Hello guys,
I was wondering if any of you have a clue about if MMOs like all of those we have in this site, will be running for Next Generation consoloes like Xbox2 or PS3.
Have you heard something related to it? Have any info on that? please post it here.
Pasho.

I for one would like to see it.
I don't think it will happen though. It has to do with the different types of input(ie. keyboard/mouse vs controller).
Having voice on xbox live rocks, so that would be great to have in an mmo.
yes there will be mmo's running on the Xbox 2 and PS3. It will require some UI reconstruction for the controller. It may also be used with the keyboard controllers already out for these systems. WASD controls should be able to be converted to a controller set up rather easily. They can set keys to attack, pick up, and what not. They are already doing it with Final Fantasy XI.
The downside is I am pretty sure the initial cost of those systems will be in the $400-$500 range.
There all ready are MMORPG's for consoles.
Doesn't FF and EQ have console versions that are mmo's?
I don't own XBox or PS2, nevere could see the appeal, I mean, if I have a computer that does that, why should I get a console that only "sorta" does that? /shrug

My dog barks some. Mentally you picture my dog, but I have not told you the type of dog which I have. Perhaps you even picture Toto, from "The Wizard of Oz." But I warn you, my dog is always with me.
There is EverQuest Online Adventures for PS2. There has also been talk just a week or so ago by the head of the company that was making it that True Fantasy live Online is still being developed, although he would not confirm if it would still appear on the Xbox. There has also been quite a bit of talk by Sigil that Vanguard may appear on one of the consoles as well.

I disagree, it would be a good thing for consoles and PC's to share the same servers in future games. It brings the genre to people who might otherwise not have access to it. It won't make a PC less useful, it would be just as useful to gaming as it is today. Your comparing things that have no relation to each other.
Well the Xbox had a built-in Harddrive, it had a Network card, yet NO ONE bothered making any MMORPGs (Except Phantasy Star Online, which apperantly is dead now) on it! While Playstation 2 got Final Fantasy XI and Everquest Adventures, and FFXI you had to pay extra to buy the Harddrive. What the hell??!!
Xbox 2 is still getting a Harddrive, and PS3 I just didn't read up on it cause I don't care, but if it does, it could be possible.
But yes, you need a Keyboard, and maybe a Mouse, that's why companies make MMORPGs on PC. Cause for consoles, not only do you have to pay the extra fee for the online server such as Xbox Live, but you also gotta pay for a highspeed internet connection, not dial-up, plus the monthly fee for the MMORPG. I think that's why companies did not bother making many MMORPGs on consoles, it costs too much and there isn't much of a market for it.

Stealth - Ambush - Hemorrhage - Sinister Strike x2 - Cold Blood - Eviscerate - Vanish - Preparation - Cold Blood - Ambush - ... you're dead! :P

