Darkfall or Fallen Earth

LyikosLyikos Member UncommonPosts: 52

Which would you recommend and why?

I just got a new laptop decent enough to play good games on and would like to get into an MMO. I like sandbox games with crafting, I was hoping to make it in time for the Fallen Earth free trial but it seems like I missed it. Is Darkfall doing a free trial anytime soon?

Darkfall will not have a free trial anytime soon.

I have a spare FE Trial Key if you would like it, just let me know and I'll send it by way of PM.

You both should buy Darkfall, and both buy it from my referral link.  That is of course if you can handle Darkfall's awesomeness.

    I'm so tempted Ruyn.

Everything I read about the game is sounding great these days, I have to admit I used to be a pretty big hater, but I am slowly starting to become a fan.

I was considering buying it this weekend, but I might have to wait till mid next-week now depending on how a few personal issues pan out over the next few days.

Hi Euphoryk, please PM me your free trial key. That would be awesome because I rather try the game before I'm out 50 bucks. Thanks!

They're coming out with a lot of improvements to Darkfall.  I know it's hard to spend money on a game without trying it first, but you can gather a ton of info watching the youtube videos, checking out the online reviews, and player reviews.  Afterall, we've probably all spent more than $50 going out to the movies on any given night.  Just a thought.

I've tried both fallen earch and Darkfall, and as I was looking for more of a sandboxy game with an open world, skill-based, crafting heavy, combat heavy, very player-driven, Darkfall beat out Fallen Earth.  I found it's environment, though very non-forgiving due to how player-driven it is, its been one of the most rewarding game-play experiences in a very long time. If it's crafting you're into, Darkfall has, in addition to every other skill and thing attainable in the game, a very broad and deep crafting network of necessary game-play items, from house doors, weaponry, siege weapons, armor, enchanting, ship building, etc.

Give it a shot. Im not one to shun plunking down some cash on entertainment when a friggin movie costs $10 a pop.  Not having a trial is a cheap reason not to try, unless your really really broke, but regardless, this game is one that even if you stop after a couple months, you would have gotten your entertainment dollar out of.

Edit: and as an aside, I heard rumors of a future content add where you can set up a vendor shop, maybe brick and mortar, in the world to sell your wares from as well.  Thats something I'm hoping for as well.

I'm currently keeping myself occupied with Dragon Age as I was becoming really bored with mmos and their lack of decent and meaningful player interaction. However I have my sights set on Darkfall as my next foray into mmos. Everything I read about this game indicates to me that it is everything an mmo should be......and it seems to be getting better all the time. I've never understood the point of most of the other standard pve mmos where people just play against the computer all the time. Mmos should be about player interaction and Darkfall looks like the best option for that at the moment.

Fallen Earth on the other hand felt like a real letdown to me. I tried to enjoy it but it just seemed so boring and pointless. Something the OP should bare in mind is that Fallen Earth is not a proper sandbox game. It does however have a big open gameworld to wander around in. Unfortunately there is little to do except the standard quests, killing rather boring mobs and clicking on harvest nodes. The crafting is also extremely weak and totally over-rated. The players dont have any real incentive to interact with each other so it felt like I was playing a fairly lifeless single player game while I watched other people do the same. You can fight other players for control of faction towns later on though......but who cares when Darkfall lets you do that anytime anywhere. The OP will discover all of this when he tries the trial.

I guess it depends on whether the OP wants to play a game based on interaction with people or whether he wants to play against the computer with human interaction as an afterthought. Darkfall looks so much more exciting than Fallen Earth. I have read a number of really interesting experiences people have posted from Darkfall......situations that would never happen in other restrictive mmos like Fallen Earth.......things that can only come about when players are free to interact with each other in positive and negative ways.

Don't listen to the guys with the referral links, you're not supposed to advertise them on these forums

Even on a date, with popcorn and soda, I've never spent 50.00

DAMN, you beat me to it, an besides, buy the game play in beta and do not pay a monthly fee till it is done. How many months do you want to play for free?
