Just a couple of questions

I have been very critical of Aventurine in the past. Not the game just the people behind it. However after reading the latest posts, it seems the game has improved and my friends and I are thinking of signing up.

We plan on being pirates in the true sense of the meaning. We don't want to join a clan or start one up. We will work together to meet our needs, but it is every man for him/herself otherwise. So with that said we have a few questions:

1) Can a group of say 5-10 players non - clanned affect a player city? Could we Tear down the walls, buildings etc. If we were lucky enough to get the time to do it? Also would we be able to destroy the clan stone? You know really pillage and plunder the city?

2) Could we get involved in a war and take on both sides, to cause more conflict and strife?

3) If we join and can get a ship, is there Ramming allowed?

4) For player skills did they add any type of piercing/stabbing skills, or is it still just the side to side swing, and the over the head swing?

5) Is there now true jousting? Not just swing your weapon while on a mount.

6) One personal question, I'm not big on bows and arrows. Are there other types of ranged weapons such as throwing knives, Stars, etc.?

7) Did Aventurine add any type of death penalty, besides full loot? Full loot is not enough for me and my friends.

I and my fellow friends look forward to your answers. I do hope that these things are in game. Especially the death penalty. That is a deal breaker. No penalty no play. Makes the game just a little to carebear for us. We would go to Mortal Online, But I for one don't like being in First person view all the time.

    3) If we join and can get a ship, is there Ramming allowed? Don't know if ramming causes damage.
    4) For player skills did they add any type of piercing/stabbing skills, or is it still just the side to side swing, and the over the head swing? Knives and polearms do piercing I believe as do arrows.
    5) Is there now true jousting? Not just swing your weapon while on a mount. Don't think there's jousting in game, mounted combat but no jousting.
    6) One personal question, I'm not big on bows and arrows. Are there other types of ranged weapons such as throwing knives, Stars, etc.? Yes, battle spikes for instance.
    7) Did Aventurine add any type of death penalty, besides full loot? Full loot is not enough for me and my friends. Just full loot and spawning at your bindstone naked with no health.

    Hope this helps.

You can always make your own death penalty if full loot isn't hardcore enough.  Everytime you die, delete your character and create a new one.

Thanks, But I'm not talking about Perma Death. Something a little less than that. Like loss of skills/abilities you have to regain again.

    1) yes

    2) yes

    3) not atm

    4) not really, you still have the normal attack that generally has the side-to side motion and the alternate attack that brings your weapon up and down ( for close quarters since there is FF) However; there are a few special attacks that have a "thrusting" animation, like the Pole arm power attack, but tbh, these are pretty hard to hit anything in pvp...the side to side default if the easiest except for maybe Whirlwind ( but that a specialized)

    5) no jousting as what you are looking for

    6) not really anything effective as the those you don't really like. Although I would love to see a throwing spear type weapon

    7) no, just full loot, i'd say that is enough but to each his own.

    Agricola1, Thanks for the response.

For the Piercing I'm talking about would be animations or actual skills where you can sneak up behind a person and stab them in the back or neck, etc.

    1. Depends on how many defenders the city has. If it's a small hamlet, maybe. A city of a larger clan, no chance.

    2. Yes.

    3. I'm not sure. Never been in sea battle.

    4. Same two swings: sideways and overhead.

    5. No jousting.

    6. Only other ranged weapon I know are the magic staves.

    7. Nothing other than full loot and the long run back if you want to retrieve your stuff.

Looks like the death penalty is going to be a deal breaker for you.

    Current: None

Tried: Lineage2, Dofus, EQ2, CoS, FE, UO, Wurm, Wakfu
Future: The Repopulation, ArcheAge, Black Desert, EQN

Hitting someone in the back cause them to take more damage, but there is no animation for cutting someones throat (that I've seen). DFO has very few animations and is quite spartan in that department.

Sounds like Darkfall is the closest thing you are going to find to what you want.

There are MANY great permadeath games but they are all FPS.

I don't see how a fantasy MMO where you have the ability to increase skills could possibly impliment permadeath. It seems to me that it would make the game's content extremely shallow. Not shallow in the sense that it would have no morals, but shallow in the sense that there would be very little depth. You would have to redo every skill you wanted to increase over and over... if the game had skills that is. Very repeditive, even more repeditive than usual.

If someone created this game that you are looking for I would love to play it for a few days. Just to see how they made it work. Would it be a FPS with magic and a sword?? I mean thats cool and all but I think I would get realy bored after a couple of weeks.

