I bought the game and I don't know what to do..
As like everyone, I want to enjoy the brutal experience in Darkfall !! 
However, I just made a character (Wolve race, I don't know the name sorry forgot 
) and then just successfully login before suddenly downtime for another patch.
There are few things and I don't know what to do:
1.) How do I switch to 3rd person view ?? so I can see how my character look like??
2.) What should I do when I just went into the game?? Like all I notice is nothing but a tower in silverspine.
3.) Actually I was thinking to re-make my character, is there a way I can delete my original character ?? Any consequence?? coz I heard that you cannot choose the name back again anymore right?
4.) Anyone give me a hand ?? I know there is a guild name "NEW" but how do I join them?? or anyway to contact them?? Or anyone here is recruiting now and willing to help out a newbie ?? 
Basically these are the few questions for only login for 10 min. And since the server is down I might ask these questions fast as well !!

1) You cant switch automatically , equip a staff or a bow or have nothing equiped you switch to first person, equip a melee weapon or use gathering tools you switch to third person. You get a free view around your char if you riding, sailing, driving and resting. You rest if you choose the rest skill and activate it through left mouse click.
2) Talk to the NPC , "city chancellor" or something. he is next to the bindstone and he will give you starter quest to kill 4 goblins.
3)You can delete char in the game launcher same location where you choose the server. Name can't be resused.
4)Ask in trade channel (the only channel all races can read) about who to contact for the clan NEW then send a tell to these person ; /tell firstname lastname message

(btw downtime is cause of the expansion all are hyped about at the moment... expect big downtime...well your timing to start Darkfall is bad or perfect depending on how you look at it =P)

The first thing you do in darkfall.. Figure out how the hotbars work. It's the most annoying thing when you start out, everything takes ages.. Unless you bind things to your hotbars.
Spells, items and acitons can all be bound freely to the hotbar. I recommend putting rest at 0. Like everyone else.
My rest is at #7 on the hotbar, don't ask me why haha. Plus, I'm one of those "right click to block" kind of guys since I'm pretty dirty fighting with a board and sword.
Actually, now that I think of it, I think I've remapped a lot of keys haha.
First of all, welcome to Darkfall man! I'm sure you'll love the game like the rest of us do.
Anyway, on to your questions:
1) You can only do third person view when wielding a melee weapon or when resting. When wielding a melee weaon, it's over your shoulder 3rd person. When you are resting, you can move the camera around your character. This is the ONLY mode (resting) where you can rotate the camera around your character (and I guess when recalling).
2) Talk to the NPCs and get starter quests. Go kill some goblins, get your feet wet with how combat works, try interacting with objects, figure out your hotbar, figure out how to equip weapons/attack/loot/etc.
3) You can't choose the same name but you can just delete your current character and make a new one. I'd wait until after the expansion comes out today/tomorrow because they are adding racial abilities, and you may want to see what they are before you choose your race.
4) Yes, there is a guild called NEW, and they're located in the city of Hammerdale (if I remember correctly). Just send a message in racial alliance chat and I'm sure someone will point you in the right direction.
Again, welcome to the game, I hope you enjoy your stay, and remember, BANK BANK BANK BANK BANK your shit, and don't go crazy if you lose a bunch of stuff, it happens to EVERYONE.
The first thing I do is re-bind a lot of the keys. I believe the original setting has the gui toggle on the 2nd mouse button. I like to change it to the middle button and set the parry/block to the second mouse button. If you have more buttons, you can remap the use button and the autorun button to your mouse.
Also, there is a hotbar function to go to the next and previous hotbar that is by default unmapped. I like to map those so that it's easy to switch hotbars with a push of a button. Then you can have a hotbar for each type of weapon that you use and access them easily.
The councillor NPC where you first log in has some starter quests for you. It's good to take those as they kinda walk you through some of the basics of the game. They also lead to some gathering quests which give you gathering tools so you don't have to buy them.
When you go to kill goblins, they are a smarter than mobs in most other games and tend to run around and kite you. Try to avoid running into the middle of their spawning area. It's easier to kill them from the perimeter with range and/or melee.
Also, try to get into a clan early, as a good support system is very helpful in this game. Bank often. When you are out in the world keep scanning the horizon for potential incoming gankers.

Visual limits and the visual sensory deficit designed into this game is another one of its richest features. When you rest, as mentioned, you have 360 camera view capability, but between that and the limited 3rd person view when holding a crafting item or combat sword, you pretty much see what your looking at.
Make sure you chat in the 'race alliance chat' channel in game. There are many new people there too.
The starter quest guy will give you a range of quests and send you some NPC in his town to do more quests. All these quests have easy rewards and introduce you to the basics of combat, crafting, skinning, harvesting. Each race has three starter towns so you can repeat these quests in two more towns for easy rewards and skills, plus a bit of gold. Eventually he will send you to a less safe area but still protected by a tower, here you will face some others types of Mobs like Kobolds, Trolls etc.
Also visit your capital city and pick up all the title quests becasue they are mob killing based mostly and these mobs are the ones you will be training on. You can only buy some advanced skill in the capital cities also, not available in starter areas.
Hey guys, I really want to share my experience for the first 1-2 hours in the game.
The interface and hotkey to be honest is pretty horrible, but I think the UI should be more friendly in the future and will be more polish. Also, that is not a game killer thing and most of the people already said is just the matter of time to get use to it !!
Also, graphically, this game won't makes you WOW, however is not as bad as I thought. Heard that the Dev will do some graphic enhance, and from all the news I read so far I am pretty impress by the Dev which they keep giving us something new to improve the game. Keep it up !!
Speaking of Questing/Killing mobs, got a funny story here. I never have been die so much in early game as this one. In fact I never die so many times in one MMO game than this one !! HAHA !! I just went out to do the first quest which is killing goblin, omg the dev made this npc as smart ass as like human !!!! They freaking kite to the more goblin and then few goblins together will jump on you !! Frustrated but thats where you learned a lot of combat about this game.
So far thats my impression, more to come hopefully I will enjoy more to the game.
It looks like it may be a steep learning curve for you so I hope you have a thick skin
Get into NEW clan ASAP and get a patient teacher. Don't get upset when you just died and got looted, that's just pixeles after all. Rather ask yourself a question: "Why did I just die and what can I do to avoid it next time"

The NEW guild wil help you with all if not most of your needs. But I think it's only on the NA1 server (North American).
I wish I had a dollar every time a new player mentions how much tougher the mob AI is. It caught me by surprise too! I think that's one of the first slaps in the face a new DFO player gets, soon followed by getting PKed and looted. Both experiences definitely make you concentrate more and make the game much more exciting and enjoyable in my opinion.