But how can a console player ever hope to "compete" with pc player, unless they use the same input devices, aka keyboard and mouse. Although a MMO is not a FPS, I don't see myselve playing either with a controller. And I don't see myselve with a keyboard and mouse in front of my tv...
Then there is the problem of updated graphics. Most MMO's update their graphics at some point in their lifecycle. Are consoles guaranteed to be able to run it after such an update?
I would hate it if a MMO would be designed to be able to run on a console as we know them now. But who knows, maybe the next gen of consoles will be designed somewhat like shuttle pc's: small, upgradable and with keyboard and mouse (but then it would be just a pc, wouldn't it)...
Three Versions Of Xbox 2?
Some interesting reports regarding Microsoft have surfaced today, suggesting that three versions of the Xbox's successor will see a market release. Called Xbox Next and Xbox Next HD, the first unit will ship without a hard drive and probably for a lower price than the second version, which obviously will have a hard drive (if this information proves correct at all).
Both versions are slated for an autumn 2005 release, while the third version - Xbox Next PC - is slated for shipment in autumn 2006, a year later. Apparently the idea is to push the Xbox's successor out before Sony's PlayStation 3, while also lessening the PS3 launch's importance by releasing the PC version around the same time (unfortunately "earlier" doesn't always mean "better" in retail - remember the Dreamcast?)
The PC version itself will serve as an "entry-level PC that runs Windows and all standard PC software," according to the Inquirer's article. It will also include a wireless keyboard/mouse/controller and a CD burner, and is designed to function best when connected to an HDTV or very large PC monitor. Supposedly, it will also be able to play most PC games though I wonder if (legal) modifications to the unit could be made to keep it up-to-date with PCs, which have the processor edge in comparison to consoles.
Those are the rumors, I've been trying to follow both Xenon and ps3, ps3 has rumors of multiple versions as well, the highest priced of theirs according to rumors or what not will be like $600.
Yes....I have been doing some research on that and I think that is one of the main goals of these next generation consoloes.
I read that they were not doing yet because of a graphics issue (PC has more resolution capacity than consoles) and because of the required controls involved in a MMO. But can u imagine EQ and EQ2 running on PS3? That would be awesome.....and that would probably expand the base of customers for those consoles. Some one of you were saying that the price for those consoles will be like $500 or so..right? Well...that is waaayy better than the price you have to pay to have a decent PC in which you can run a MMO. Right? From a MMO point of view, I think people will be more interested in buying a console to access a game than buying a computer...
Btw, i mentioned Eq and Eq2 on PS3 because it is the SONY playstation and SOE (Sony online entertainment), but that would automatically include all the SOE games: SWG, Planetside, etc, etc.
Also i dont think that will kill the PC market; games like WoW (or any other publisher) may choose not to loose any rights on the franchise over consoles licensing (or something like that). and will be only using PC as they platform. If that's the case, u will still be able to buy it for your PC.
But talking about consoles...can u imagine what XBOX2 can come up with?? I know they already have (almost complete) a game for Xbox2 named "Oblivion" or something like that...which is pretty much like any other MMO out there now....with a huge difference... they created an AI so effective that chars get old in time, even NPCs...and they (the NPCs) have to live too and that implies they have to eat, get money etc, etc...and they developed a whole system for that....ie. if a NPC is hungry and has no money to buy food, he can go stright to you and attack you just to steal some!!! That is something that NONE MMO has right now...not even the ones in development stage (that I am aware of)...see what i am talking about?
Can u imagine living in the world of Halo?? Or .... wow....only thinking the possibilities takes my air out.
The graphics issue has been solved already and with new controls or optional controls the second thing is solved too.
I think that is a good option!!! It is something that will be bringing some good stuff to the genre and will improve the quality of the games.
Please guys...if you find any other info on the topic, please post it here. I bet they will be reading this thread.
Pasho.
The reason MMOs over console have been so slow in popularity is fairly obvious. Most people get a PC in order to have internet access...the ability to play games is usually secondary (or tertiary, etc). Likewise, people ONLY buy console systems to play games. The only way MMOs over console is going to find a mainstream niche is to offer internet browsing/chatting/downloading; in other words, they'll need to be PCs.
From what people are posting, this is exactly what they're doing with the next-gen consoles; they pretty much *have* to. I can already see the day coming where I have to troubleshoot virus/spyware/hardware problems for my friend's and family's CONSOLE systems...like I don't spend enough time on their PCs already...
/cry
Sorry guys for posting again after my own post, but some of you are typing things very fast..while i type mine there were already other 10 posts more!! Good.
Just want to quote Madman>>>

Excelent post man , Just want to ask....where did u get that from? could you please paste a Link to it?

Final Fantasy is on PS2. True Fantasy Online was supposed to come out for the XBOX until it was cancelled. It might be coming back.
There will be some MMORPG for the next gen consoles, but not many. The requirements on PC in order to play MMORPG keeps increasing each year. So I am sure there will be some games that will be built for them or adapted I would not expect wide spread mmorpg to be for consules.
I do not care about Xbox. My advice is sticking with computers. Computers can do so much more and Xbox is just american junk. That phantasy star online game just makes me sick. That ccrapy Xbox game callled phantasy star online is only trying to copy great games such as final fantasy xi. Japanese put better work into all their products that involve electroics. there is sometimes errors but japanese electronice are the best --Japan
the part about FFXI and paying extra... that is well worth it in my opinion... i played both of those PS2 mmorpgs...
if you are sick of FFXI you didnt waist the money you spent. that external hard drive you just "waisted your money on" has enough memory for you to (illegally) put 4-5 games into it(using a specific CD that allows you to do this)(which is now off the market)
so you pretty much made a 200 dollar profit ifyou use all the memory... lol you didnt hear it from me
me- Mom... can you get me a game?
mom- you can have this instead you dirty basterd!

Oblivion=Elder Scrolls IV=next in series after Morrowind. It'll be basically a single player MMO. Don't even contemplate a "world of halo" it's just not gonna happen. Microsoft is about making money using SURE bets, and the best example is how they shed the AC series of games as it didn't make them the money they expected. In any case, since so little is known about the TRUE specs of the consoles (everything at this point is just about HDs being included or not), it's unknown if MMOs will truely make the jump to consoles. EQOA was an attempt at grabing console gamers for an MMO, but was horribly planned out, and got boring real quick. Not to mention their billing system blew. FFXI however did a fantastic job at keeping both console AND ps2 players glued to their chair/couch by giving a solid game, INTERCOMPATIBILITY as well as solid controls for the ps2. The only downfall I can think about going to consoles is charging for expansions. They should just absorb the cost, or include it in their monthly fee, so players (especially console players who are notoriously cheap AND slow to jump to upgrade things) can just download updates.
