Runes of Magic does Suck

KorgborgKorgborg Member UncommonPosts: 116

Lame game. Period.

Play ffxi, guild wars... even WOW but not this piece of junk.

If you cut it too short you can always nail a piece on the end.

If you cut it too long then what the hell are you gonna do?

I like Runes of Magic better than Fallen Earth. Which surprised me. A solid free to play game IMO.

The interface sucks!!   I downloaded this game for over 4 hours...  and when i sign in I have to click the "ok" button four times...  Then the accept the terms of agreement everytime I load the game... FOUR TIMES.... Everytime I want to click on an NPC FOUR TIMES...   Oh I know it's my computer right?  Why is it ONLY this game then and not the other 12 that I play?

Always a pleasure... If you know me you know what this means.

@Korgborg - so did you join just to bag on Runes of Magic without giving any real info? It would be helpful to hear your critical assessment of the game so your opinion has some facts for others to make a judgement from. I am still playing the game and enjoying it a lot because of the dual class system (I can be a tank and a caster depending on my mood). The download is pretty huge and hopefully that is something that will be addressed soon so more people can try it out and we can get more people to play with. The game has ample quests to keep you bust and all of the content is accessible with enough time. Crafting was just overhauled and is a lot more fun than before since we can create items that are higher powered than before. The armor and weapon upgrading system with jewels and hammers is awesome. It's worth trying!

Making the download would shorter by using something like Turbine would be nice.  To those who say play WoW or FE and that this is junk I say  ITS FREE!!!  So if you dont like it uninstall and put some info on the site other than "It sucks".

I like the graphics and the strategy/tactics gameplay is fun.  I always love those types of SRPGs on my PS2

edit: It's great to see a good one like Atlantica as an MMO

Yes the interface leaves a lot to be desired. You are not the only one who thinks that it "sucks".

Even WoW has an streaming trial client, no need for 4 hour downloads.

"@Korgborg - so did you join just to bag on Runes of Magic without giving any real info? "

No.  Also didn't join to listen to RoM fanbois. Do you work for Runewaker?

Oh, almost forgot, the download is too large and the interface sucks.

GW has lots of quests to keep me "bust" also, and GW doesn't suck.

DDO has lots of quests and doesn't suck.

    @ giantsquid

"What free to play games to you like more than Runes of Magic?"

Well even though there is an initial purchase Guild Wars qualifies as F2P and it rocks.

DDO, though instanced like GW, also rocks and is F2P.

Both GW and DDO have a reasonable download, balanced gameplay, nice spells/combat, decent graphics and are fun to play.

    @Warjin

"It's Free? what do u want?.. For free It's as good as It gets"

I don't really agree. RoM is only one F2P and far from the best.

If it is an argument you want(seems like people love to argue)

I would note that Guild Wars does force an initial payment on you, and DDO started out as a subscription based game.

    I agree with you though.

As for any other game that is free-to-play, I haven't heard anyone that like any other better than RoM yet.

I'd have to say, that's a pretty awesome run for Runes of Magic then.

Frogster announced a streaming downloader a while back. So it's coming. The interface is a basic default interface. It is more customizable than WoW or any other MMOs. You can do anything with it. Here's a video of mine.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NW4NDs0SYS4

You can do anything you'd possibly want, with the interface. I haven't found any limits yet.

So you say plenty of f2p better than RoM, does that include what you said earlier about DDO and GW being your answer? If there's more, please say them.

Do you consider people who like RoM, to be RoM fanboi? is that the only requirement, then I am and proud of the No. 1 F2P in the world.

Look at any and all MMO/gaming sites, I think DDO(which was originally a sub game that had the sub game type funding behind it originally) is the only one that sites rate higher than RoM, in the f2p category.

I love being a RoM fanboi, by the way:)

(P.S.) It helps to keep people from yelling if you separate your opinions from facts)

I guess people do love to argue, quite obviously even you!

"As for any other game that is free-to-play, I haven't heard anyone that like any other better than RoM yet."

Other than GW and DDO right?  How many do you need?

I don't know about you but with an average time invesment of 2-4 hr/ day/game  I really don't have time for an additional  F2P game.  I'll just stick with the best.

"I would note that Guild Wars does force an initial payment on you"

    *  Ahem  >>>>      "Well even though there is an initial purchase Guild Wars qualifies as F2P and it rocks."

    Guild Wars *IS* F2P.

By the way you are completely entitled to hold the *opinion*  that RoM is the "No. 1 F2P in the world."

I am glad that at least *you* are able to separate opinion from fact.

Again GW and DDO are F2P.

"Do you consider people who like RoM, to be RoM fanboi?"

Absolutely not. To be a fanboi you'd have to ignore RoM's faults, fail to qualify your opinions,  insist your game is the best even when it is not and troll the forums attacking anyone who even suggests your game is less than the best.

You are most certainly not doing that, are you?

BTW does "Runes of Magic Correspondent" mean "Employee"?

IMHO it does not compare with either GW or DDO.

Whatever game is the best in your opinion and  fits your  tastes by all means have fun with it.

In fact make sure you have fun with it since you'll most likely invest 500+ hours / year playing it.

That's why I'll stick with the best. That's why I won't be playing RoM.

I'll give you the win, but with more "last word" rhetoric :P

Most sites are calling DDO and GW "hybrid" business models.

