This game has the classic tank and healer?

Because if it does, you can kiss good bye to both classes. With the group bots, nobody will play a tank or a healer. It will be a game for just the DD.

So this is where the industry is heading, make the kids that just want to see who has the bigger damage number happy, there is a lot of them.

Alienate the rest.

Win.

I'm 14 and my favourite roles to play is tank or healer. dps just seems so repetitive to me. but i played wow's combat for 3 years so it might change. either way i think bio ware is a good company and will make this a succesful game.

Why in the world are people freaking out and starting rumors about "Henchmen"?  The game hasn't come out yet for one.  For a second point, BioWare (to my knowledge) has not said anything on the matter.

IF this does happen it isn't so bad, is better then the alternative which would be wait for someone to log on to run a freaken instance when your on a time limit.  Point being if people want to group with real players fine if others do not then they have another option.      i'm gonna be a healing tank that does lots of damage... i'm a one man army bitches

  • FdzzaiglFdzzaigl Member UncommonPosts: 2,433

There are tanks, classic ones? Dunno...

Half the heavy armour classes are ranged, healing is not required for the core game (+Sith don't even seem to have a real healer up until this point), AI actively seeks cover and tries to attack from range.

    Wouldn't call that classic.

Feel free to use my referral link for SW:TOR if you want to test out the game. You'll get some special unlocks!

Is this really a complaint? You want this game to be like every other game?

I can't believe how many ridiculous complaints this website has over the stupidest shit.

I have a winning lotto ticket I would like to share actually.

About the combat and the Healing and Tanking. In ToR it's impossible to spam heals, it's far from what you may witness or have played in WoW. Every class uses action points, using heals use action points. There are set skills that have to be used to regenerate action points.

Example. The Consular is not a typical MMO healer, he does not sit in the back. Instead BioWare has created a better healer one that has more purpose then spam "Heal rank1". You can pop heals but at the same time you have to make up for those action points by carrying out other specific abilities to regen your AP, say a saber strike or force slam etc.

For tanking. Some classes/builds will be better for it, however every class will end up soaking a good amount of damage.

In short: Everybody is a tank, everybody is a healer and everybody is DPS.

Edit; I'll remind you, this can change, but I'm fairly sure this is where BioWare is going to remain.

Dec 3rd hands on experience actually.

Another post of mine about the "instancing" ToR will us.

GW and SW:TOR are entirely different. ToR uses phasing, not load screens. The phasing is used in key locations such as buildings. If I enter a building do a quest and come back it may have changed meaning the building is phased, as soon as I exit the building I'm in the world with everybody else.

So I can confirm, you wont hit load screen after load screen.

The world is seamless, most of the buildings to have quests change.

Example of this. You do a quest you got from said building, after finishing you head back to turn it in, this time he is in a new location, you pick up the quest, you head out and do it, while coming back into the building before you can make it back to the quest giver a NPC approaches you and asks you for a big favor, this is your only chance to accept.

That actually happens with the SI class.

Another good one about DS/LS points.

Usually in ToR any thing you said (not just actions) could award points. If I told you to screw off I got DS points. In ToR these are only gained by your actual physical actions and not just words said. I like this way a bit better, seemed silly to be awarded DS points for telling a NPC off.

Nice intel, Greed.  I like how that sounds.  Makes the world seem more alive rather than just having NPCs hang around for you to talk to them.  Also, I think phasing will actually help the world seem larger.  Think of how it would be if there wasn't phasing...you'd have dozens of Jedi all packed together all the time (for instance).  Phasing should make it seem less crowded, which is largely good.  Dark Side/Light Side stuff sounds sensible too; actions are where it is at.  Interesting that you might be able to be a jerk (non-dark) Jedi though. They'll still have some things for large groups which is also nice (they haven't talked about the details of that yet, hopefully we'll get something in the first few months of the new year).

I don't suppose you got any feel for what group combat would be like...I'd like a nice, strong group dynamic ideally.  With phasing I'd guess that encounters would scale with the number of people in the party (which is nice), but did you get any insight into how the classes interact with each other?

Everybody was just given a set character, nobody was able to create one. Not to mention it was the only 1-10 levels of the game.

I really think people are going to play tanks and healer classes, but not necesarily in those roles... because the tank and heal classes are the Jedi/Sith.

And if you can't grab aggro and hold it?  If you could then you'd die because that would be doing too much damage in a group setting?  If you can sit back and spam heals?  The Tank/Healer/DPS roles of the Holy Trinity systems are something a game has to enable.  Most MMOs are designed around this mechanics, which governs how classes AND enemies are handled in terms of AI, hit points, abilities, damage dealt, etc.  You take those design considerations out of the picture and being a "tank" in the HT manner is impossible, as is being a "Healer" or a "DPS", because those roles are ridiculously overspecialized in a more "realistic" combat system.

Considering that the tank classes in this game have light sabers, and the healer(s) have force powers I don't think you'll have to worry too much about that OP. It's no secret everyone and their mom wants to be a jedi or a sith, and the most important roles are assigned to just those characters. They'll probably be some issues with healers trying to play like DDs, and tanks trying to play as DD, but we can't really tell that until more of the specifics are released. They may be able to do both without sacrificing the efficiency of either of the roles, but we'll have to just wait and see.

Trooper is considered one of the better tanks, Smuggler is considered one of the better healers. You can't spam heals in ToR actually the "healer" if you can call it that is constantly DPSing to regen those AP's. Without AP you can't heal. ToR is not a sit and spam one heal trinity game. Odds are there won't be one set MT and OT, seems everybody will be soaking damage.

You got all this info from the dec 3rd hands on? How much of the game did they actually let you play?

  • PalebanePalebane Member RarePosts: 4,011

I'll be rolling a healer first. Of course if it's difficult to group and find people to heal, I won't play it very long. But I highly doubt that will be the case.

Vault-Tec analysts have concluded that the odds of worldwide nuclear armaggeddon this decade are 17,143,762... to 1.

I dont mind what kind of mechanic it will use. What I want, and I know thats what ill get, is a game based on story, with loads of conversations with multiple choices of answers. Lots of stats to check, factions, and no endgame for items and raids.

This is a Bioware game, and I cant wait for it =)))

Half of that was actually released in Nov.,  people are just not following and/or are ignoring the information. The AP regen and how it worked was shared when the embargo was lifted.  The most accurate explanation of what went on at the Nov event can be found here and the smuggler tree can be found here

"I" have not played I have only talked to people that have. To answer your question people got to play the SI from 1-10 and experience some of the story/quests on Korriban.

People not interested in story can avoid story stats while those that are can increase them. Examples being cunning and persuade. These stats will lead to a more in-depth story and open far more conversations. The current stats are place holders but there is seems to be quite a few.

There's also the fact the game doesn't have tanks or healers, so his entire post rests on a false premise.

I certainly hope the customization mention leads to hybridization of characters. If BioWare pulls this off (a difficult task, I'm sure) then I don't think I'll ever put this game down.

The possibilities would be damn-near limitless, though that is a bit of an overexaggeration.

Thanks for the info, bro. As always, good stuff.
