This is a coverstaion I had with a person on the offical forums who realized why I was complaining about the lack of balance with the new patch. His text will be in orange mine will be in blue

The game have been balanced in a good way and mages havent been nerfed that much. If you want to be able to kill a guy in post patch scale + or whatever, you have to use your brain and some good aim.
Isnt there that one damage type that noone has any really protection against? Yes, arcane damage! So cast spells that deals arcane damage on those who uses heavy super ultra armour, like meteor strike and impale!
I used the whole yesterday on training different tactics against magekillers and all of the other specs, and i can tell you that going as a mage isnt impossible in any way.

Xpiher- I want the game to be balanced. I don't care if there is still a way to kill someone in scale+ using infliction or arcane damage spells. You know why? Because that makes 90% of magic in the game useless. I already came up with the entire spell list that you can use against people who wear metal armor its below

other than metro strike and acid rain (minus the ray spells which aren't that viable in most situations) the most affect spells in that list are schools that mage killers can still use. Thats another problem. The game isn't balacned when this patch could of easily been the balancing patch for the game, but AV had to fuck it up by making anyone who wears scale a tank against a elemental mage user.
See thats what you people don't get though. When 90% of damage spells are useless against 1 armor type, the game isn't balanced. This can easily be fixed by tweaking the resistances on metal armor slightly while making debuffs combat useable, or keep debuffs the way they are and reduce the elemental resistances by more.
I could understand the flak I'm getting if I was asking for removal of changes instead of tweaks but I'm not.

I agree completely with the OP.
I see his point though... it seems like a "quick fix" or "work-a-around" rather than a true re-balancing. Could bite AV in the foot... I hope it's a temporary measure and that they will do an honest job of rebalancing in the future... otherwise I suggest they rename this game to Brokenfall.

Aventurine had to set a number to every skil, spell armour, weapon and so on for this expansion.
Of course will some numbers not match, and Aventurine will fix them. It is a natural thing for any big expansion. Give it a few days and we will see some patches.
Wait, so those of us who have chosen not to use magic and instead focused on melee/archery get the upper hand for ONCE and all of sudden the game is broken? All I have to say about this is now you know how we felt since Magic became so OP'd we were useless. It's nice to see the shoe on the other foot... though yes, it is wrong. Classes do need to be properly balanced. Though for now I hope the melee people kick some ass, they deserve the break after the shit they've gone through being useless.

Yes it sucks. But all you have to do is ride the FOTM. And right now it is scale+. Ride the wave and keep complaining. At least you don't have to reroll a whole new toon! DFO FTW.

And melee was the highest dps and at melee range. The only problem was nuke cycleing and not being able to heal with heavy armor, not protection.

Just because you cant figure out how to play the damn game doesnt mean its broken, instead of qqing on the forums, why dont you play the game and figure out how the changes implemented work, and or dont work, as many of the top pvpers are doing just fine.
Just when I try to give Tacos and AV credit, they, in their most incompetent way, prove me wrong again. Thank goodness Mortal Online is in development so I might consider another outlet.
Edit: And I say that because this laughable patch and how broke it is, isnt isolated to your magic vs.melee; there are many things broke about it.
the mages that spent millions on spell regeants to 24/7 afk grind their magics to 100 on bloodwalls have no interest in learning how to play darkfall, they just wanna cycle aoe schools with the dmg going thru walls and objects like before the patch lol. if they wanted to learn to play the game with any skill they would have long long ago
Did you read the damn patch? Scale armor turns every tom, dick, and harry into a tank against mages. Not everything in the patch is borked, just this and PvE is a little over kill as well. Everything is great IMO

If it really is 90% or anywhere near that then I would agree that something needs to be tweaked. Everyone running around in one armor type is lame.

Sadly like all MMO's Darkfall will always need balancing in the eyes of a few people. Should magic be pointless? no. However as one person said there is a good chance those bitching about the patch making Melee/Archery OP simply could just be those people who thought it takes skill to cycle a few high end spells to down people. Just as Melee found a way when it was overwhelmed by magic I'm sure magic will do quite alright in the game. Magic should be HARD, not something for everyone. As it was before anyone could be good with magic. Now maybe magic will take skill to use, and instead of being the only way to pvp it will take a back seat as more of a supportive role LIKE IT ALWAYS SHOULD HAVE BEEN. There should never be such a thing as a solo player raping with magic. Magic should be used in group settings, and if people can learn to make do with a weaker Melee when it was weaker, Mages can learn to adapt now. Suck it up fella's, you raped us unfairly long enough. Time for a taste of your own medicine.

Ok,So ,i've been playing Darkfall since launch.Because of the nature of the game is had to end up working toward high magic to stay competive (100 fire 100 earth).I really like archery and melee but they didnt get the job done like high magic.Now with the updates it puts melee/archery in line with a mage IMO.I've picked my skills and since i put all that time into leveling magic i will stay this way ...and i do just fine.Magic inst nerfed at all you just got to play smarter and use what you got to your advantage.
Signs of a smart player. I played since beta... and the best times I had in Darkfall were those times before magic became the end all for pvp. When people actually used tactics over magic spam.

Maybe magic is nerfed, maybe it isn't. It's always the same argument though.
Do the people complaining have the skill to play a magic character or were they just relying on the fact that it was extremely OP to hide their faults? Doubt we'll know unless we do extensive testing, which can be done, to measure competence with a magic character.
The point is good players will be able to adapt and change. Those good at what they do won't have much change. Those that used magic to hide their faults at aiming or such will lose their strength because they never had any to begin with.
The biggest problem with the patch seems to be the PvE changes, most with resistence. The wining on the boards about magic being uber nerfed is basically just that whining. Someone made a thread specifically asking about peoples experience and videos and for the most part it really is not that unbalanced.
Looking at the skills it does look like their should of been a few more anti melee skills put it. but it is no where near as bad as the wambulance patients make it seem on the forums.
