If you like CoH, you'll probably like WoW, it follows the same general ideas (although WoW is a bit more complex than CoH). It is easy to log on for a few minutes kill somethings, or do some quests, then log off and still feel like you've accomplished something. It's a pretty straight forward game, and you level quickly. Easy to solo, but has some good instance places you need to group to do.
Its major downside is the community. It's the worse I've ever seen in an MMO, and I've played Lineage 2. There are the standard ignore commands and you're able to turn chat channels off, but when you can't stand 29 of the 30 people you meet, it makes playing the game rough.
it has the same fast pace (ok, not THAT fast) of CoH, but with gazillions more tactical strategies as all classess are packed full of abilities and powers, so much that most of the time you will fill in couple if not more bars just with combat abilities, not to speak of the buffs and defense that goes in a third one.
All the zones are made with incredible sense of art, all have loads of interesting places to visit and you have multiple choices of them even at low levels, some of the quests have special effects and things to see, plus they are really something. I felt really sad when i recovered the pendant for that Night Elf in Auberdine and he got a moment of sadness remembering his gone wife... then the wife ghost appear and they had a very touching conversation...
All in the game is screaming "polish!, polish!, Details!" it seems everything has been tought of. From the fact you get a small "mail" icon when you receive one, the "Track minerals/herbs/beasts" thing, the fact you get a new bar entirely for each Warrior stance/stealthed/cat form and so on, pets are easy to use and get a great interface as well.... i could go on for hours about it.
End of the line: WoW and CoH are my favorite games. if you like CoH you should have no problem in WoW as it is as easy to use and easy to start with (but the game is not "easy" in the sense without challenges, just the fact you have loads of abilities gives you tactical choices to make in a second, plus reflexes count when you have to use that bash ability to interrupt a caster in mid casting).
FFXI: i loved the artistic sense of the game, liked the world, the music, the graphics, even somehow the game itself. But it was really really really too much grind and too less storyline focus.

That hasn't been my experience, at least on my server. Yeah, there are a few jerks here and there, but I think I've ignored a total of 2 people. I guess each server's different. There do tend to be more young players on WoW, so you will get some of that immaturity.
The biggest problem with WoW right now is the continued server problems. It's not like you can never play, but server outages are far more frequent than they should be. If you do play, take my advice and join a server with a low population. You will have fewer perf. issues and the population will definitely catch up.

I agree, the community is really not as bad as some people are making it out to be. Most are helpful and quickly gather to raid the Alliance. Had alot of fun yesterday for example as we held off the Alliance and then counter raided them, and it was all down to the communities co-operation.
As for the person wondering if he should get this game or not, if you were disappointed in beta then I guess this game isn't for you.

Well honestly, if I would be you, just buy the game. It won't hurt ya too much.
Tbh, WoW has the most pure & best game mechanics I've ever seen. All runs so smooth, no zoning loading times, drawing distance very nice and no pc laggin'.
The combat is quite easy to handle, Don't know about pvp yet but PvE is enjoyable, and quests feels like you are doin' something important. Not just the basic "plz kill omg lolz 6 batz i gifv j00 silver" style thing, what every mmorpg has. It has so many nice features, that I couldn't list all.
You notice instantly, when the game has made with LOVE.
but fine, if you like eternal pve beating in CoH, play it =P
As some have said, there are problem people in the community. But WOW has ways to deal with them. You can use the /ignore command if need be, although I seldom have had to do that. There are ninja looters, but there are ninja looters in any game where there is loot. Get them to turn on round robin looting. That is something I like on even with guildmates at times. Some people are pretty quick on the trigger to get their quest items and do not care if you have not yet gotten anything.
Having said that I would also say that if you did not like WOW in beta then probably you best stay away. Unless you are different now compared to how you were then. The game is still the same. If there was some minor aspect of the game you disliked, or was unfinished then you might consider purchasing WOW. However if you played during one of the stress tests I seriously doubt you are going to see anything new that will grab you.
WOW has had serious server problems. They have eliminated 90% of those problems recently though by getting rid of some of the boats. So the nightmare stories about server problems are not as accurate as they once were. Also most boards tend to get extremes posting on them. Either they hate life and everything or there is absolutely nothing wrong with whatever game it is they are playing. Life is somewhere in the middle. The servers still have a bit more work to be done to them. However things like the que are not like they once were. On Icecrown yesterday I heard of one person getting put in the que. They were #1 in line also.
HOLY CRAP SORRY TO BE OFF TOPIC BUT HAVENT SEEN KOL POST IN A LONG LONG TIME LOL JUST SURPRISED!!!! HI HI LOL
Can i have some of that shit your smoking ?

I've found the community to be awesome on the whole. Every MMO has its share of idiots, but I've found people in WoW to be helpful and friendly the vast majority of the time.
The only real problem right now is with PvP griefing (and PvE griefing of NPCs) and hopefully that'll be resolved when the honor system is implemented.
If you do what a lot of people seem to do (overreact and cry like a baby every time someone behaves in a way you don't like) then you'll probably hate the community, but if you can brush things off without getting hysterical and crumpling into the fetal position you should have a great time.
Dude, if you "can't stand 29 of the 30 people you meet", did you ever consider that the problem might be your attitude?
I agree with Koltrane.

