Is melee combat messed up?

I've been reading all these posts and not one of them says anything about melee combat or archery. Did this patch/expansion what ever it was mess with that, was it already bad or is it just fine?

I want to play this game but all people seem to talk about is magic and I have no desire to use magic. So if I don't use magic is this game still fun?

Last time I played in August melee combat was bad and unsatisfying. Each swing was the same poorly done animation unless you hit the T key to do a downward slash. There was also a small delay between seeing your character swing and hearing the sound and blood splatter.

melee is fine, always has been

you still need magic for buffs and stuff

Melee and archervy were buffed considerably in this last patch.

Have had no issues with melee combat post patch. But of course that is the only combat I know and have only played it post patch. So far having used all three melee, magic, and archery I can say melee seems the way to go at this time for pve encounters.

No they weren't. Magic was just nerfed to uslessness

The changes to melee were the addition of an anti block skill and critical hits. You get a critical hit on the fifth hit after landing 4 consecutive hits on the same player. It rewards player skill now which is great and has casued me to win a couple fights. Nothing like getting a crit hit followed by a serging hit

Archery also has an anti block skill.
