Level 40 War and never partied....

Hi y'all... as lame as this sounds, I have never partied and I have only been in one linkshell... that lasted a week.

I am already a level 40 warrior and have done minimal leveling of some subjobs, mainly monk and dancer. I'm sure it's really weird to be level 40 with no real exposure to the community, so I'd be a level 40 noob... but I like the game alot and would really like to be in a linkshell with peeps that are either really patient and helpful with new players or can hang with lower level players like me that can help with sub  leveling.  I'm on Midgard....  Also, I've been stuck on my rank 2-3 mission forever!

Seriously, would it be better for me to just do what I'm doing and wait for FFXIV?   The silence is deafening and even just to have people to ask advice of or talk to would really make it more enjoyable for me.

Thanks :)

Man, this game must be a hell of a lot different than back when I used to play. It was barely possible to get past level 15 on a warrior without a party. How did you manage to solo all the way to 40? If there are seriously ways to do it now, I might actually resub. I hated having to rely on a group for absolutely everything.

Lol, it is alot different, that much I can remember even though I never played long the first couple of times. The main thing I can say that makes the difference are the "training manuals" that float around just outsde the main cities and zone points.  They basically offer mini quests to kill X number of mobs and they reward you with experience, gil and "tabs" that you can use to buff yourself on the fly....  I use these a heck of alot and that is how I managed to get to level 40.  There are 5 different levels of assignments you can choose from, and you can repeat them as often as you like, but can only get a new assignment once every VD day.  I can crank these out easily now.

I heard the Mids server was pretty low in population.  Am I wrong on that?  That could be your problem.  I'm on Kujata and it seems to be slowing down a lot lately as well.  I fear that if I want to continue and get things done, I may have to change servers as well.

Yea, need to get some things done, well if you transferred to Kujata, I would help you unlock the ninja, get you past 2-3 and on to the airship pass.

For newer players, I would truly recommend either thief, red mage, or black mage to start.  The red mage is probably the best at soloing alot of things, especially missions and quests.  People also won't get too mad at you at your gear as a red mage as long as you cure, debuff, haste, refresh, etc without slowing the party down.  The red mage can probably solo all his AF quests at the appropriate level except AF3(the level 60 hat)

I personally started the monk 7 years ago lol and came out swinging a staff lol.  SOmeone corrected me on that pretty quickly.  I have been leveling red mage myself lately so I can do some things on my own.  Hard to get into parties though lately and I couldn't ever do a solo grind(at least not yet) when all I ever did in this game was group parties.

Wow man that must have been a hell lot of time to do solo even with the camp quests.

Not even 1 person did whisper you or random invited you for a group? I find it hard to believe in a group focused game like this one or maybe your in a low populated server.

This is some GREAT  info... thanks!!!  I have been thinking of transferring servers, as you are right in that the Mids server is very low.   I just assumed this was game wide, but if there is a healthy population elsewhere I'm ready to transfer!  I may take you up on that!   What is your name in game, and if  Kujata is slowing down, do u know what servers are still running a fairly healthy population?

To the other poster, I did get 2 whispers way back when... like leve 8-10 but the parties never materialized. If anyone else has whispered since then, I haven't noticed - and I read everything!!!  It hasn't been that bad, but it could have been faster and alot more fun with parties.

Ah I see, so it was thanks to those new quests that you were able to do it? I'm guessing it must have taken awhile if you're only able to do them once a day (I forgot how long a day is in the game though, heh).

As for servers, last I heard Asura was one of the most populated servers, and I think Bahamut was THE highest (although, I may be thinking of the wrong summon/server here lol, I tend to get them confused) - it may have been Ifrit. It was a server named after a summon, I know that much.

There's a really good FFXI forum you can go to about these inquiries and I'm sure you'll get way more responses there. Check this place out, it's a great place for all your FFXI questions - http://www.ffxionline.com/

Bahamut sounds very familiar in posts I've seen as far as a good population goes.  It took a small amount of time, but I'm sure I'd be higher if I hadn't tried my hand at chocobo raising. I didnt want to venture out alot due to the care schedule and also gardening lol.  One Vana'diel day is just under an hour, so you can crank pretty good if you're in the mood... and the new quests really help - this prob accounts for why I started getting a little to far in level without really knowing alot about what I'm doing or accomplishing (or attempting to)!

I've seen the site you've suggested and will go there for some info, but I think now that I can pay for a world transfer, it's in the cards. To me it's worth it due to the time I've invested and to see if I can stick it out and find some parties and/or linkshells!

    Thanks for the info!!!!

You most definatly want Shiva server, they broke records in aht treasures server battles.  Hope this helps, you can transfer all your characters for only one fee, is nice to have.  When you get max level join a dynamis that offers payback to all the ls members also, dont run with rge shells that keep all the currency of the runs.
