Most Anticipated MMO of 2010

StuckovStuckov Member UncommonPosts: 101

Massively.com has nominated FFXIV for "Most Nominated MMO of 2010" on a poll they are running.

I hope all of you visit the website and show everyone how dedicated the FFXI community is.

So far STO has the edge on us as their official website asks their members to go vote for them.

PS. had FFXI instead of FFXIV ( its a form of habit, long term FFXI player :P )

Almost every 2009 vote is ruling in favor of Aion.  Just another popularity contest.

Don't get me wrong, it has it's good points but I would hardly consider it best in crafting or the like.  Maybe best launch/visuals, not that it's saying much considering what released this year.

not really interested in the rest of the polls :P

    Just the last one.

Polls are always biased in some form or another, in some degree. Think about how many "casual" MMO players who play the F2P games on that list are going to visit that site in comparison to the more "core" MMO gamers who play the mainstream subscription based games. Now, think about how many people who are actually long-term Final Fantasy fans (and by extension, are very likely to play the game), a series with roots in actual console games will visit the site, compared to the amount of core PC MMO gamers. Add that to the fact that the core FFXI community, another group who have a very different niche than the mainstream MMO community and have very specific community sites that they traverse (and also by extension are very likely to play FFXIV) probably also won't visit massively.com, and you can see where the bias is.

Sorry for my constant parenthetical thoughts xD It sounded a lot better out loud than I imagine it is attempting to read my post, lol.

You might wanna edit your OP.

The game is called FINAL FANTASY XIV as in FOURTEEEEEEN , 14.

    Glad to help.

I care about your gaming 'problems' and teenage anxieties, just not today.

At 50% or so, yes, STO has a "slight edge". Would like to add that as someone else said, Aion really didnt have a lot of competition in 09.

Every new MMO is going to be voted as the biggest disappointment simply because 1) people over hype the new games too much and 2) the majority of the players who are playing now are selfish, don't understand how MMOs work, and feel like they are entitled to do whatever they want as they would in on offline game.

I can agree with your first point but not the second. Having to high of expectations is one thing but its a bit of a stretch to blame a games short comings on the ignorance and entitlement mentality  of the players. I would think more that western players expect a bit more than Aion produced.

All the same people did the vote somthing is wrong when they can say all these good things about the game but in the end count it as a disappointment so something was wrong with the game lol a question that was not asked perhaps?

I'd have to disagree, while people who know and love FF ( And rightly so) will have this as their most anticipated game of 2010, I'd have to give the overall most anticipated to SWTOR. Star Trek is going to fail i think, simply because it just doesn't have what final fantasy or star wars has. I mean, Star Wars+Bioware? That as big of a powerhouse combo as Blizzard+Warcraft ( I hate to compare...but for the sake of status symbol not game quality) With Square Enix+Final Fantasy being just about as big. But so far star wars is being much more promoted, much more talked about and its probably going to be coming out after FFxiv. I'll be playing both, believe me, FFXI is still my most memorable and favorite mmo experience, but SWTOR so far is really shaping up to be the kind of MMO that the mmo community is waiting for. Just my 2 cents.

I have to agree that SWTOR is probably much more anticipated than ffxiv. Bioware is hyping SW while SE isnt hyping FFXIV. Unless your a FF fan you probably wont hear a whole lot about ffxiv while everyone is going to hear about SWTOR. i wouldnt be surprised to see commercials on prime time tv for SWTOR like we did with dragon age.

I have no doubt that ffxiv will be the better of the two in the long run.

What I think is SWTOR will start out with a massive number of subs but will slowly drop after a few months. While ffxiv will start slower but gain subs over time.

Waiting for:EQ-Next, ArcheAge (not so much anymore)

SWTOR isn't on the list because they haven't made an official announcement that it will be released in 2010.

I would guess FF14 and SWTOR will both be the top 2 most anticipated MMOs for 2011.

  • tryklontryklon Member UncommonPosts: 1,370

According to this very site's community  FFXIV is 3rd, behind Guild Wars 2 and SW ToR

  • toddzetoddze Member UncommonPosts: 2,150

like sixpax said. Swtor does not have an estimate for a release date. Same with GW2. Until they get an announcement that they will release in 2010 FFXIV is the most anticipated MMO of 2010, its the only one of the 3 that has been said it will release in 2010.

In general yes SWTOR and GW2 are indeed more anticipated than ffxiv.