Most MMOs have client problems depending on player.  I look at it more as an MMO problem rather than any specific game problem.  I had to download and reinstal DDO twice before I got mine working.  But I'm a persistent MMO player and usually don't mind putting up with a few hang-ups.

GW also forces you to pay for expansions and there's currently 3 of those.

DDO does look pretty good so far.  Personally I don't enjoy the game longterm.  It's nice to jump in and out of for quick casual playtimes for me.  It's an aweful lot of jumping in and out of instances, so It's nice to jump into one, but after that an end of play feeling sets in, and I log off until next time.

It also looks like it could be a lot of fun for roleplayers.

Guild Wars looks fun, but I haven't gotten 'round to it yet.

sorry just adding to the last bit:

No actually I write for free for MMORPG.com and I don't work for Frogster or Runewaker.

I also play over 30 MMORPGs.  I'm just crazy like that.  I love MMORPGs.

Ah but RoM endgame content isn't f2p as you need tiered up gear to have any success.

Due to the crappy transmutation system that keeps the WEAKEST stats instead of the strongest, you need to use purified stones instead of just normal mana stones.

To tier 1 item up to T7 takes 243 purified stones(1 T7 = 3 T6 = 9 T5= 27 T4 = 81 T3 & you 3 T7 for each item) & 243 pieces of equipment with good stats. At 49 diamonds per purified stone thats 11,907 diamonds just for the stones! For your full complement of 15 items that is 178,605 diamonds. At the current price of 3,000 diamonds for $147.29 that is almost $8,770 !

For a "F2P" game!! Dont even think about a T8 weapon!! thats 729 puri stones !!! Even with the double diamond offer & the occasional puri stone sell the best you can get it done to is ~$2,200 & that would have to spent at 1 time! try any of the L53+ bosses without tiered up equipment, insta-death.

Oh BTW, not a RoM hater as i play on siochan just when i geta  character to ~50(49-52) i just start a new character as the mid-high content (35-50) is pretty good & the lower level is very fun.

FFXI - great MMO, probably my favorite to date, but it's just too old now. That ship has sailed.

Guild Wars - About 2 months was all I could take of its monotonous game play, especially from its key feature, the PvP. Also I dare say an MMO without a persistent world doesn't exactly qualify it as an MMORPG, at least not in the same category as the other games mentioned.

WoW - like FFXI, it's starting to show its age and I can only stare at the cartoony theme for so long before I feel like I'm playing Grand Phantasia or some other kiddie game. There's a reason that WoW has a stigma of nothing but teenagers to it... that's their target audience.

I'm not going to make the claim that RoM is better (even though it is to me), but the fact that you go so far as to use those AAA titles as the comparison for RoM speaks volumes.

ArenaNet(the developer) actually doesn't call their own game (Guild Wars) an MMORPG.  They call it CORPG(Competitive Online Role Playing Game).

Apart from the endless debates that could go on. I think in light of recent events, and many awards that Runes of Magic has won, shows it to be a fantastic entry into the F2P field.

I have many, many other personal beliefs as well, that really shouldn't be started here based on my feelings around what I think is a false negative stigma about all F2P operations to begin with, and how those stigma's are overshadowing the great things many F2P games are accomplishing such as new innovative features, and improvements in many areas.

I think there are many areas of RoM that no one really takes note of, but are a major factor in why it's so popular and fun. Just to name one, I think any and every MMORPG out there should give you the option to fully customize armor, and change the look of your armor pieces and colors the way RoM does.

But I'll probably bow out of this thread, and wait for another one :P

I can give you some input, since i am VERY knowledgeable on the game.

NO CONTENT,that would be the biggest MOST important factor it is not?

EXTREMELY cash dependent game, that alone is a must to stay away from the game. The support is awful, takes them forever ,because the REAL support is in Taiwan and the GM's that handle the forums and the game are total idiots, and that is saying it mildly.

A perfect example of the GM's and how lame they are,yo uwill NEVER see any response to actual game problems, except"show me your DX diag",HOWEVER some kiss ass posts that he loves the BUNNY CHANGE event[totally childish lame event imo] and ALL the GM's show up to post how pleased they are that someone loves their events. So you never hear from them until you kiss their ass, real immature GM's and yes they are VERY quick to ban anyone that shows ANY negativity towards the game.No i have not been banned because i know how lame the GM's are,you cannot tell them anything that is a problem with the game, they will FABRICATE a reason to ban, again a very immature bunch of GM's.

Changing players into bunny rabbits  ! are you kidding me?a friggin joke, and they repeat the same events over and over, come find me in my house and figure out my secret password,oh yay such fun.

I'm mostly an FPS person so I play very little RPG (three years later and my main Silkroad toon was only lvl31). I tried WoW but don't play enough RPG to justify the monthly fee. I stopped playing Silkroad when the bots took it over.  Now I'm playing RoM and Atlantica, and I enjoy both. I love Atlantica's turn based combat and RoM's two class system.

RoM is the closest RPG to WoW that I've played...and it's free! I won't argue with that.

If you play 12 mmo's at the same time thats kinda sad to be fair...

Waiting for Guild Wars 2, SW:ToR and STO.
    Currently playing Guild Wars, LoTRO).
Played WoW, GW, CO, DDO, RoM, WAR, LoTRO, Allods (Beta) + Tons more that aren't even worth mentioning!

Oooh, looks like a close call between DDO and Rune of Magic for Best Free To Play MMO of 2009, with RoM slightly in the lead.
