High customization

nine56nine56 Member UncommonPosts: 208

I'm looking for a high-fantasy type MMO with either a large amount of classes to choose from or a high level of customization for each class. The problem I have with most MMOs is that everyone has played every class 10,000 times over. I want a game experience that I feel is unique to me.

I prefer P2P because the games just feel more polished, by F2P suggestions are welcome as well. I like good crafting systems as well, although this is not a priority. LotRO had a good feel to it (played 35 levels as a runekeeper), but there was absolutely no significant customization to the very few classes you could be.

I've just started playing Vanguard and DDO. I've just finished playing EQ2, although I might go back to it eventually. ANY suggestions are welcome, please feel free to chime in.

Spellborn is free but awesome game. The character customisation is fine but nobody has done everything 10,000times because it does have very few members (a bit more than Vanguard maybe,) But spellborn has only 2 servers.

I would suggest Earth Eternal. It is a f2p game that is in open beta.  There are only 4 classes but you are able to take skills from all of them.  You can make a rogue that cast spells.  The crafting is lame for the time, hopefully it will improve.

Yeah, and I almost forgot Saga of Ryzom. I've tries only trial but I have heard it has great class customization and you can customise the skills.

i would suggest you perfect world international. i was searching for a game with better costumisation for a long time but i couldn't find it. I tryed spellborn but perfect world have much better costumisation. There are 3 races, every race has 2 classes, means 6 diffrend classes. on 16. december there will be expansion with 1 more race=2 more classes :D really nice game, free to playxD

I know it's not high fantasy but you might want to give Champions Online a try. No class restrictions for any ability or spell and almost all of them can be customised to emanate from various parts of your body, ie palms, fists, chest head, even the colour of them can be altered to your preference.

It's not a massive game but there's enough there to keep people occupied for a couple of months, it's first major content update is due in the new year.

I'm not sure some of you know what I mean by high customization.

I enjoyed EQ2 because out of the 24 classes you could choose from, each had a significant AA system that allowed one to not just be any old wizard, but one that can cast at far ranges, or one with more utility, etc. The problem with EQ2's AA system is just that many of the plausible options are gimped.

I also enjoy Vanguard because of the variety of difference in each of the classes (I believe there are 15). The only gripe I have against Vanguard is it's clunky, unpolished feeling.

I've tried Ryzom and it was pretty fun - I might try it again. I think one problem I had was that I didn't get far enough into it to really experience it to the fullest. And while there was nice customization, a lot of aspects were under-described; I felt myself completely confused in crafting because of the sheer amount of resources there were.

I will probably try some of the games you all mentioned, but games with 4 or 6 classes don't cut it for me. I need at least 10, and preferably with some AA system or something that enables me to be unique among my class.

Kabaal, have you played it? I've been curious about it. What is the reasoning behind its population problem?

Yep i played it through open beta and then quite extensively for the first two months.

A lot of the negativity surrounding it at the beginning was to do with the sweeping changes they made right on release, nerfing xp from open beta to live without having content to fill in for the adjustment,  changes to all defenses, passive, auras and gear. The only part they actually got wrong was the changing the xp curve the way they did, slower is fine but only fine if the content is there to support it, no one plays a superhero game to have to grind. Another adjustment or two and filling in the holes sorted it out eventually.

It's a decent fun game for a month or two as it stands but lacks content to give it replayability. Hopefully that will change when the patch is added in the next month or so, but it's hard for them to keep people playing when they're doing exactly the same things to level on the second run through. My sub is active but i don't log in often anymore due to that.
