  Then the Vista that I killed shows up and he starts shooting.  At this point its a free for all, everyone is shooting everywhere and I decide it's the perfect time to attack someone 5 or so levels above me, so I run out and attack the Chota, but I get knocked down.  Then Lara Croft goes down.  Then the Vista.  Crap this isn't going well at all. I jump up heal and try to trip the Chota, but he doesn't fall down.  I'm getting my teeth kicked in so I try to dodge around him.  I try another knockdown and....what do you know..he falls flat on his ass!  I start whooping his ass, kicking the crap out of him, but with about 30 percent health he jumps up and starts fighting back.  A couple seconds later I'm dead.

He leans over my body, examines me for a second.  Then says, "Hmmm..."

When I respawn, the Vista I had killed earlier is standing close by so I tell him that bastard Chota killed me, and to my surprise he says, "Yeah he ambushed me earlier too."  I'm like, "No shit?  He stabbed me in the back earlier."  We both chuckle at this and then I say, "We should join forces."  So he sends me an invite and we team up, rifleman and melee.  We head back out to the gas station but the Chota traitor is gone.  But then here comes a guy 9 levels above us riding up on his horse.  LOL.  And the fun times continue...

Great write up! Loved it. Sad to hear about the encounter with such a lowly member of the male gender though. I had the impression FE was a bit more mature than most games, population wise. Guess you bump into unchecked hormones everywhere occasionaly.

Good example of what ffa / world pvp adds to a mmorpg; an uncertainty aspect, an incentive for interaction and cooperation and thrill.

Wall of text... wall of BS presicely . Everyone and his mother knows that FE has craptastic pvp and no endgame (ok apart from notorious fanbots like DB or this gayass horse lover).

Some how I doubt someone made a screen name on this site 5 years ago to hype up FE.  While you just joined yesterday.

HHmm Who am I going to believe?

If you think it suck why don't you explain why instead of just spewing out crap with no reason.

Not saying FE has great PVP as I haven't played it but.

I am curious what benefits you get from PvP?

Do you gain XP?  Do dead enemies drop anything?  Do you get anything else?

How does the town control system work?

That is the kind of write about the games PvP I would like.

But to the OP it was a nice little short story!

PVP rewards? None... no XP, no stuff, just some retarded faction farming.

There is not even any serious death penalty in this game.

And yes I have played it.

Are there plans to expand on the PvP system to make it more enjoyable?

Is the gameplay of the PvP enjoyable?

Right now, Fallen earth is a wonderful and extremely enjoyable mmo.. until you hit 45.

The current endgame pvp system is horrible, there is no reason to pvp beyond a reoccurring repair bill and the lack of armor / weapons at 164 skill is disappointing for all specs.

Around 80% of my guild and nearly all my friends have cancelled after being 45 for two some odd weeks.  Fallen Earth has tons of potential, but the devs have a endgame system in place that just doesn't work.

Here is the game in a nutshell...  Fun till 45, get bored, unsub until the next sector comes out, fun till the next level cap, reach level cap and repeat.

If they can come up with something that impresses me before Swtor releases, I'll stick with it.... But the way things are going now, it's not likely.

    Correction:

Through pvp you access the same gear progression as other top games - armor, weapons, even mounts through their pvp leveling system. At later levels you fight over entire towns....and when I say you can get gear...I mean a lot, different for each of the 6 factions.

It sounds like it is almost too easy to get to 45?

I am still debating between this or DF when I have more time to play a game.  That and I wanted to wait a while see how both games did after launch.

I liked the open world sound of both games but I do enjoy PvP with a purpose.  I know in AC when I played it sometimes the community would create isn't own event which made PvP more enjoyable but in the it is a lot more fun if you have some varied things to do build into the game pvp wise.

I really like the concept WoW's and WAR's instanced PvP (battlegrounds or whatever).  But balancing issues, lack of other things I enjoyed doing, and the fact those games reply too much on level and gear made it less enjoyable.  I really hated when you would get into and instance of "tweaks" and it would be so uneven it wouldn't be enjoyable.  Seemed like only about 25% of the matches I played were competitive enough to be enjoyable.

I really like the sound of an open world, lootable pvp that gives XP so you can level in pvp (but I would like a few items being safe no full loot), some siege type capture points, and some battleground (CtF, zone control, etc.)

But I haven't seen a game that offers all of that.

Darkfall is your closest bet on the PvP end at the moment.  Darkfall really is a good PvP game despite all the poo people fling at it.   I personally don't recommend FE if your not into crafting, you'll blow through the levels and most of the content is super easy with a combat-based character.  However, if you dig crafting... FE has a ton to keep you busy.  And the act of creating new armor and exploring the different crafting branches will slow your level progression down by a ton.  Other peoples opinions may very, but thats mine.

I'm sure they intend to spice up the PvP system and make it more meaningful in the future.  And it can certainly be a fun system to play with, although it goes a little over the top with stuns (imo).