I agree with Koltrane.
You cant understand why a person cant stand 29 out of 30 person you meet in WoW??? you must have never played the game on a pvp sever or you are one of the trouble makers/poorly behaved players.
I play on a PvP server, and apart from occasional griefing (which, as I said above, is a problem for now) the community has been excellent. The vast majority of people I meet are helpful and the community is far less stiff, boring and elitist than in other MMO's I've tried.
I repeat: If you can't stand 29 out of every 30 people you meet in a computer game, then it says a lot more about who you are than who they are.
That's pretty obvious.
For a totally unbias opinion about WoW, Firemagic is the person to speak too. He is logical, concise and to the point with tells it how it is.
In other words, WoW iZ Da B0mB!!!111one!!!11 EQ2 and other games iZ 4 l0z3Rz & SuXx0rz!!111one!!!11KTHX
Basically that is firemagic's world and if you join the WoW community will be surrounded by 1000s of other Firemagics.
You're in Firemagic's world now baby.
I've never made one single post using the garbled syntax you claim I use, so your point is invalid and hilarious in its clumsy ineptitude.
If you had a basic level of ability in post-2nd grade reading comprehension you'd have noted that I've criticized Blizzard's community reps and pointed out flaws in the game's current design on these forums. WoW isn't perfect, but right now it's nearest competitors aren't even competing.
Most people who have half a clue about what's great about computer games are either playing WoW or they're waiting for the next shipment to retail.
It seems like a fair proportion of those who aren't playing it are whining and crying about the community, either because they played the game and got their feelings hurt by another player (and we're talking about grown adults here who call themselves "mature"), or because they haven't played the game and they prefer not to form their own opinions anyway.
So it's acceptable for someone else to go around hitting mobs you targeted? I was fighting a mob and someone starts hitting it, fair enough a mistake. But after like the 10th time it gets a bit pissy. Even though the other person can't seem to release what a jerk they are being. Yeah I'm thick-skinned and can accept a few morons and noobs, just because the mob I was fighting dropped a few coins. There are locked encounters in EQ2 for a reason lol. Even the resources aren't locked, which is exactly the same as in EQ2 and look how many posts are on the official forum whinging about that.
Not saying the WoW community at large is churlish, there will always be a few twits, but the game mechanics almost encourages griefing to take place.
This has been discussed in another thread.
If you were the first person to hit (or "tap") a mob, you get all the XP and loot. Anyone who's not in your party that hits it will get zero XP and zero loot.
There is no kill-stealing in WoW, so that particular element of the game mechanics actually prevents griefing, and all without forcing you to be "locked" in an encounter.
If people seem to be intentionally hitting mobs that you started fighting, there is absolutely nothing in it for them to gain except for getting a feeling that they helped you.
WoW is a very fun game for a while, it has little staying power. You'll have a lot of fun for 2-3 months (nothing wrong with that) and then probably move on to something else because the content drops off in the late game and there isn't much else to do (tradeskills are an after thought for example).

If the game stays exactly the same as it is right now forever, then you're right; it'll only be fun for a few months. But back in good old reality, everyone knows many additions and changes are in the works.
The PvP system has no purpose as it is, but the honor system should rectify this (you'll gain access to exclusive weapons, armor sets, ranks, and titles by improving your honor rating).
Also, Battlegrounds will be implemented, which will provide another reason to level up your characters (something certain other MMO's simply fail to provide).
Additional end game content is still being developed and implemented (with some additions since launch and more pending), and then of course there'll be the expansions.

Maybe, but I was talking about now. As of now, it's pretty dull in the late levels as compared to the early levels, and this is a problem in a game where its easy to reach the late levels as compared with other games. I think Blizzard, by not really limiting character creation, wants to encourage players to create and play alt characters to high levels as well so that they have several high level characters by the time the higher level additional content comes along. I did that do a certain extent until my alt characters were reaching the same content as my main character and then that got boring as well.
I'll check back to see how things change when Battlegrounds come along. One thing that disturbs me about the plan for those is that they will be instanced so that the gains you make in them will not persist in the game world ... that kind of takes a lot of the fun out of taking over a town (as compared with DAoC for example). So I will stay tuned for further patches, expansions and the like, but as of now the game has about 2-3 months of content for most players -- hopefully that is added to soon, but I was referring to the game as it is now, and as I experienced it from release day.
I totally agree. I think they were forced by Vivendi to push the game out the door a few months early. I'm glad new stuff is on the horizon, but I'm also far from bored with the game as it is (I like to savor it while everyone else races).
The fact that the Battlegrounds will be instanced doesn't necessarily mean their results won't impact on the game world.
As far as I understand it, the instancing will be to remove the load from the actual world server, just as when you get on the deeprun tram you go into an instance but it's the same single instance for everyone on your realm.
There is the possibility that it's me, but I don't have the problem with EQ1, EQ2, Horizons, AC1, AC2, SWG, or the few beta's I've been in, so I'm forced to the conclusion that the problem is elsewhere.
Another thing, if I was the only one complaining about it, maybe it is just me, but besides server downtime, this is the biggest complaint is the community.
