I played Aion when it first came out and did the beta previously and I left originally because of the community originally and the spammers and was wondering what the current state of the game is with regards to this and more. I think a community really makes or breaks a game (been loving the community in LOTRO for example) and also how end game is. Thanks for any help it's much appreciated!

On the spam and botting issue, NC has improved alot. Many bots got banned recently, and I have not noticed any spam those last days. For the community, it's probably server dependant, and it's a very subjective matter. Aion may not have the best MMO community, but I've seen much worse, I'd say it's not so bad overall.
Check my blog on mmorpg.com.
As it is with many MMOs, your view of the "community" will improve drastically if you find yourself a good guild (legion) and start hanging out with people who are actually worth being around. I had a few issues with the community at launch, but after the trial month ended, it got ALOT better.
Also, NCsoftwest has been making alot of headway against spammers and botters. They are still there, because lets face it, roaches are one hell of a problem once theyve got a solid infestation going... but its nowhere near as bad as it was in Sept/Oct.
The game and its community will improve over time, of this I am faily confident. Its just a question of how long are you willing to wait? As I mentioned at the beginning of this post, finding cool people to play with makes the wait alot more bearable.
The spam is practically non-existant on Triniel and the sell stores that the gold companies put up to get banned if you report them. won't happen immediately but I've seen within about 5 hours of reporting them.
I can't respond to end game stuff. I suppose it's like any mmo, you have to have the drive and desire to do what there is to do and in some cases make your own fun.

now what about like server status and subscriptions? like i remember some mmos dying fast but i really hope it wasnt Aion and I doubt it but i just saw the servers and they all say reccomended when before there were statuses. Im really pushing for Aion and at launch i really didn't have a thing for the community and I thought the gold spammers were destroying the game, but i'm glad that NC soft tackled the issue (in inventive ways too). And my server before was Israphel btw. Also in regards to endgame I mean pvp, etc. because I know in lotro how that...lacks to a degree and it would be nice for incective to pvp and things like that.
I just recently rerolled a couple nights ago, after taking a month off. I was astounded after hearing about all the people who quit and all the spamming, I leveled a priest through to becoming a chanter, I saw tons of people running around, nothing like launch day, but there were a lot of people around. I made a friend with someone leveling and got along pretty well. I reported 2 bots, but saw absolutely no spam.
I'd say the game is still very liveley and continuing to get better.
MMOs played: Horizons, Auto Assault, Ryzom, EVE, WAR, WoW, EQ2, LotRO, GW, DAoC, Aion, Requiem, Atlantica, DDO, Allods, Earth Eternal, Fallen Earth, Rift
Willing to try anything new
The community so far has been exceptionally good. When I picked the game up last week, I expected something worse than 4chan. But everyone I've grouped with have been chill and I haven't met anyone who was rude/ninja'd/whatever. Granted, it might be serverside, but to me it's been good so far.
what about server population? it says recommended and usually that means a server isn't doing too hot but then again it might just be a thing to get people on them all lol
As I said I just started, but the start to mid-level areas are very populated, and you find people everywhere, not just in quest hubs. Not to sound like a fanboy, there's lots of things wrong with AION, but the population/community on my server has been really good.
Nah recommended doesn't mean low on population.
A recommended server ranges from having extremely low population to very high (yet not full), so judging the server population thanks to a "recommended" tag doesn't mean anything.
I can't comment on other servers, but Gorgos EU is a busy server. The community is good, and the server is brimming with players.
Gorgos is indeed busy but is extremely short on cleric's and templars at all level ranges on the Asmo side so expect to spend a lot of time in the solo grind.
Not to say decent community guys can't be found there as there are some decent Legions and non Legioned people but I have found Gorgos to be the worst community I have ever been a part of across any MMO (I never played WOW ifthats what your guaging it from), Im Asmo side and can safeley say without a doubt the community is immature scum.
I logged in yesterday to check on the game before my sub ran out.
It's definitely a lot better than the mess it was at release. The spam was 100% gone in chat and I only saw 2 private stores advertising gold. I didn't come across any botters in the low level areas (1-10). I still don't plan on continuing though; compared to a number of single players games I've recently picked up, the story is weak with little replayability. Rolling an alt gives no reason at all to re-read the quests because they don't change and there aren't enough for variety. Your choices don't influence lines, XP, or rewards.
My high level avatar is bored with grinding the same location over and over having ran out of new / interesting content. When NC does release the 1.6 patch I will come back to test the new areas though. The game has a lot of potential, I just don't see the reason to grind at in a repetitive state it until it has met some of that.
I have made both Asmodian and Elyos characters to try and experience all of the content. Since rerolling the same race presents no value add to entertainment.

Sums the game up very fairly I think.
Playing Darkfall EU1 Server
I just signed in/up to say this hurt to read. That is all.
This game will probably stick around for a while. Ncsoft will keep it alive as long as its making money if starts to get close to a money loser it will be gone. Aion does have advantage of the Korean Aion maybe subsidizing the NA and Euro versions. The game is polished, runs well, looks good, game mechanics function well I canceled because it was just flat out boring.