I'm currently playing both games, and I'm leaning heavily towards Fallen Earth.  It's gameplay does a better job of capturing and immersing you in the setting(and the settings much better), its a far more relaxing type of gameplay, the weapons/armor systemis excellent, the mount system is excellent, and the crafting is excellent.  But if I had tons of time to play (grinding skills sucks) and was super into PvP as much as I used to be a couple years ago, I'd definitely go Darkfall.

I don't have tons of time.  That is probably my biggest worry over Darkfall.

Maybe like 5-10 hours a week in a few hour increments mostly late at night when the family is sleeping.

My worry with FE would be lack of things to do and lack of competitive (pvp) things to do.  I am more of a combat and exploration type person.  I do like to socialize if there is a good community that likes to part take in good quests together.

It doesn't sound like either game has a good pve system.  I like asheron's call style pve the most probably followed by DoaC.

Get Darkfall, interesting and extremely  good PvP, full loot, open world and massive sieges. The PvE in Darkfall isn't fantastic however it's better than fallen earths and can only improve with the expansion coming out tomorrow!

Hey guys.  Sorry my initial post got so long.  I can read and type pretty fast and sometimes I forget there are slow readers.  Anyway, no alterior motive to my post other than to share something fun that happened to me.  My feeling on FE's pvp is a little mixed and tentative.

First off, I think when you kill peeps you get death toll points and I saw a death  toll vendor in the city.  Unfortunately I am still too low experience wise to see what is on the death toll vendor but I imagine it's gear and or buffs.

Dying is not completely painless.  You respawn at another location, lose all your buffs and take damage to gear.  Then you've got to run back to the battle or find a garage and fetch your mount.  I know this doesn't seem like much of anything to a hardcore player, but I am not hardcore.  I would classify myself as a casual pvp player, who tends to like low to mid level pvp because I think once you get to end game all the dots and uber gear, and all the other ways the hardcore distinguish themselves from the rest of us kind of ruins the balance and fun for me.

Combat in FE is a mixed bag.  It can be fun, but it can also be very clumsy in terms of interface.  For instance, having to keep my aim on the enemy and then look down to activate skills is kind of frustrating, because in the time you took to look down and hit a number key your opponent has moved out of the way.  It just seems awkward to me, but maybe others don't have this problem.  I can hit the first 6 keys with some reliability, but all the others I have to take my eyes off the screen and that can equate to a miss or death for me.

The second thing that bothers me is sometimes I hit a key to activate a skill there is a pause or lag or it won't activate at all.  This happens sometimes.

Another thing that bothers me is I can't see what effects are on my opponent.  For instance, if I have put a bleed on them, I would like a visual cue under their name that shows this.  Or if I break their armor, I want to see that I have broken their armor.  But right now I just don't see it.  Usually in most of the mmo's I've played you see these things under the enemies name.

Another negative would be that I spent more time looking for pvp than actual combat.

Now having listed off a few negatives, my experience the other day was a lot of fun.  So I'll keep playing and see what happens.

Actually... faction based armor is all subpar compared to the 2 piece crafted sets you can buy.  Weapons are exactly the same... depending on your combat build, there are really only 2 options on armor and 2-3 for weapon.

Faction towns are a joke with the current system.. there is no attacking, killing guards or taking the city by force. It's all based on doing missions in the city and getting the higher faction % to claim it. Even when you do, the vendors sell the same old stuff you can get from nodes and other world vendors :(

Once they figure out where endgame is going and make it rewarding, the game will be fine and I'll play again.

I love this game. Endgame is always an issue with new MMOs, shoot...even old (damn you WAR!) but they've done a great job with the game and thankfully I am no where near 45. When I get around 45 it will get better. This game casts my vote for MMO of the year; it has been awhile since I have really enjoyed an MMO well actually.....there is always Hello Kitty Online.

Wait, your telling me theres no endgame pvp in a new release that is capped at level 45?  Huh, its all pointless?

Good thing the pve is fun.

And the pvp...well i can go in as a team and we can all pvp eachother if no one else is around.  Even if we are all in the same guild and on the same team.  It makes things very interesting, especially long range sniping, so far away that the other guys name doesnt show.

It all makes things interesting, the guild vs guild and friendly fire aspects.  Much more fun to personally know the people your killing, and be able to converse with them, than the faction vs faction stranger killing.

But yeah, theres no endgame, and there may not be a themepark instanced pvp endgame planned for all i know.  Dont get me wrong id love to see this game with a theme park activity or two, but it would probably cheapen what is currently a pretty solid pve game with the possibility of pvp.

They said they would like to go as high as 150 for the level cap, including expansions, and the GM's are all level 60-65 in game.

So they still could blow it, and take too long to get more content in, or ruin the game with the new content.

For now i agree with the OP's summary of how pvp in FE can get messy, and interesting very fast.  No you dont get fat loot from pvping, or anything really of value, other than factional points, and if you are not interested in that you should probably become interested if you want access to AP quests and mutations (skills)....

Okay, enough of reading other people's stories. It's time to join the game after a long break - I think I kinda overdosed it during alpha and beta stage but now I'm ready to jump back in wastelands!

    So, cya there people. :)
