I would pay to play this game. But then I would expect content like the expansions to be provided for free.
Although Guild Wars, having removed most of the brainless grinding that must be lived with in other game worlds would probably have to change the game itself to go the monthy fee route. And imo that would be bad. I love it as it is.
I know I will be preordering every single expansion pack at the earliest possible date.
Leave the revenue model as it is. There are many of us who can afford, and don't mind, paying creative people to provide us with top notch entertainment.
Unfortunately all to often all those supposedly talented people get complacent when recieving monthly fees, and wind up leaving entire classes broken and unbalanced and leaving well know bugs in game, and focusing on things like placing books on shelves etc.
If Areanet is creating great content, I will HAPPILY pay for it.
But never again will I pay a company a monthly fee to accomplish nothing but silly window dressing and hope the endless grind keeps me addicted long enough to break even.
And Guild Wars is the game that has changed me in that regard.
if u work it out, a expansion pack will be released about every six months that cost about 50 dollars, which is really less than $10 a month but here are some factors that tip the favour against monthly fees:
1. u can buy the expansion whenever u want to. 2. the guild wars team have more incentive to creative new content /fix bugs etc to intice people to buy the expansion packs. meaning better content. 3. u dont need a credit card
4. if u dont play for a month or so, u dont have to pay for it. 5. guild wars is cool
i could understand the need for a monthly fee..just not such an extreme one..if GW had a fee of like $8 a month or around that it wouldnt stop me from playing...but games like WoW and EQ2 with 15$ a month...i mean i could use 15$ on somthing much more profitable.
One of the reasons why MMORPG's have fees is to prevent cheaters and hackers. Take a look at Diablo 2. It was one of the best-selling multiplayer rpgs but it went downhill with maphack, botters and code manipulators. To prevent hacks, the company (or whatever you call the makers) have to keep their game constantly updated which costs money.
Yeh but i don't think i would play it if it had a monthly fee cos i don't think its worth it to pay for a game everymonth but still this game rocks and if there is no monthly fee it shall be PLAYED!!!!
