Unfriendliest MMO community!

Or should I say, hardest MMO to find a party.

To those who wanna try AO, a warning: be prepared to solo EVERYTHING, this "MMO" community are too selfish to form quest/boss parties

No, the community is very friendly and helpful. There is a feature there called "long distance party" when party members are far from each other fighting in different locations. In that manner they gain additional experience and experience books. Thats why if you see a solitary player that does not mean that he is not in party. He may be in full party.  Thats why it may be difficult to find a party on a spot. Solution is joining a guild or making friends.

Edited: though I don't know what kind of new players join AO... Checking beginners list I very rarely meet decent nicknames, more and more often I see such masterpieces like xxxigonnapwnyou666xxx nuff said. So I can suspect low lvl community may be horrible.

First off, take into the fact there is nothing you need a party for until you reach Constantiople Battleifled which is level 90+.  For the few quests before that where it involves new mercenary quests like a witch or beast trainer, there are always people looking to party for it in Peers chat.

For those who haven't played AO yet, Peers chat channel allows you to communicate with everyone in the game, no matter where they are 2-3 levels from your own.

And as the other poster said, if you have a stupid name like his example, don't expect too many people to talk to you.

Unfortunately, if you're starting Atlantica now, you must be prepared to solo until level 90+.

    The three main reasons are:
    - The game is more than 1 year old, and low level players are "rare" ;
    - Leveling by itself is pretty fast until 95 ;
    - Low level peer chat is so infested by gold sellers that many players cut it off.

After that, if you're in a guild, you should be able to participate guild/ind dungeons in parties.

Huh?! Are you sure of what you are saying?! Maybe muwing is right. Maybe you are just starting since you haven't heard of the term LDP or Long Distance Party. Long Distance Party is always available just look for it in peer chat. I love LDP since it boost my lowest leveled merc. :D

That sounds like an absolute retarded idea, how can you call it a party, when you are not in a party?Just because some UI says you are in a party,if you are not playing together ,you are not in a party,I cannot believe the low grade ideas ,developers come up with to bribe players with cheap bonuses or cheap xp.

This one dumb idea  alone is enough of a reason to stay away from that game.

To say that LDP's are a "retarded" idea and using that as a reason to stay away from the game is a retarded statement in itself. Its NOT a ground-breaking feature that that HAS to be used...just like partying, you can if you want but its not required. Besides, atlantica isnt the only MMO to do this.

    Wise up!

Like others said there's an LDP, all you have to do is to invite a party, if your don't have friends you can check out your Peers and once the names of the players has been appered you can just click and invite them... isn't that hard? I do that when I was low level,,,, if they don't want a party or they already have a party they just refuse your request, but once they approved it then Bwalah! you alread have a party.. only 2 persons to invite.

Aww, Wizardry, that was a bit fast.
Actually Atlantica has a very interesting gameplay and group/guild system.
Think of a mix of "Heroes of Might&Magic" and Final Fantasy. Where you control upto 8 mercenaries. Now imagine a group of three players.

I myself have rants with this game; weak client, engine, gfx, overpriced cash shop.
But community, innovation, economy are neat from what I have seen.

Again why in the hell would you even play an MMO if all you want to do is solo? If I want to solo I'l play Dragon Age or some other single player game Sheesh!

  • lm8darklm8dark Member Posts: 281

Ummm. then go play a different game. Why start a flame war here? I just don't get it...

With regards to AO.. The LDP system is not retarded... It's actually a great idea. You can still party together, but if you want to solo... you can just LDP and get additional exp for it.

Not knowing the game does not make the game stupid, just shows how intellegent the one who comment is.

I know how to slove his problem,.,, if you don't want an LDP... why not try to Bewitched? use bewitching scroll to party with monster even if your in solo.... the only prob is you can talk with your bewitched..ahahahaha

the community is very friendly, but indeed its hard to find a party. then again you dont really need one till 90+. i got loads of cash offered to me by complete strangers who didnt want anything in return, random ppl offering me to be my mentor and offering me free skill upgrades.. i got invited in a new guild which was nice and all, but when i didnt play for like 4 days in a row i was kicked (or the guidleader took off with the money, im not sure lol)

all in all the game is nice, community is great for a f2p game, and it was refreshing at first (with the turnbased combat) but eventually it lost its charm/freshness and grew into just another grind game. not a bad game, but not great either.

  • lm8darklm8dark Member Posts: 281

Well it only becomes a grind after 95+. For me that's way better than other f2p mmos that start the grind at 30+.

For the community. Of all the games I played, this one has the best community. Maybe a little hard to look for a party. But not that impossible. Yeah just use bewitch... That will suit you since I think that once your in a party, you'll just QQ to them. lol

  • MuwingMuwing Member Posts: 14

About the "friendly" aspect, I had the same feeling when I started the game, but realized later it was pretty artificial.
Indeed, the large majority of players who give gifts and "offer" to be a mentor don't do it because they are friendly, but to obtain some rewards (quests, titles, experience points, mentor points...).

The game provides very good mechanisms to encourage sharing, but cannot change human nature.

Personally, I never felt like Atlantica (USA) had a very good/bad community.
It's much warmer than usual grindfest F2P (at least in-game, official forums look hard), but far behind "old-school" RPG (as Ultima Online).
    Obviously, it's a subjective opinion :)

lol muwing... In game I have no problems whatsoever. but yeah in the forums... it's a scary place there. be careful with what you ask in there.

  • MyreanMyrean Member Posts: 186

Of course no one wants to be alone all the time... I mean you have to interact then you can have your friend how about chatting first in the Peer chat? you can start finding friends there and as time goes by you can invite them to party and complete a specific quest... Just be friendly and talkative in peer chat and they might recognize you ^^

  • reimarureimaru Member Posts: 228

i have no problems with the community so far, and take that to pve type of gamer

during my lowbie days, i managed to get some new friends at the same level and tend to form a party to levgel our avatars

and yeah there are some who are kind of a retard in the game, but they are not that common

either you weren't that lucky getting some people to interact or it's just not your type to play mmos