You need to use resources to mess with other peoples structures. Things like cannons and siege hammers  or ships are required to break other people's buildings and a new group of 5-10 players would be unable to get to this level right away. You also need to be organized (use ventrilo) in order to be successful or the other clan will just jump all of you. So all of you have to practice a lot of PVP and get used to the game first before thinking about doing this. You can do it, but I don't believe that most people can do it that early.
    2) Could we get involved in a war and take on both sides, to cause more conflict and strife?
Yes, just find out where sieges happen and just jump in and kill everyone. OR you can contact one side and ask if they would pay to hire you guys to fight as mercenaries.
    3) If we join and can get a ship, is there Ramming allowed?
    Ramming doesn't do damage.
    4) For player skills did they add any type of piercing/stabbing skills, or is it still just the side to side swing, and the over the head swing?
There are types of damages like piercing and bludgeoning but that animations for normal melee are side swing and vertical swing. Then there are the special skills each with a unique animation.
    5) Is there now true jousting? Not just swing your weapon while on a mount.
    No jousting; just mounted combat.
    6) One personal question, I'm not big on bows and arrows. Are there other types of ranged weapons such as throwing knives, Stars, etc.?
To correct a poster above me, battlespikes should be used for structure destruction (buildings/ ships/ etc) instead of n ormal PVP. It's just archery, I don't think there are any other NORMAL range weapons commonly used. There are city cannons, deployable cannons, ship cannons, battlespikes and other things for breaking cities or ships.
    7) Did Aventurine add any type of death penalty, besides full loot? Full loot is not enough for me and my friends.
What other type of penalty would you want? Stat loss?

You can, but it'll be very hard for a few players to effectively raid a city where there will be 20+ people at all times usually.  Without a clan and declaring a siege however you will not be able to destroy more than one building a day.. and by destroy I mean disable.  That and the clan stone isn't hittable unless the city is under siege and the stone is vulnerable.  You may want to make a small clan with your friends and do it that way, because at least then you guys have a shared bank you can all use.  Also it will take you guys awhile to get to the point where city raiding is a good idea, with new characters I'd avoid it.

    2) Could we get involved in a war and take on both sides, to cause more conflict and strife?

The simple answer is yes, the more complicated one is having to consider the actions you take having backfired on you. Now if you plan to do this without a clan you can get away with it to a point, because a lot of people are now forced into being red... so if you role Alfar you could always stay blue and pussy out to the people you piss off in towered cities.  If you have a clan, because of my response to question one... then you may just be war decked by everyone and have no safe place to stay.  Which sounds exciting, but stupid at the same time because then you really haven't got a place to craft without having to watch your back all the time.

I solo a lot and do fine, you need to be smart to do it but it is possible.  Even without maxed skills.

    3) If we join and can get a ship, is there Ramming allowed?

Ship you can get, but you'd need to build it in a player city with a shipyard.  Ramming I don't think so.

    4) For player skills did they add any type of piercing/stabbing skills, or is it still just the side to side swing, and the over the head swing?

There is only the Horizontal and Vertical Swings, this game is not complex in melee attacks like Age of Chivalry or Oblivion.  But You'll find the two swing types are more than enough to keep you engaged.  There are melee special attacks that look different, and they do make a stab type animation.

    5) Is there now true jousting? Not just swing your weapon while on a mount.

No true jousting since we get no lances... what would I pirate want from this anyways?  Anyways mounted combat persists of the following attacks.

Mount Lunge - forward attack made by mount causing 50 damage (knock back)

Mount Back Swing - Mount either kicks or swings tail causing damage... I forget how much but it's more than the forward lunge (knock back)

Forward Attack / Lean Attack - Swing 1-handed weapon causing damage based on weapon strength and skill in weapon used.  It also has a tiny knock back.

    6) One personal question, I'm not big on bows and arrows. Are there other types of ranged weapons such as throwing knives, Stars, etc.?

They have thrown weapons as a skill, so they could add these type of weapons in... however all this skill is used for is battlespikes.. which is just a form of siege weaponry and does not work in basic pvp.  You are stuck with arrows or magic for ranged attacks.

    7) Did Aventurine add any type of death penalty, besides full loot? Full loot is not enough for me and my friends.

No, and frankly once you start playing you'll agree full loot + loading in where you are bound is enough, because sometimes you'll spawn a world away from where you want or need to be and have to spend an houe plus just to get back to said location.  No stat loss, why? Because you'll die often... and if you sign up as a new player you'll likely die twice an hour.

Well thank you all for your answers. My friends have also been following the thread, and a couple have decided to give the game a try.  The rest of us will go on their recommendation.

    So thanks again, and enjoy.
