For me Eve was a perfect setting. I'm a huge sci-fi fan, have all the sci-fi movies, and I'm a huge geek and techy. So first time I saw Eve Online I thought I found my perfect game. While reading down the list of features I was stunned by all the cool ships, tech, races, etc until I reached the part that said, "play with hundreds of thousands of players in the same persistent universe." Thats where hope started to fall, but I said, I've give it a try it's only $20.
Three years later I'm still loving Eve except the one part I had my doubts about when I first bought it, the community. Eve Online has an epic story with the greatest lore I've ever heard but It all gets pulled down and ruin by the community. The drama is what kills the game and the deeper you get into the corps/alliance battle the more drama you have to put up with and I hate drama. (human drama not the drama that Eve Online lore contains)
Theirs still is hope though. Make Eve Online a single player game with computer simulated markets, pirates, events, etc. The computer simulation would almost mimic real life markets and the pve would be challenging (as CCP has demonstrated with Rogue Drones). I would gladly pay the same $15 a month to play a single player version.

EVE online was a single player game. It was called Elite. Elite then turned to Freelancer. Freelancer then turned to EVE. :P I don't think EVE would be all that amazing as a single player game. I love it for the economy, and to be honest, playing the economy game against the computer is just a big "so what" for me.
So you advocate drama or real pvp?
Both. Without the drama between the players, there'd be less pew pew, which means less pvp, which means less fun for me.
Not saying your wrong but computer simulated markets our extremely more dynamic and challenging then any human could possible make it. So computer ai will always be more challening when compared to humans

Challenging maybe, but none of the satisfaction. :P

So when you play a single player game like Dragon Age (or whatever you lke) you don't have fun fighting a simulated ai?

There ya go, great game. I wish EVE was more like it.
It's pretty fun till you get the "Black Hawk" (or w/e) and you can pretty much destroy entire fleets in a single shot. No need to even have your own fleet. :-/

To be perfectly honest, no.
I play MMO's because of the social-aspect. The drama is fine in a game, it makes it worth playing at times, in my opinion. I absolutely despise single-player games. The only ones I ever remotely enjoyed was the original NWN & Oblivion. But the problem is, in Oblivion, you get so far, you do all this stuff, you get a house, you decorate it, and no one will ever see the amount of work that went into it. No one will know that I spent an hour moving a few spoons around and putting plates on the shelves.
My point is, for me, it's not fun unless I can experience it with others.

Not really. No matter how much they claim AI has advanced in single player games, I still find it very predictable.

I guess is where we disagree which is fine because we each have our own opinion but I still think comp will always pwn humans so I like playing with the leet (comp)

No need to be rude. I was simply stating my reason for playing MMOs. Aren't you posting this topic, with a poll, to get peoples opinions?
I enjoy EVE as it is. I enjoy the fact that other people play it when I do and that there are people to talk to.

In the awesomeness of the internet, people can't see or hear the way you're talking to them, they can only go by the words that you type.
What you said was kind of stiff and I felt like it was uncalled for and slightly rude.
Regardless, I answered your topic, I took your poll & I replied with my opinion.
EDIT: I should mention that half the fun, in a lot of peoples opinions, is the fact that they can play these games with other people on the internet. I wouldn't be hanging out on mmorpg.com if I didn't like the massively multiplayer portion of the RPGs. It's nice to be able to complete goals and such with others.
I'm sure in many peoples opinions single-player RPG's and other types of games are quite entertaining, but in my 23 years of existence I've always enjoyed doing things with other people. If that's a disorder, well it's one I've not heard of.

Actually, humans being social creatures and pack animals, those who spend most of their time alone is a disorder. I forget the name, but spending too much time alone can actually develop into schizophrenia.
lol
You might want to see a doctor before it gets worse.

People are social animals, and we do require personal contact with others. I really don't see why anyone would be so against playing with others. I do foresee one thing though, and that is that this topic may very well be closing in the near future.
So lets take a PVP focused sandbox and turn it into a offline single player game that focuses on its weakest feature pve?
Are you trolling?

Like stated above humans require contact with other humans in order to develop. Check some of the studies they have done on isolation both on children and adults and check the results. We require levels of intimacy in order to further ourselves as a society either through friendship, relationships, marriage whatever. Humans since the beginning have lived as social groups and not alone, and despite if you believe creationism or evolution, its apparent in both.
Anywho back to EvE. A bad community can be said about any mmo. Each game has players you get along with great and others that make you want to beat them with a sledge hammer before your IQ drops to low. Its no different than real life. Think of school at any point in your life, there are people you hung out with and others that you pretended to be reading a book just so they wouldnt come talk to you, it stands to reason the same would be in any social based game.
My Guild Wars 2 Vids
So.. You spend the time to post this topic, poll included, and then you don't want anyones opinion unless they are agreeing with you.
I'm not what most would consider a real social person. I'm no hermit, I interact just fine, but I hate people in general.
That said, I would have never tried EVE if it were just a single-player game. If you can't play the market against other "real people" or shoot down a real asshole that really exists somewhere... what's the point?
I understand that it's still a lot of fun in a single-player type game.. But it would be missing a lot. A game like that wouldn't keep drawing me back.

Maybe 2 version, that was a hard work around.
