LF Good Duo Game for nOOb Girlfriend and myself.

ThorkillThorkill Member Posts: 4

Hello Everyone,

Well I have finally found someone that actually wants to start playing online games with me!!!  I have been playing since UO days.  Quick run down: UO 1 yrs, EQ 2 yrs, Daoc 5 yrs, EQII 2 yrs, WOW 2 yrs, WAR!  I have taken the last year or so off due to being burnt out.....  My girl has never played a game in her life!!! hahahah  This will be fun and frustrating I know but I am actually looking forward to it.

I want to start a NEW game with her and am looking for any suggestions!  I personally think a PVE game is the best for her for baby steps..  My number one choice is LOTR and we even down loaded the free trial and she is enjoyed it.  :-)  I have only done about an hour or two of research on this game but it seems as if it is a good solid game for the two of us.  I am hoping someone out there has some experience with the game and can tell me if this would be a good start for us to Duo???  I would love any input anyone could give  me.

Any other games or suggestions would be appreciated as well.

Thanks in advance,

TK

Since your playing with your girl I suggest something more like Aion since I heard LOTRO has ugly characters and ugly animations but a beautiful world. Aion has great character models and animations and decent looking world with the best pvp (as of 2009) for your daoc fix and since it's her first MMO you want to give her something exciting, not a mellow MMO but a game with exciting world pvp where you both can get ganked at any moment, and you guys can make classes that balance each other and use teamwork in the abyss.

LOTRO isn't all that bad, but it's story heavy.  A few things you didn't mention is, I take it she is new to MMO's but, is she new to games in general? Is she into competitive activities like paintball or kickboxing?  There's a bucket load of variables and there's enough variety in MMO's to wonder.  I think one of the major questions is, is it primarily that she is willing to try MMO's because you play them and wants to play with you or does she want to do something different and you already play them yourself?

Hello and thanks for the replys,

I know nothing of Aion but you can bet I will take a look.  I am not too sure she will function well in a PvP environment due to her inexperience and it might drive me crazy being on the receiving end of the gank game!  hahaha

She has never played computer games period unless farmville counts, much less played paint ball or kick boxed! too funny!  She is just a regular chick trying to keep her man happy!   She just watched Lord of the Rings for the first time with me and loved it!!!  Which is another reason I went with LOTRO...   I figure it is a solid game, good graphics, low stress, and good started to the Mmorpg realm.

Yeh i think Lotro would be a great game for the both of you, aion like you said might be too stressful because of the pvp but its a great game overall. EQ2, Champions or any other newly released game is also great for duoing.

You guys could give Ryzom a chance. It has a 21-day free trial so you could really give it a shot with no money down. :)

It's a very different MMO compared to most. It's considered a sandbox. The crafting system is really good, as is the combat. It's even better when played with another so the two of you would have a lot of fun hanging out together there. The graphics are quite good even by todays standards.

In my opinion it would also be a very good starting game for her. I've always enjoyed it. :P

    www.ryzom.com

I'd say go check it out. :)

Give Guild Wars a try, no monthly fees, cheap and it´s awesome.

It´s easy to learn the basics and then you have a lot to improve, its PvE has videos showing the story and most misions are very original.

And about the landscapes i can just say that i stopped several times just to look at them.

And if finally you want to play some pvp you´ll discover the most tactical PvP in a MMORPG, but that it´s just if you want.

I broke my missus into online gaming with legend of mir. I would suggest wow as that's what my missus enjoyed best in her early days and it eased her into pvp gently with the aid of battlegrounds. Aion is the latest she's playing although she does miss wow. With your previous knowledge of wow it should be a fairly simple process to introduce her to it and reactivating your old account you could use the buddy program to level up quicker.

My other half didnt like the pvp side at first but now the evil side of her has come out and she loves it.

I currently play darkfall myself and wouldnt recommend it if she has no previous gaming experience in mmos or fps games.

Also, play a healer class yourself, it can save a lot of frustrating arguments between the pair of you!

Id say WoW, coz have showd it to 2 girls who both havent played any games rly and both enjoied it from the start.  And thers Bloodelf class for those who cant just play with any other :D thou Elwynn forent is best starting place.

I think LOTRO would be a good game for the both of you, especially if you are thinking more pve.  The community seems pretty nice and there is the fact that it is a relatively well known IP.

LOTRO, WoW, EQ2, Ryzom and a few others are good places to play. Heck even EVE would be good too, it all depends on her and you would know best. If she has a built in calculator in her brain =)

If I was you, I would down load about  5 - 10 different games and do all the footwork before hand, take a game or two and  install it / them on both computers, setup the trial accounts and then both of you create toons and then jump in...play a bit..or till she says no way and move on to the next....

There are tons of options out there. Explore a little, but when you get done come back and tell us your / her experiences

You know you are old when the dev's on the games you play are almost young enough to be your grand-kids.
