An eye to 2010 what game or expansion pack are you looking forward to most ?

2010 looks to be an interersting year for mmo players . with several high profile games like star wars knights of the old republic and final fantasy schedualed for release as well as expansion pack for the likes of warcraft , age of conan and lord of the rings online . so who do you think will be the winners and losers next year ? also what do you think will happen to some of the struggling titles like warhammer ?

    Third Darkfall expansion.

I am really praying that the kotor pseudo MMO doesn't kill the industry in the same way WoW did.

EVE's because its free and actually contributes something to the experience of the game. Its always adding something new to the game and improving upon it whether its in the user interfaces or adding a new feature in the game to help enjoy a particular aspect of it even more (recently with experiences in null/low sec). They address their weak points and try to strengthen it and what they do is add to it, not take anything away.

Other games just increase a level cap and tell you to repeat the grind (or devise other ways to make you repeat the grind such as redesigning the two continents they already had rather than create a new one). Total marketing ploy and a way to keep players playing the game by encouraging people to start over from level 1 again (yes I'm looking at you Cataclysm). Not even the courtesy to even add a new class or two with some unique features for once. Plus, subscribers have to pay for that b.s. I can't wait for my family/friends to move on to something better and not full of exploitation (forced to buy expansions to "proceed" with the game since it revolves around end game content, horrible game design IMO as well).

That's a matter of opinion. I'm not interested even slightly in any of those. All the MMOs I was looking forward to are already out. No sandboxes on the immediate horizon, no oldschool deep MMOs.

Lets be honest most old school mmo's were far from deep. They only had tired ass mechanics to make the game seem more challenging that it really is. Everything seems better in the old days.

You may not be interested in those games. And I personally may not be looking to all of them from a future player perspective, but im sure be looking them in a market perspective.

Like the games in question or not those are games that will move the market and mobilize lots of people around them, and as a player of the MMORPG genre im interested to see the outcomes

I'm looking forward to City of Heroes: Going Rogue. It looks to be a solid experience in it's own right as well as a huge step forward for City of Heroes.

I will be honest, I am fairly certain that EQ and DAoC had more expansive well developed open worlds than most MMOs I have seen in the past 5 years. Pretty sure DAoC was a game with deep combat mechanics with a lot of customization, as well as balance between many spheres of playstyles, without just giving you a bunch of shallow mini games.

Things seem better in the old days because no one has made any good MMOs in the not old days.

Why do people limit them selves too mmorpgs?
Especially such Japanese ones, with pointy ass rainbow Armour, and unrealistically large weapons lol,  jrpg's seem so childish.

Play mature games, games that make you think, games that force you to make morale decisions  and intellectually boggling challenges.

For me there is no fun without challenge, Overcoming Insurmountable Odds is much more fun then putting on some Uber enchanted knights Armour and pawning mobs with nothing more then a simple click and a few hotkeys

    Mount & Blade : warband
    Supreme commander: 2

Stargate: worlds ? Startrek online? Starwars:the old republic? Who knows about these 3?

Assuming these come out in 2010.

    Guild Wars 2

    SW: TOR

    Mass Effect 2

That's about it for now although I'll probably pick up the AoC expansion as well. If Diablo 3 comes out in 2010 I'll definitely get that game too.

TOR!.....Cataclysm MAY bring me back to WoW. Redesigned starter areas might relieve the boredom of starting a new toon AGAIN. The only reason I am even considering a return is that all my RL friends still play WoW. They have yet to be swayed by any other MMO. Ce la vie.

    no oldschool deep MMOs.

    That's because they're bad.

I doubt any of the BIG budget MMOs ( SWTOR, HoT, FF14, Carbine's new game or Blizzard's new game ) will release in 2010.  2011 is the year we should be waiting for.  For hype 2010 will belong by itself to WoW and its expansion pack.  There is nothing else that will come out in 2010 that will be able to compete with that.

This is the likely scenario.  If they claim 2010, expect 2011.  So far, I haven't seen any interesting AAA MMOs on the beta horizon.  Just my opinion though.  Would lik to hear more about WoD and Schillings MMO though.  Other than that...

I personally want to see what they do with Jumpgate:  Evolution.  Slaying orcs, elves, dwarfs and the like is starting to wear on me.  I might look into Blade and Soul as well as Tera but not with any significant enthusiasm.  I've never been a big fan of Final Fantasy but depending on what happens when they break out their next one I might look into it if it gives me something nostalgic or new.  Much of the other stuff I don't really care for.

Cataclysm can cram it, Star Wars will have to provide me with a lot more information but the more I read about it the less likely I am to play it.  And like Tatum said, I'll just wait till 2011.  I figure by then all the new games that came out this year will have gotten over their growing pains and I might look into some of them.

No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-
